Lol it seems like it Dance!
Melrose that's really good. My oncologist was looking for a clinical trial for me as well because I'm 25 and HER+ which is kinda rare for my age. I wish you the best and very little SE’s.
Lisa, I just researched it and it does seem like it would be worth taking. I've never been a smoker but they have it in tea and another form as well. It sucks that your insurance is being a pain. I hope your appitite returns soon. At the moment I don't have one either I'm scared to eat anything after last night but I know it's a mind over matter thing. -
Hey Sade - you have Kaiser, right? They sent me with the same stuff for nausea but also threw in the compazine. I didn't end up needing it this time but heard it works well. Just that it makes you sleepy, so they said to avoid taking it with a sleep aid.
So ladies, I do live in a state that legalized medical marijuana - there are seriously more dispensaries in my locale than there are Starbucks, kid you not. My personal preference is not to do it - I don't like smoking or feeling stoned - but I certainly don't object to anyone who uses it to ward off chemo SEs.
The whole issue is also a huge legal mess here because federal law trumps all state and local laws, and does not recognize medical use of marijuana as legal. So that means regardless of illness or disability, residents in federally assisted housing can't use it in their homes. The FBI is also busy trying to arrest growers and distributors all the time. Pretty crazy!
I hope, though, if you can get it and want to try it that it works for you; I'm told it is great for relieving nausea and we all know about the munchies. -
LisaG65 - ba-ha-ha-ha!!!! I love your play on words! But sorry for your diminished appetite. That hasn't happened to me yet. I hope you get your script!
-
Dancetrancer - I know, right, about the appetite? I tell people when the Red Warrior's hungry, I have to feed him. Yesterday I even ate a Chicago style Italian roast beef sandwich (I hardly ever eat red meat) and then just had to get tiramisu from Whole Foods for dessert.....
I have tried nibbling on little stuff during the day but this was some serious hunger. At least I've managed to avoid major heartburn by not doing too much spicy stuff. -
Indigo - YES, it is so strange - at times I had a HUGE appetite...gobbled down food (one never would expect this on chemo, eh?)....and then....oooooohhhh....GI issues....painful lesson!!!! Interesting that you, too, experienced a surge in appetite.
-
Wow-- IndigoMont11--- what a hunger!!!! That tiramisu sounds really good but no more food for me for a while. Had my mini lunch and it's time to drink drink drink. I'm just eating on a schedule whether I'm really hungry or not. Can't wait until I feel better so I can play with my new Vitamix.
-
Yep, I have good ol Kaiser. So far I'm really pleased with them too except for my onc not agreeing to approve my extended time off. My BS asked me how long I wanted to be out after surgery which I thought was pretty cool. I know a lot of people work through treatment but I don't want to if I can help it. I work in retail and that's stressful in itself. So if he doesn't approve it I can only afford to be off without pay for about 3 months then I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and go back. *fingers crossed that he'll have a change of heart*
-
Sade I understand about not wanting to work through treatment. I know many women do, but I have two jobs - one is extremely physical and working with ill patients (physical therapist in a nursing home) and the other is teaching therapy students - tons of hands on in the lab, LOTS of germs. DH and I decided my "job" right now is to take care of myself and stay away from situations that have a high risk for contagious diseases...I feel very fortunate that I am able to take this time off.
-
Sade, I'm really surprised at your onc! When I discussed my work with my onc, he was really glad that I can work from home and not at all in favor of going into the office to work during chemo, which will altogether take about 6 months. They kept asking me if I was OK with the FMLA form, too.
Anyway, after this one week I can understand where they were coming from, about working from home, for sure.
Keep feeling better! -
That is great that you can take that time off. And working should be decided upon us not what doctors feel. My DH was upset with my oncologist because it takes nothing to sign off on the form. And if I feel like I don’t want to work through treatment because my health is more important then the onc should understand that. He was more on patients tend to be overly concerned with infections than they need to be! Duh, I'd rather be overly cautious about my health than not cautious enough. I thought he would be more understanding.
-
You are absolutely right. If you were my daughter I'd take that onc to task. I will pray that it works out the way you need it to. Glad your DH has your back too!
-
Thanks, Indigo. I thought he would have been more like your oncologist. My BS even told my job that it's possible I would still need more time off due to my treatment so I do not know what my oncologist deal is.
-
Sade, I have Kaiser too and I have been very happy with them so far. I am a middle school teacher and my oncologist signed me off of work no problem. I decided it I needed to take this time off to focus on me so I could have years of teaching to come. I hope your oncologist comes around. Maybe it might even be worth switching??? Where are you located?
-
Day 3. I'm feeling kind of crappy today. Not hungry but not queasy, but not just right either. I am burping a lot. Melrose, exactly what yo uare describing, twin! I know my period should be coming, but will it or won't it? Who knows. I just woke up from a nap. I am at work. Just doing paperwork. I have a thing tonight, if I feel up to it. If I don't, then my partner will have to go solo.
-
Sade - I agree with you wholeheartedly. Is it possible your primary care doc would be willing to sign whatever forms you need to be signed? (if his signature would be valid?)
-
Hope you feel better soon sandik. Does sound like you are on the same ride as Melrose.
-
Sandik- Hey twin!!! Rest...rest.... rsst.... Your partner can do the event tonight without you!!!! I've been told you can take something for the burping like pepcid but it's just burping and not really bothering me enough to take anything. i feel like I have enough stuff circulating in my body without more stuff. .
-
Ladybug, I'm in Georgia. I have thought about switching but my DH said don't do anything just yet. It's a bit of a waiting game at the moment.
-
Took the plunge today....was shedding like crazy....got my hair shaved off. I have two beautiful wigs....but it felt too tight...got to work on that.
I teared up when I took it off to show my boyfriend but he smiled and told me I look athletic.
I guess it's just one more step along the road to recovery.
I'm two days beyond day two of AC and feeling pretty good -
Just had my first acupuncture treatment ever. Wow, what an interesting experience! First 20 to 30 minutes my stomach made all kinds of grumbly noises. Then my leg felt uncomfortable and when I tried to move it, I had some pain where one of the needles was...this resulted in a hot flash from my toes to my head. That happened several times. Then I just felt very serene and almost in a trance-like state. Fascinating! My stomach feels more settled and my neck is much more relaxed. Not quite sure what to make of it, but I'm intrigued enough to go back for additional sessions!
FYI, no needles in my left arm due to SNB precautions.
-
DT, I too had acupuncture 8 yrs ago b/c I was unable to get pregnant - had it for about 2 months and whamo! Coincidence? I think not.
I recall getting that hot flash and the trace-like state. Definately something to it, and I've been meaning to go back for some time now. Its interesting about the needles in the left arm. I know those needles are so slim you hardly feel them going in or out, but it is enough of a risk not to do it. Did the practioner feel your tx was compromised at all by leaving out the left arm?
-
He didn't say if he did feel my treatment was compromised. I didn't ask him, b/c I figured I didn't have any choice. It wasn't a risk I was willing to take. He just kept telling me to remind him not to put any needles in that arm. LOL. I can imagine it would be tough to remember when he normally has free reign! It was such a cool experience...how neat that we had the same kind of reaction! And WOW, got you pregnant! LOL! I don't think that was a coincidence at all!!! Oh...it better not have that effect on me. LOL LOL LOL Just hoping it makes my chemo experience easier to tolerate.
-
I pray it all works out where each of you can make your own decisions about working/not working, etc. It's enough to deal with the stress of battling cancer without additional stressors.
I went for a walk in the mall today, sporting my new bald head. I was very self conscious but I don't think anyone noticed me.
Today is day 5 of treatment #2. Felt achy today but not like treatment #1, so the Claritin is helping.
Rest well tonight ladies. Minimal SE's. Gnite. -
Hey everyone....Annie is on day 11 today and only gets run down after a long day with the kids. When she takes it easy she is better but it's hard for her to stop! Even with the cleaning lady here she was helping! She said her head feels weird and is really worried about the hair and how she is going to look. Trying to get her whatever she wants so we may go shopping this weekend and see if she wants to look at wigs or other types of head covers. We'll see!
Other than bad cramps and constipation all has been pretty good. Who has tried the Claritin pills for the day after shot? That was pretty hard on her for a few days...
Have a good weekend!! -
John - my brothers best friend has been fighting Luekemia for 10+ years and the first thing he told my brother to tell me was about the Claritin. I go for my first infusion soon and I figure what the heck it can't hurt and if it helps great. btw - you're a great guy!! We all realize this is really hard for our guys so it's nice to have one on the board that we can show our appreciation to. Hope everything continues to go smoothly for Annie.
-
I made it through the week after Monday's chemo #2. Nausea was worse this time and had vomitting one night and the dry heaves the next. It would have been better if I'd taken phenergan earlier, but frankly I wasn't ready to be knocked out. A little more discomfort and whala I changed my mind. I am much better today. On the upswing. Whew!
-
I feel a burst of tears coming. Feeling super queasy. Haven't really eaten or drank much today so the gagging from having to vomit on an empty stomach is horrible. My hair is really shedding a lot. I have a few bald spots. I wish I was as brave as you ladies to take the plunge and shave it off. Maybe I can tomorrow if I'm feeling better.
John, I understand how she feels about the hair. I hope she feels better. Tell her to take it easy and not overdo it. -
Stacie - are you trying to work thru this? Just wondering since I'll be trying to.
-
Hugs Sade. We'll get thru this together. Remind me I said that next week, ok!?
-
Lol @ IsHarvey, I most definitely will! Huge hug!
