day 9 after #2 tch day 3 of neupogen shots, 1 more tomorrow.
I had a slight fever in dr.s office. came home took a nap. got up took temp and called in, just picked up some cipro and some tylenol.
-
ladybug - did you get neulasta or neupogen? Just wanted to say nadir with TCH is usually days 7-10 so your white blood counts may be low...watch yourself for a fever and call the doc if it gets up over whatever they told you (my doc said over 101 or 100.5 for 1 hour, I think). I did not get a UTI but I thought I was getting one one night. Thankfully, not. Hate those!!!
-
Lisa...so sorry to hear that! I went on Cipro and developed severe tendon issues...BE CAREFUL and monitor yourself. Many times we don't have a choice and must take broad spectrum antibiotics, but it is good to be aware of significant side effects to watch for. I ended up on crutches after only 2 doses. Crazy, I had taken it before without incident. How high did your temp get? Thinking of you!
-
My daughter is graduating in June - I'm guessing I will be 2-3 weeks into my chemo (AC) then. I definitely want to be there.
-
vballmom- check your calendar now to see when the graduation is and when you are supposed to start chemo. You may be able to talk to your onco now to see if you can delay the start of chemo. Never hurts to ask.
I wanted to get done with my chemo in early August in hopes of feeling well enough to travel with my family in the fall when my son starts college in Boston. That's one of the reasons, I went forward with the start of my chemo rather than delay it for his high school graduation.
-
Dancetrancer- I started giving myself neupogen shots yesterday. I have had a headache today but other than that no real side effects yet.
I am also starting Cipro today too.
-
my temp was at the highest was 100.3, i just didnt want to wait and call after hours. so i set my self up for success. i am just going to hydrate and rest. sorry you had such an awful time with the cipro. i have taken it before, its been years though. everyones reaction to all medication will different. i am hoping for the best
-
I am hoping for the best for you, too Lisa! I hope you didn't think I was being negative. I took the Cipro, even knowing it had that potential side effect. The risk of febrile neutropenia was higher in my mind. It's all about weighing the pro's and con's and being aware so you can react appropriately if a problem does develop.

Indigo and Rose: My hair starting coming out in strands on day 14 (yesterday) and huge amounts this am when I washed my hair. I have a bald spot on my scalp. I cried. I am getting it shaved tomorrow and have purchased my wig; The hairdresser is going to cut it as well after she shears my scalp. A good place to get scarves is chemobeanies.com I got three in the mail today and they are so cute and easy to put on. I have to keep telling myself, in the big scheme of things, it's only temporary, but it's still hard.

HELP! I had my 2nd AC this afternoon with EMEND (oral 125 mg) and Decadron in pre-meds. I have since taken Compazine (per nurses recommendation) and ginger (1000mg) but still feeling VERY queasy! Any suggestions???
Thanks!
CC
-
Can they call in something else for you to try? Zofran? Phenergan? Sancuso patch?
-
I have Zofran - can I take it on top of Compazine (10mg)? And the Ibuprofen (600mg) and Excedrin (1000 mg) that I've taken for the headache.
Even if the doc called in something.., I don't thhink I could drive to pick it up.
-
Thanks, Leeza. I know it was hard seeing your hair go.
Ladybug, I've just gotten over a UTI. I never had one so I ended up calling an advice nurse in a panic lol. -
C-squared - I have no idea if you can take them all together. I would call your onc's after hours # or the pharmacist, maybe? I know how you feel about not being able to drive yourself to the pharmacy - been there...so sorry! Perhaps try nibbling on crackers until you talk to someone?
-
How about some ginger ale? I drank that when my SE's hit--- water just wasn't enough.
-
C-Squared, I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I hope their suggestions help if not I would call the after hour nurse line to see what they recommend. Huge hug
-
C squared - I would not take the zofran if you can help it b/c of the headache. If you don't mind the headache and would rather use another drug, you can use zofran, but it works the same way as emend, so may not help much. Some MOs use them together anyhow, from what I've seen on these message boards. Emend pills gave me a nasty headache, but IV didn't. If you have Ativan, I would take that, may help the headache and nausea.
Read through this thread and elsewhere for chemo and nausea. Tips include never letting your stomach get empty, using ginger or lemon or mint. I found just the smell of a mint tea bag or lemon wedge helped, and so did eating McDonald's French fries, oddly enough. Drink small amounts of whatever you can tolerate every few minutes to stay hydrated and keep the bad taste away.
If you feel like you've tried everything and still feel yucky, don't suffer all night, call your mo now, it's still early, and ask for advice, especially if you have someone who can run to the pharmacy for you. -
Ladybug, thanks my partner picked up some of that today for me. I spoke to my onc and he said so much of the meds I have been taking are contributing to the the Big C that I just have to be good and stay ontop of it, its been getting a little better the last day or two. I may be getting a UTI the doc called in a perscription for for it, WOOT more pills. I can't wait for my rads appointment tomorrow, its not over but two days off for the weekend seem like a dream.
-
I am 10 days post #2 AC+T. A SORE and fatigue are today's inconvenience. I am going to the free bc exercise and yoga classes at my hospital and am also going kayaking Sat (on flat water till i run out of steam). My first business trip is Sunday, an overnighter. My blood counts are great so everything is approved by my team. Its my good week so I am enjoying it. I learned exercise is the best thing for fatigue. In all it is 3 hrs +kayaking for the week. Shouldn't it be a nap?
-
C squared - I hope you are feeling better soon. I went for training today and they stressed don't wait to call them.
I got a big surprise at training today! Onc told me I'd be DD AC x 4 then 12 Taxol last time I saw her but today they said no.. TC x 6 every 3 weeks. Starting to wonder if anybody knows what they're doing over there but when I went for my 2nd opinion they said TC x 6 every 3 too and didnt' understand why primary Onc was doing the other so I guess in the end everything worked out? just adds to my high blood pressure! 160/110 today. ugghh!
-
Wow, Stacie, kayaking! I sure hope you have fun.

Isharvey......woooosahhhh wooosahhhh. Get that bp down!
Son made meatballs tonight. Couldn't taste them. That sucks!
We were sitting at the studio around 4:00 getting ready to go home. In walks a girl and her mom. Im here for my senior pictures. Oh crap! Totally forgot to write it in the book! Stupid chemo brain! The place was a wreck. Haha. We had to scramble around and clear a path.
I've been trying to decide if I should just shave my head now and get it over with. I don't want to wake up and have it be falling and them Im late for something because Im crying over my hair.
On another note, I think my daughter is trying to kill me. She's sending me pictures of puppies that are available for adoption! We just got the other puppy not even a month ago! Plus I have 2 hundred pound shephards! -
Isharvey- I am assuming you will be receiving the same chemo as me--- Taxotere/Cytoxan. Hopefully you will have minimal SE's. By the way, is your blood pressure always that high?
-
Sandik- Sorry you couldn't taste the meatballs..... it's weird, I still can taste things.... those doritos I ate earlier were really good and really bad for me... lol.
-
Looks like it Melrose! total surprise to me! my normal bp tends to be on the high side of normal but since my diagnosis I haven't had a reading in the normal range. This was the worst. I have a family history of high bp but I'm so reluctant to take drugs. that sounds strange coming from a person getting ready to start chemo I guess.
-
Sandik! your son makes meatballs!! I'll trade you kids? jk!
-
FYI- I am taking a high blood pressure medication and started taking it right before my mid March UMX. There is a history of high blood pressure in my family ( mom and brother). However, I decided that this journey is so stressful and the blood pressure issue is so easily resolved with a pill and diet so I asked to be put on a blood pressure medication. I understand your hesistancy to take blood pressure meds since I, like you, haven't been one for taking medications unless I absolutely needed to. It is one of those times that it is important for me to take the med so that is one less thing that I have to contend with.
-
Did you go to your primary to get bp meds? the onc's office just keeps asking me if I'm nervous and I keep telling them that my bp's been up since this all started?
-
Haha. My son is awesome! He cooks probably 90% of our meals. My daughter on the other hand....
Melrose, I can taste some things but not others. My salad at lunch tasted great. Maybe thats my body's way of telling me to eat more salads! Haha -
