Ha moment about my pets
Hello Ladies,
I've had cats and dogs my whole life. In the past 20 years or so, the vets have been recommending the insecticide Revolution. It's a topical "med" applied to the back of the neck and when it dries off the dust is spread throughout the house.
That time of year again. Let's see three cats X 6 doses per cat = 18 doses per year
Is anyone else concerned about the insecticides the vets prescribe ?

I meant a "Ha" moment, don't know why there's two "Ha" ....did not mean it to be a funny moment....damn Tamox brain, or is it the insecticide....darn !

Oh, my. Yes, I struggle with this one as well. My dog is due for his dosage, and my hubby will NEVER put it on him, so I end up giving him his dose with my rubber gloves on. I won't touch the dog for days afterwards (poor thing), nor will I allow the kids to touch him until he has been bathed.
Think of how bad it is for them, since it's being absorbed into their bloodstream!!
If we didn't have such an intense flea issue here in our yard in TX, I would try to avoid.
Sigh. Can't win for losing!!!

I know Marianna, I don't want my pets to have cancer ! One year, I neglected a bit and ended up with a flea infestation. I found out I was extremely allergic to their bites, a real miserable moment that was. I'm going to google, try to find something more natural, and will let you know if I come up with something

Hi again, there are natural products out there, for instance, found this one from a newsletter I get from Dr. Becker:
"Here are the natural Brazilian oils and ingredients found in Natural Flea & Tick Defense spray :
Lemongrass oil -When formulated into a spray for pets, promotes a shiny, healthy coat , and helps repel fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.
Cinnamon oil - A versatile essential oil widely used in the household. It is an effective environmentally-friendly ingredient that helps deter mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, and other pests from attacking your dog or cat.
Sesame oil - A rich, almost odorless oil derived from tiny sesame seeds. When combined with other essential oils it helps protect against pests and promotes the health of your pet's skin and coat.
Castor oil - Castor oil has been used for years by veterinarians. When combined with other oils, helps to repel a variety of pests.
Purified water - Only the purest water is used to help blend and properly balance the unique formula of essential oils.http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/natural-flea-and-tick-control.aspx
I had thought of some kind of lemon oil (which would be too harsh), but this sounds even better

there is nothing worse than fleas in your house. i adopted a kitten once, and had to have the whole place attended to professionally.

Holistic veterinarians should have natural products. Our furry family members get the same diseases we humans get, so we don’t to expose them to too many toxic chemicals either.
-
that pet incecticide is a killer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!they get cancer very fast from it. I'd add to natural oils eucalyptus oil, not sure if it's too strong or not. I don't have pets now beause the rules are undoable. the rabies shots cause drooling, what does that mean?
-
I know Abi
I've been neglecting this issue....you just gave me the idea to mix my own with the ingredients above and I'll add your excellent suggestion : eucalyptus oil. I don't know about the rabies' shots. I am not a big vaccine buff, they had their first shot, and that's it for me or rather them....Lol

Flea Control: Flea Control using Lavender Oil
Never use Teas Tree oil as suggested sometimes as this is poisonous if licked by cats or babies.
How to Make a Homemade Flea Trap
It may be the heat from the lamp that attracts more than the light, but probably the combination.

Thanks Joy, homemade flea trap humm interesting..wish I had known about that.
All these chemicals can't be good for us either. At least, in my town, there's a bylaw regulating the spraying of lawns with pesticides (which cats will carry into the house
