Any April/May 2012 rad girls out there?

Lory48- I get n x-ray every week. The techs said it was to insure that all the measurements are the same--- to ensure that the RADS is appropriately targeted.
-
Hi Califgirl- I am having a smoothie in the am. Maybe I should add protein to it? I'm blending one cup of Greek non fat yogurt, one banana, 4 strawberries, a handful of blueberries, a huge handful of fresh baby spinach, about a quarter cup of Boathouse berry juice and 4 ice cubes. It's delicious. You don't even know the spinach is in there.
My rads center takes pictures (xrays) every six days. They explained they do this to make sure they are getting the right spot and because sometimes your weight fluctuates during rads.
TexasRose- I am not getting any boosts. Just 28 plain ones I guess... -
I get some kind of pics taken every time before rads. I had a boost during surgery which cut off 2 weeks off the regular rads. My total is now 5 weeks, 25 treatments. 6 down - 19 to go.

dumb question ?? how do I know if they are taking xrays?
-
I always have a protein meal replacement shake in the morning (Herbalife) vanilla with added banana and blueberries, or chocolate with banana and maybe a scoop of pnut butter. Yum. Couldn't live without it! (all plant-based protein too).....maybe it helps?
I only know they are "taking pictures" because they tell me....
-
Joanne_53,
The techs usually use markers to mark the tattoos and line the body. Once I hear them say "coverage and clearance" they tell me that they are now ready to start and leave the room. That is when the xray takes place. Sometimes, they come back to move me or to better align then they leave again. The radiation then begins! I hope this helps!
Did you ask the RO why you needed more treatments after previously having told you that you needed 16?
-
My techs told me they were going to be doing pics once a week, on Thursday before I see the RO. They slide an extra glass plate into the machine, then come back and take it out and do the treatment...
-
This is the first time in 3 weeks that the techs have said xrays today? I have my weekly onco appt tomorrow I will ask about this.
-
IMine did an xray today. They do them every monday and I also meet with RO on Mondays. Does every\one else know there tattoo line up number? I always heat tatoo is at 95...lol I will never forget that number!!
-
Hi Momof3boys, I know Greek yogurt has a lot of protein and I always make a similar smoothie like your recipe. I purchases a Vitamixer and love it. Since our treatment is causing damage to healthy tissue/cells along with killing off any remaining cancer cells, I know our protein needs are increased. I am drinking one for B'fast everyday too. I hope it helps me. So far I feel fine, in fact we spent the weekend walking all over San Diego Sea World for 10 hrs on Sat and 6 on Sunday! Got alot of Vit D too!
Regarding the X-rays, my techs said they do it weekly to make sure they have me aligned properly and that they are treating the area exactly as they need to. Someone had mentioned earlier a problem with their throat hurting....this was probably caused by improper alignment? -
Leaving in a few minutes for tx #2. I know it will end, but right now it already feels like drudgery. Such a weird time of life. I'm going to ask today about xrays. Haven't been there long enough to know what they do each time! I just know that every other day I have some kind of pad or fabric placed over the area which helps the tx target the skin more. Other days, it will be closer to the chest wall. Oh, to be sure that it is doing what they say! I've never been very scared about recurrence, but I think I put so much energy into getting through chemo that now I just feel tired! Anyone relate?!

That is a lot of water. Lol
-
Arggh i cant figure out how to post replies to everyone.
tired
Caligirl12-i am going full vegetarian when this nightmare all over. My kids have been for years, kinda hard not being one in my house. Got a vitamixer few months ago. Havnt fully incorporated it into my life. Traveling for rads. I just love that thing.
Luvmygoats-i am nurse too. I work in interventional radiology prn. Usually 2-3 days a week. But ive been pretty much been off since sx in sept. I dont have position so they couldnt let me go. They have been so wonderful and understanding. My patients have been asking about me. I miss it teribly. Supposed to go back next tues. Whoa i am tired though. Will do me good to try and get back in. Went back briefly after chemo. It was wonderful. I am not ready to start sedating patients again. Will have to get my sea legs.
Congrats mamglam on finishing!!!!!!
2down andimom! It does pass quickly.
All this to build a better nurse:-) -
mamglam --- apparently I was to have 25 from the start but someone only scheduled 16. I was told during my consult with the RO that the # would depend on the results of the CT scan. My breast is larger and dense (lol) so that is why I need 25.
As for xrays - I asked today and they took one the 1st day to put in the file to show that they had the set-up right -- but that is the only xray they took.
-
Mine take xrays weekly to make sure i am still in good position.

Good Morning Ladies! How many of you that had lumpectomies/partial are still wearing bras with rads? I am getting to the pouint where I cannot wait to get mine off. I have prosthetic bras with my little foob in it, it's soft, but the underarm and my side get so sore, so off it comes. I was going to get an aloe infused cami, but the seams go right down the from of the breast- that's a def noway!
Looking for some suggestions
-
I am wearing my bra -- it is a cheapy, slightly padded one from Walmart. I have worn shelf bra cammies -- but someone said to wear them inside out so you don't get any seams rubbing directly on your breast. I am ok with those but have to wear my pjs inside out -- there is a seam that goes right across the nipple and it drives me insane -- try that --
-
I bought several soft cup bras made by Bali that I like really well. I hate sports bras and not wearing one simply is not an option.
-
I still wear a bra to work, couldn't do without. If you wear a bigger size, (38 - 54) I like the Comfort Choice "cotton everyday wirefree leisure" bra (found it on Amazon) got a couple that are a cup size or two bigger than I usually wear so I can pad them when I need to. Still very comfy and some of them are about $10 each.
The camis with shelfs are not comfy at all for me right now.

Hi Rad Girls,
Just checking in today (after reading everything) cus I'm feeling really grumpy. The good news is, I had a day off from Rads today because my machine is in for servicing. I'm not kidding.
Like Lory, I just lost my second toenail, and I've been out of chemo since January. Lory - I can emphathise with how dissheartening that is. I'm getting really tired of dealing with side effects of treatment. I've been working my butt off doing everything right for the last eight months, and now I've just had enough.
FrednTan - You said that you don't like feel like doing much? Ditto. My partner/wingman asks what I want for dinner, and I'm overwhelmed by the idea of making another desicion. I don't really care what's for dinner, and I don't want to cook it. Last night I finally came up with 'Chinese'. And he said 'How about Indian?'. And I thought - how about a divorce? All I really want to do is watch chick movies on TV.
Joanne - Sorry to hear that your treamtment was extended. That couldn't have been welcome news
On the brighter side - Day #15 yesterday, and my skin is only slightly pink. The Rad Doc thought it looked great. I've been slathering aloe gel on three times a day, and walking around topless for 15 minutes while it sinks in. So far, it seems to be working.
-
Heading in for #23 of 36 today. The skin under my arm is so dark my DH said it looks like a wicked bruise. The skin on my chest is incredibly red and yesterday, started looking like a rash
Everyone keeps asking me if it feels like a sunburn....I tell them it feels like a sunburn that you accidentally scratch with your fingernails.
Ditto on the X-Rays for alignment. My techs take them every 3 tx's or so. I ask a boatload of questions when I am in there. I have forged a friendship with my techs and they tell me a lot, but I've noticed that I have to ask...they don't volunteer much info. Also, when my DH comes with me, he asks all kinds of questions that I would never think of. For instance, he found out that my rads machine costs $3.5 million!!
Lory ~ I am a full MX w/ TE's, but I was wearing a bra w/ a prosthesis to even things out. Now, I can not tolerate a bra on my skin at all. It makes it very tricky to find things to wear to rads that don't make me look like a circus side-show act :-\
SAN
-
Any of you have a nipple that is puckered? Mine is, and I had to take a qtip and clean it out..sorry TMI, but OMG felt sooo tender and weird.
-
San, I totally agree. I am 3 cup sizes on my BC breast than the other.. my skin is soo itchy, in between and my back ugg
-
Lory - yes. My nipple has been retracted since surgery. I use a q-tip every morning to clean and dry the crater before I apply the cream. BS and RO both think that the nipple may return to normal someday after the swelling is gone.
-
Lory - puckered? my nipple is very brown and very sore -- and I am slathering the cream on it -- it feels good after but it is very tender.
-
Sandy mine was only 2million bought last summer! It looks real high tech, expensive
-
Just got back from my first zap....very uneventful. How long before you all noticed redness and/or discomfort? Did you start with the lotions after 1st tx? I want to try to stay ahead of the game as much as possible.
On another note, the techs told me today that I will get xrays weekly to verify my alignment and document my treatment plan.
-
Joanne, yes- it's retracted now from swelling. Just bizarre. Another add to the question for my Ronco today. Dry and clean, then slather! now if I could only find a comfy bra for my DDD and C- chest.. one I can pack with baby washcloths.. lol

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Fruit-of-the-Loom-Fleece-Lined-Wirefree-Softcup-Bra-Style-96248/14550022
this is the bra that I am wearing and it is wonderful -- I might never spend a lot on a bra again --
the one above I did try and on and I know other ladies on here talk about this one !! it does come in larger cups
I take my cream with me and apply right after treatment - my entire breast making sure I cover the nipple well and my armpit - that seems to be helping -- but I still have 9 left.
-
Kellogs,
I really cant remember? Lol
My entire "breast"area is still numb from mast, but i have that gawd awful TE. And it feels like my muscles keep trying to clamp down. I keep stretching it back out.
I dont think its been soooo bad. The first days where worst cause i was so tearful. Crying all over the place. Etc etc
