Link Between Breast Cancer Resistance And Timing Of Soy Consumption
This one is 3 weeks old but I didn't see it posted here before (or I missed it if it was). Given all the interest and controversy about soy, I think it's quite interesting. It seems to suggest that soy consumption is good if you start consuming as a child and continue all your life, but soy consumption can be harmful (relative to BC) if you only start consuming as an adult.
This supports the concern that many of us here, and many in the medical and scientific communities, have about the fact that most of the positive soy studies have been done on women in Asia who've had Asian diets from childhood. The applicability of those results to women who've grown up on Western diets is often stated as a question and concern.

I read a different article about this study (which was done on rats). I find rat studies interesting but not sure I'd change my behavior because of it. I don't eat soy for other reasons

Jesus, are they kidding with this??!!
First they induce breast cancer (yes, in a rat)...so that is NOT saying that soy causes it...something else caused it. Then they supplement with ONE COMPONENT that MAKES UP SOY, and then they see how tamoxifen reacts with the supplement at various times.
HOW in the world does this translate to anything? It states if you are taking tamoxifen AND taking a genistein supplement, your tamoxifen may not work..unless you are a rat, asian and started soy from baby-hood. What about the rest of us? Taking a whole food, not taking tamoxifen and already dx with BC?

I believe that the message is that soy is ok in moderation......from foodstuffs - but NOT from supplements.
Phytoestrogenic foods act like tamoxifen and can therefore be beneficial to those of us with ER+ bc.
