Onvacation, I have done the same. I map out a route in the house, or the hospital hallway or whatever that is a specific number of steps. Then I pace until I have done a decent amount of steps. It is not a bad way to pass the time.

Corky and Kim - thanks for the response - It at least got me thinking - we don't watch tv here - no cable just internet stuff but I got my DH to put the xbox in the sunroom..The kids got me Dance Revolution last year before the Big C.. I figure if I could bind myself up and use the creams the doc gave me, I could at least have music while I move my feet Wink.. I will be trying this after work and just take it slow.. I will let you know how it goes later.. I need lots of encouragement with this - it seems the gabapentin isn't helping with my weight loss...

You can do the dance revolution without bouncing maybe?  I think just getting up and moving helps.  Hope you feel better soon!

Feeling pretty motivated by my need for my third chemo course (8 weeks from now). Can't have it if I haven't successfully fought off the cummulative fatigue.  Got on my elliptical for an hour and set my target heart rate to above 130.  Tomorrow I'm walking with a friend for an hour.

Remember Marchers - our recurance rate is greatly reduced by exercise!  Susan Love talks about exercise releasing a chemical into the "stroma" (the cell enviroment)  that inhibits cancerous cells from reproducing.  My MO thinks "the stroma" is half the story as far as  stopping cancer from growing.

Thanks guys...a little more tired today; Day 3 of first Taxol.  The trick for me is to go the speed that allows me to continue walking the full hour.  For walking, the trick is to find a good friend that you enjoy and will go your speed.  On my elliptical, yesterday I watched the Jeff Lewis Interior Therapy show. I have to be careful to save my favorite recorded tv shows for the elliptical...it's so boring!

    We can do this!

Kam WOW - I didn't have chemo but I commend you for not giving up! You have the "GMA" Award from me... Lets keep eachother going!

For me its the first day binding myself in a sports bra (kinda painful but better than going braless LOL), then off to play Dance Revolution - beginner mode.  I went 30 minutes and my body feels like jello...but I did it Laughing. Note: I haven't been able to wear a bra since radiation.. My damage is right where the elastic lays.

    How is everyone else doing?

Gma- awesome!  I couldn't even keep up with that game before BC.

Kam- do you get motion sickness from the elliptical?  It seems exercise  tends to bring on the nausea for me, especially if it makes me feel like I am moving when I am not.

Did 60 minutes on stationary bike, plan on some sit ups later.  Stupid steroids have me eating everything in site, with a special craving for bad foods, even if I can't taste them!  Made a BLT for lunch, of course all it seemed I could taste was the slightly warm lettuce Undecided

Tellie - I didn't try to keep up but the first and second level was fairly easy to keep up with..

I make me a "everything but the kitchen sink soup"  with all the veggies that are good to keep BC away.. a little italian sausage or chicken, and some rice noodles.. Anytime I get hungry I have a bowl..

GMA - good idea about the soup!  I tend to only make it in the winter for some reason, but I guess there is no reason not to eat soup in the summer!  I think I will make some this weekend!

More exercise is better for getting through treatment and preventing recurrence, as I understand it. And less fat means leass estrogen production.

    Time to stop being obese.

I have decided to spend my summer regaining the health that I let decline over the last couple of years of work pressure.

I am recovering from 2 excisions now, and I will have rads in June.

My plan is walking, walking, walking. Oh, and walking the dog!

I look forward to supporting you all and gaining your support.

GMA - I go to PDX for my surgeons...I've gone through Roseburg, seems like 10 times since December.  I always stop at the Starbucks there!

Tellie - no motion sickness on the elliptical. I have moving handles.  Maybe that is the difference.  It's pretty stable (and boring).  Steroids just keep me awake at night...no increase in appetite.

akinto you'd think we'd lose weight during this BC ordeal...I've managed to lose a about 7 lbs on the scale, but 3.3 lbs of that was breast tissue, so not so much!

onvacation  You're so encouraging!!  Fortuneately we are having perfect walking weather in my parts....mid-60's today.  Got my hour in and then did some raking in the backyard. I'm no speed demon, but whatever I'm doing is helping me sleep better through the steroids, though still horrendously.

Kam i am dreading taking my steroids on Wednesday.  The first time it didn't really affect me, but this last time it kept me from sleeping!  I am hoping some walking/yoga will help with that and i can sleep better!

I'm giving up on hoping steroids won't affect me.  The best I can do is try to exercise those days, limit my cofee intake, and take them as early in the day as possible.  I don't get the buzz from steroids that some talk about...I get the insomnia with an incredible desire to sleep!

Hi Ladies.  I had a good workout today with weights.  However, I tried to run one measly mile afterward and I sucked.  I've never been a good runner but I could at least do a mile.  Now, I'm challenging myself to get that mile back in.

Onvacation:  You have more confidence than me.  But it's a personal challenge so I WILL get it soon.

I give everyone of you ladies Kudos for just dealing with everyday life.. I messed up my knee doing dance revolution (not real bad, just enough to drive me crazy all weekend) It feels better today. - I think I need a rubber mat to go underneath the pad maybe - I am going to try to go for a walk somewhere before it starts raining.

Wow, the gym!  Just the thought of driving to the gym makes me tired. Good luck.  I have been getting on my stationary bike.  Just 30 minutes here and there.  And I have been going for walks.  Every little bit helps.

You are right Telle - every little bit does help.  I walked Friday and Saturday, 1 hour and 1 hour 10 minutes, respectively.  It sooooo helps to have a walking partner who doesn't mind going "chemo-speed."  Having good weather is a plus too.  Today I need to clean my house..will see if I can discipline myself to get on my elliptical for an hour.  Maybe a double tall latte is in order!

Took my kids to the mall yesterday.  I think that might count for walking and light weight lifting.  "Mom, could you hold this?" Which of course turns into Mom carrying.  Actually they were pretty good about carrying the bags.  But man, by the end of the day my legs were tired!  I will say that trying on clothes right now is not so fun. Full length mirrors...bah!!! I am bald and chunky, that soft chunky too.  I just keep reminding myself it is only temporary.  After this is all done I will finally be able to buy some of those cute tops with the little spaghetti straps.  (I have always been top heavy).

Hope you all are having a good weekend!  Sun is finally out here, hope it stays.

    Corky

Where is everyone??  I took a couple of days off from doing anything...just not motivated.  Today I walked about an hour...should be my best day, day before second Taxol (dose dense).  This walk wiped me out!

Went to the dojo today, realized I need to start doing stuff that raises my heart rate.  I seem to get slightly dizzzy now went my heart rate rises.  Does anyone else notice that they can feel thier port more when the work out?  I am going to jump on the treadmill after my lunch settles.  Good luck with the taxol tomorrow Kam.
