Study of uptake of exercise following diagnosis

Hi all,
I am currently doing a dissertations at Exeter University to do with the uptake of, or increase in exercise following cancer diagnosis.
Some of you are more than likely to have heard of the inspirational story of Jane Tomlinson who, since being diagnosed with terminal cancer, has participated in marathons, cycling events and even the iron man.
Her story has made me keen to hear from more people about their new experiences with their bodies and exercise following a diagnosis such as cancer. I am interested to find out about how exercise is used as a coping strategy for people, bring ing them hope and confidence in themselves.
If anyone has any opinions or experiences they would be willing to share it would be wonderful.
Cheers

Me too. jeorf@yahoo.com
I'm a martial artist and, although I don't see myself increasing my training during treatment I will be testing for preliminary black belt as soon as treatments are done and then going into black belt training (probably testing May, 2007. -
Congrats on your black belt testing, Jorf. I'll be testing soon, too (two weeks before my exchange surgery), but I'm only a 6th kyu. What style do you train in?
I started karate while doing rads and fell in love with it (I was a track and field athlete since age 14 and still competed until two months before my diagnosis). So feel free to pm me, Hannah, if you need more info for your study. -
Hanna, you can Pm me too...another martial artist...started at 45 and have been going strong since...I was doing shotokan karate and now am doing White crane kung fu...as long as we are active healing goes much faster i think...
