No Zumba for me. Not until I find a "Zumba For Sedentary, Formerly Bedridden, Sluggish Dummies" as that's all I think I could do.

Met with my trainer this morning. He had researched my surgery and come up with a bunch of exercises to help me stretch and strengthen my muscles before my exchange surgery in the fall.

He also altered the program I was on before, removing all the arm machines, and adapting some of the other lower-body machines for me.

As for cardio, I tried the recumbent bike and the loud crackling noises from my knees were downright embarassing! Got on the eliptical and HATED the sensation. So it's back to the treadmill for me. That's o.k. I can prop my iPad on the top and look at Pinterest while I'm walking!!!! Smile

I just have to take it easy....I'm only taking in 960 calories a day, so they don't want me to overdo it.

I love zumba, but I have a bad knee (from all that fencing), and when I went to try zumba in January (after my 2nd chemo treatment), my knee completely went out from under me. I've heard there are a lot of knee injuries in zumba. Not to discourage anyone - it's a fantastic and fun workout. But do pay attention if you feel your knee isn't quite positioning itself well.

Wow...I was wondering why my knees have been aching me!!! My other joints hurt so I just figured it was time the knees kicked in. I'll have to watch how I do it.

Rachel, I took fencing in college as part of one of my elective requirements.... I loved it & was pretty good at it, I made the team. I'm sorry to admit that I got the uniform & never really joined the team. Have always wanted to try & pick up the sport again but just haven't gotten around to it. You've sparked my enthusiasm again. I'll have to see if there is anything local for beginners.. I was 18 when I did it last!!

Blessings, you are doing so great, keep it up. Wow that is a small amount of calories. That is why it is working. I've been trying to eat 1500 cal & that is quite challenging. You go girl!!!

Off to work this morning...taking my protein bar, yogurt & waters for the day. I hope to do some sort of

exercise when I get home. Have a great day everyone & keep drinking that water.

Kathy, I hope you are feeling better....(((hugs)))

tenaj - I'm on Optifast. Remember Oprah in her black turtleneck, skinny jeans, and boots, pulling a wagon full of fat on stage many years ago? She had lost all that weight on Optifast. But she put it all back on, plus more.

When I saw my PS for my last fills, I asked what would happen if he put in permanent squishies the size of my TEs, and later lost weight. He said the implants would look really big. In other words, STRIPPER BOOBS!!! So I decided to lose weight before my exchange, to get normal sized implants.

Plus, my MO was thrilled. She said that the best thing I could do for my overall health - AND my ER+ breast cancer - would be to drop this excess weight - now!

It's all done through Kaiser and is carefully monitored with regular labwork and physician's exams. It's expensive, has potentially dangerous side effects, and requires a long-term (82 weeks) commitment.  Each day's product has all the nutrients and supplements I need for the day. I have four shakes, one soup, and a nutrition bar per day. I am averaging about 3 pounds a week loss.

For me, it's easy. I love the taste of the products, and I'm never hungry. But here is the real reason I am sticking to it: I didn't need chemo or rads. But if this diet will help eliminate estrogen (such as what is produced in body fat) from my body, then it is just another part of my breast cancer treatment. If I look at it that way, there's my motivation.

YOU, on the other hand, are really doing it the hard way (low calorie), and you deserve a huge high-five for sticking to that diet!!!!! Yay for you!!!! Smile

Hi, everyone!!!! Tenaj,Thank you so for the hug!!! I am feeling much better and hubby is getting there to. We did a long walk today, and the positive side of a cold is diminished appetite. But we have been drinking lots of water.Blessings, I remember when Oprah talked about Optifast and her weight loss.  I really like how they monitor you and it sounds very nutritious. Maybe after my attempt with the 17 day Diet, I will look into Optifast. I love all the ideas given here. One way or another we are going to come out of this thinner and healthier. Hi to everyone on this thread, hope you are all having a great day!!!!! Hugs!!!Embarassed

Hi, everyone!!!!! Back to a normal exercise routine today, but walking yesterday did us both good. I just realized after reading my 17 day Diet book, that the author also recommends only exercising 17 minutes a day  on the first cycle. OOps, did not follow that. I am so used to exercising at least 30 minutes a day, well weigh in is tomorrow.  Hugs to you all, and as Michael Fox told his children:: When you walk out the door:Choose Happiness!!!!!!! And drink lots of water, thanks Tenaj!!!!!!!

Hi My name is Kris....and I, too, have gained WAAAAAAY too much weight!!!

Is it the steroids?  Is it the chemo?  (finished TCH on 4/6)  Or are these just excuses??  I have always been a big girl, but seriously, I have gained 27 lbs since I started chemo, putting me at a weight where I NEVER thought I would be!!! I honestly don't think that I was consuming enough that would make me gain about 1.5lbs per week.

I honestly don't know how I am going to get this weight off.  I am MISERABLE.  I bought jeans last night in the biggest size ever, and I am not happy about it at ALL!  before I had my mastectomy I was walking in the mornings 3-4 days a week, then chemo.....and now chemo is over, but I still feel really lethargic.....how long will that last??

Welcome Vanlex! Congratulations on finishing chemo!!!!! I can't speak re: chemo as I didn't have it. But as a BC sister, I have my share of experiences. I was never a small girl either, I was blessed with a shape where the extra weight went to the right places LOL. Now......no more nice boobies & a belly that I never had. So I hear where you are coming from. I have learned to eat better & enjoy having exercise in my life as a fun routine now. With the friendly support of the women I have meet on this thread I know I will loose weight & be in better shape.

Hi, VanlexSmile Welcome to this wonderful and encouraging thread. Don't be too hard on yourself, you have been through alot!!! When I was going through Chemo, I did not have alot of energy and my exercise routine was limited. But it does get better each day and you will find alot of encouragement here. Just take one day at a time, one step at a time. I am doing the 17
day diet, now, lots of protein, yogurt and whole grain. Don't give up, the weight will come off. Find a walking buddy and do a little each day. Hugs to you!!!!!

Hi, Ladies, How are you all? Weigh in was today. Since February I had lost 10 lbs. Right after Easter I gained 3 lbs back. Since being on the 17 day diet, I have lost the 3lbs that I gained and lost two more!!! I think the diet is working, but I thought it would, because it is very low carb and I am so carb sensitive. I am still on the first cycle of the diet, and your supposed to lose up to 11 pounds. We will see, just glad that I am back on track. I did learn a new little trick. I chew gum right after I eat, sugarless, and it not only helps my heartburn, but keeps me from overeating!!! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Exercise today was walking and moving our Jeff and Liz into a new townhome. Lots of lifting and stairs. Still drinking lots of water and no sodas. Hugs to you all.Cool

You are going to look gorgeous in your dress for the wedding. Keep up the great job. I'm going on amazon to check out the book now. Have a great night :-)

    Hi, vanlex....and welcome!

I didn't have chemo, but I was basically bedridden from the beginning of November to the end of January, from one thing or another. (BMX was December 5th)

I was soooooo down from unrelenting illness, constant pain, having no energy, and not being able to imagine EVER having stamina again.

    But it slowly returns.  Seriously.

I did 30 minutes on the treadmill today!!!! I was so happy!!!! Of course, I was kind of "strolling" more than "walking", but I did have my iPad up there, and was so involved in Pinterest, the time just flew by. Two months ago I never would have believed it.

Just be gentle with your good self!!!! Smile

Good morning & happy Sunday to all. I am holding steady with a measly 2 lb weight loss, so I ordered the 17 day diet book from amazon & will give it a try.

Yesterday I rode almost 5 miles on the bike & then did some gardening. I am a member of a beautification committee in our town & cleaned out a roadside flower bed that I am responsible for. Next step is to mulch it & put some annuals in. It looks so beautiful when you drive by, it makes a big difference. Anyway....got some exercise in.

    Wishing everyone a special day!!!

Hi everybody, been posting on another weight loss thread but it's not so active. I've been losing weight steadily after my last surgery. Lost 20 lbs 8 weeks post BMX/DIEP of which at least 5 was just fat removed as part of the surgical procedure and 6 was just relocated LOL. I'm fairly active during the winter because I ski at least 3 days a week all season. Mud season is a drag for me because it really too old and damp to enjoy the outdoors and even though I own a treadmill I'm not that motivated to use it. I'm really looking forward to biking soon.

Anyhoo, I started the 17 Diet 10 days ago, hoping to get me off a weight loss plateau that I have been stuck on for the last 3 months or so, and I am so pleased to have lost 8 lbs so far. I now have only 18 more pounds to reach my goal weight. I was pleased with myself last night at a friends for dinner I heaped up my pasta plate with salad and used my salad bowl for meatballs and marinara sauce sans spaghetti. I drank water in my wine glass. I had some green tea and lemon while others had cognac. I ended up being the DD for the group LOL. Did I miss drinking the wine? Absolutely! But I really want this diet to work because it is one I can stay on for life and I will be able to get back to having my wine soon.

My trick for using the dreamill is to listen to trashy novels on my iPod while I'm on it. I tend to stay longer just to get to the end of a chapter.

Good Luck everybody with your goals.

Hi everyone! I just can't seem to get my motivation back. I plan on getting back on track tomorrow. I needed new dress slacks for work and seriously tried on15 pairs of pants and bought one pair I was happy with. In a size bigger than what I have since they are tight and uncomfortable. I did look through the 17 day diet book at Barnes n Noble yesterday. They only had the hard back. I am considering ordering it on my IPad since it is cheaper. I have not bought groceries for the week yet so I need to read through it to see what I need to buy. My weight this time seems to have all gone to my legs which seems weird to me but my pants rebtight in the legs not in the hips and waist noy sure how to get rid of that but hopefully this new 17 day diet will help. Take care all and I will be anxious to see others doing the 17 day diet progress. It has been terrible weather here. We were at the mall and were hearded down to the lower level due to tornado warning. Golf size hail put several holes in my tannou cover on my truck and damaged the hood. Thankfully it did not bust my window. We were about half hour from st louis mo area where major hail damage occurred and there was one death. So our loss was very minor. several cars there had major hail damage.

Kathy. Thanks for the encouragement. I think clothes shopping just got me down. I am going shopping today to get some veggies and fruit to help me get back on track. I am very bad about drinking water. Does anyone know if adding those little packets of crystal light or other brands to water is ok or should it be plain old water???

HI all, life has been crazy busy lately. I've been trying to keep up the walking while DS is at soccer practice and that's been going pretty well. Food continues to be a challenge. I work at a place that just has food everywhere all the time. I'm doing OK, but could be doing great if I really put my head back into it.

ATeamNana - using something like crystal light in water is OK if it helps you drink more. Some don't like the adding chemicals aspect, but in terms of weight loss I don't think there's an issue.

Happy Sunday all. We have to buy an anniversary present today, take DS to soccer practice (although I may send DH to do that and walk earlier in the day before it gets so hot), and then we have an anniversary dinner to attend for BIL and SIL (5 years).

Hey ATeam, try not to think of water as "plain old water". It is our life saver and we can't live without it. I actually used to be a big diet soda drinker until I got BC. Once I quit the soda, juice thing I immediately lost 5 lbs in one week and my cravings for sugar dropped too. Now soda and sweet tasting drinks taste terrible to me. I have really good tasting well water so that helps. I also stock carbonated flavored water drinks for when I have an urge for something fizzy but I don't count that as my water ration. Instead of drinking a whole glass of water try just sipping water periodically throughout the day. I try not to eat or drink anything artificial. If I feel a need for sugar I make sure it's the real deal or use stevia. Something's I will just eat a teaspoon of honey as a snack when I'm feeling looggy. No sugar though in the first 17 days.

Thanks Snobird for the info....I am not a water drinker at all..our water where I live is absolutely horrible.  We purchased a new fridge with the water purifier in it and it still tastes gross, so we buy bottled water.  I did buy the 17 day diet and the 100 meal cookbook on my ipad/iphone today.Went grocery shopping and bought some fruit, veggies...tuna in water, and even some yogurt ...(another thing I really don't like) but I"M GONNA do it....I am fixing tacos for supper tonight with ground turkey but starting tomorrow with the 17 day diet.  I hope to do some reading of the book tonight so I can try to figure out what I need to do to get off on the right track.  Sounds like this may be the thing.  I'm not a soda drinker so that is not a big problem.  I do like sweet tea and lattes but I can give that up.  I bought some green tea bags so I can drink that and I bought the new C&H sugar that is half sevia.  I will learn to LIKE water...I WILL I WILL....hahaha:)

I truly love this blog it is so helpful....Hi to everyone!!!!!

Snobird, water is important, I try to drink 8-10 glasses a day. Good luck on the 17 day diet. You will do great!!!!!  ATeamNana. Good luck on the 17 day diet as well. I have been drinking green tea, too, 2 cups a day. Hi to everyone else and have a great rest of Sunday. Hugs, Kathy

Didn't get out this morning for my walk, so took DS to soccer practice and got my walk in then. It wasn't as hot as I feared it might be, there was at least a cool breeze most of the time.

We're having italian tonight so that might be tough, but I've been good today on the food, so I can splurge a bit tonight. I've heard this places' gnocci are amazing.

I used to not drink much water, but now I can hardly go without, once you get going on it, your body wants it, so starting is the hardest part.

Beautiful sunny day and I was able to get in a 3 mile walk while listening to my book. Then we had dinner at a friends again and I lucked out because she made shepards pie with lamb instead of hamburger and peas instead of corn. Still had the mashed potatoes but I just scraped them off. Skipped wine again for water and totally skipped dessert which someone brought. Looked fabulous though but I persevered.

Great way to eat yogurt is to make a smoothie with frozen fruit, protien powder and almond or coconut milk. I have one everyday. It's like having dessert for a meal. Make sure you use plain unflavored yogurt and protien powder with stevia no sugar. My favorite is chocolate protien powder, Chobani plain yogurt, frozen cherries or raspberries, and coconut milk. Blend in a blender and enjoy. Tera's Whey is an organic protien powder that I can get at my health food store. It comes in 4 different flavors.

When I take my thyroid pill, I drink a cup of water. I keep an insulated cup in the car and sip on it throughout the day.

    However.....

On Optifast, we have to drink a gallon of water a day. Hate it!

What I started doing was adding extra water to my products. Instead of adding 8 oz of water to make a shake, I use 2 cups of water and half a cup of ice, and whizz it in my VitaMix.

I end up with a huge 32 oz, shake, sweet and creamy, which totally fills me up.

For my soup, instead of 6 oz. of hot water, I add a cup and a half of water and the soup mix to my blender, whizz until creamy, and then put in a measuring cup and microwave for a minute and a half. This more than triples the amount of soup I get.

Very filling, and by the end of the day, I've gotten in all my water!!!

Blessings. That sounds like a good plan to get that extra water in that manner.

I made two scrambled eggs this morning cooked in a tad of olive oil. I'm drinking a cup of green tea and I bought frozen blueberrie but was disappointed I did not realize they had sugar. I rinsed them off real good and ate half a cup. I hate to waste them so hoping this slight modification won't sabatoge my efforts. I usually go to motomart for a cup of coffee and try hard not to eat the stuff others bring in to work. I'm taking an apple to eat in case I get an urge to eat with them. We do have a water dispenser at work so hope I can remember to drink my water. Good luck everyone!!! Have a great day!

Wylers has good frozen blueberries and raspberries without sugar. You can also buy fresh and freeze yourself. Just rinse dry and spread out on paper towels on a cookie sheet and put in the freezer for an hour. Then store in a freezer in an airtight container. I freeze tons of fruit in season and then have it all winter.

ATeam, you should keep a bottle of water at your desk or with you close by so that you can drink more than small cups from a water cooler.
