Two Hobbies, make sure you drink lots of water and don't drink sodas or juices. The soda and juice will help you retain water weight without filling you up. Eat whole foods like bananas or apples after you exercise. The fiber will fill you up and the sugar will give you energy. Do not eat granola bars, cookies, bread, cake or donuts as you will burn through that sugar and the refined carbs will store as fat. One of my favorite snacks after excercising is apples with organic peanut butter. Gives you fiber, low glycemic carbs and protien.

Badger and Snobird, I will try drinking extra water. I do drink water, but maybe I'm not getting enough. I don't drink soda or juice anyway. The apple and pb might be a great idea. I'll try that too. Apples do fill me up and the pb would add some protein and fat. I'll let you know.

I have a 22 oz water bottle that I fill and drink from. I fill it 3 times a day and drink between 60 and 66 oz of filtered water per day to make sure I get the proper amount. Just drinking that will keep your stomach feeling full most of the time. It also helps flush any toxins out of your body. I needed to do the water trick because otherwise I had no real way to be sure I was getting the proper amount. Also do not drink ice water, especially when eating. It prevents the stomach from complete, proper digestion and can also cause stomach cramping after exercise.
Ok, I am down 8 lbs. after being on the 17 day diet for 14 days. I'm sure that it will slow down after I start adding some carbs back in on day 18 but hopefully this jumps start phase was the key to get me off the plateau I've been stuck on for 3 months. Man I can't wait to have some rice at dinner and toast with my eggs. -
Snobird that's great. I hadn't heard of the 17 day diet so I looked it up. It seems to get good reviews. Maybe I'll have to check it out. Tell us about it. What do you eat? .
-
I had heard about but I'm not usually much of a fan of fad diets so I went to Amazon to read reviews and first I was surprised just to see the number of reviews that were there and after I started reading them they were overwhelmingly positive. I downloaded the book to my IPad and read through it and said I can do this, no problem. So I enjoyed my weekend and started on Monday AM. Your eat mostly fruit, vegetables, yogurt and chicken and fish for the first 17 days. No alcohol, bread, rice, potatoes, beans and other starches. You don't count calories or points. You drink green tea, water, and coffee if you want. A father the first 17 days you start the next phase were you add back into your diet on alternating days additional vegetables and fruits, rice, cheese, lean beef, etc. you should still be losing but probably not as much as the first 17 days. Then you can continue that or go back to the first phase again but if you have reached your goal you go onto the maintenance phase. Basically it tricks your metabolism into burning fat and also eases you into healthier eating.
I got to tell you I have not been hungry since I started. -
Hi all-- back again online. Been off board lately but not off good eating!
Two Hobbies--
Try a protein shake-- about 20 grams of protein (whey or soy) with whatever you want in it..almond milk, yogurt strawberries-- keep it low glycemic but drink it all. That is what your muscles need and your blood sugar craves.
I have been steadily losing my chemo weight. I am down about a total of 12# since March. Not dieting at all just choosing. I lost the momentum a bit--wen tcamping and everyone brought different brownies (HAD to try them all, right?) and then, Easter--my husband bought Sees candy and too much. But, I got back from all that and my clothes are loose again.
I am not eager to go on a "diet" per se--- cuz afterall, what you go on you come off-- but this 17day diet looks interesting. Tell me more.

oops sorry... I see you (snobird) posted more on the 17 day diet. Anyone else doing it? Q

Wow, You are all doing so well. You learn so much over the years of what works for you and what you need to be doing more of.
I have really found that if I record all my food, particularly on days when I overinduldge, I see what the impact is. Trying to lose a pound a month I am trying to see how many days a month I need to consume only 1,600 calories and lose the one pound.
Missed for May 1. I weighed 152 and my goal was 148. I am committed to consuming 1,600 calories each day now until I hit 148.
TwoHobbies, I also have a problem with my increased exercise increasing my appetite noticeably. It is improtant to have a snack within 30-60 minutes of finishing a workout, but I try to make the calories in the snack no more than half the calories burned in the workout. A heart rate monitor is essential to figure what you burned. I often time exercise to finish an hour or half hour before lunch, so that meal will serve to replenish my glycogen stores.
A post workout snack should be 2 grams of carbohydrates for each gram of protein. I have found that one combination is 8 oz. of skim milk and two apricot halves and works for me. Fat and fiber slows the replenishing process, so the apple and peanut butter, while a good snack isn't suitable to replenish the system post exercise.

Thanks, all, for the suggestions. I'll start experimenting with those when I do my next intense exercise. This week I decided I'm just walking 15 to 30 minutes a day, depending on my mood. That doesn't seem to make me as hungry,. When I start going over 35 or so is when the hunger kicks in. When the weather gets nice I tend to overdue it because I love to bike and hike and all that.
Boo, I have not been doing well the last two or three months. I was very stressed at work and I ate whatever I wanted and gained 4 lbs. So now I have to get back on the program!
Snobird I got the !7 Day Diet book. I'm going to try it starting tomorrow. It's similar to South Beach, which I did well on in the past. The difficulty with South Beach was the desire to start it. Once I start its pretty easy, but I don't look forward to their phase I. This allows more fruit and yogurt up front, so I think I will do better. Wish me perseverance!
On that note, I'm going to go pack my food for tomorrow!

Had to report.....had our final weigh in yesterday ( I think I shared I was involved with the Biggest Loser through our school district). As I also stated I've been doing "Boot Camp" 2 days a week since January. In January I was measured and weighed. At the final weigh in I was down 5.4 pounds. I was rootin' on 10 pounds, however was pleased that I lost 5.4. The best news though....and this is definitely attributed to my Boot Camp..I lost a total of 9 inches. Wowza. Three inches in my waist alone. Nothing beats getting physical....and boy oh boy, have I been getting physical. Working my BUTT off and lovin it!!!

Good work, Marejo. You may have gained a pound of two of muscle also. At least that's the way I like to think of it!
Day 3 of my diet. So far not too hungry. I even walked 37 minutes and didn't get hungry. I ate greek yogurt and some berries before the walk. So far so good...And I even managed to give up coffee for green tea two days. But this morning I did have coffee.
-
marejo, what a great job! Don't you love seeing results. Keep up the good work.
Planning a snack mid morning and mid afternoon helps me to fight the increased appetitie. At least I know it is always just a short time until I refuel. I like edemame and a large glass of water in the afternoon. The fiber really is filling.

I wanted to report in on how I'm doing. I started the 17 day diet but then it got interrupted by an unexpected business trip, and two birthday parties and one graduation party when I got back. So June 1, I started back on a diet and I have kind of developed my own plan but its close to South Beach or the 17 day diet. I did about 3 days of high protein, almost no carbs to break my hunger. Now I am eating a lot of cottage cheese, eggs, greek yogurt, salads, occasional carbs but no sweets and it is working! I lost the weight I gained back this winter and my appetite is in control. I bought some no sugar added ice cream bars to get me through those ice cream cravings. Now I'm not even needing those. I'm down 6 lbs since June 1, which is good for me. I hope I can continue for another 12 lbs or so. Time will tell.
