Hi, I just had a unilateral (left) MX with axillary dissection. Still waiting on pathology results. I just feel so sad today. I wish I could go back to when life was normal. I am really active. I have three little kids and I just want to play with them and enjoy the great weather. Instead, I have a fanny pack with JP drains and will spend the summer/fall doing chemo. How do you survive this? It sucks.

The only thing I can offer you is that you will draw on your past experiences and things that you have learned to get through this.  One doctor said to me, "this is only a moment in time"  I thought, " are you crazy???"  I realized that what he meant was that the way I was feeling was only a moment in time.  I went through a form of chemo 10 and 5 years ago (not for BC) and I know that the initial shock was always the worst.  This goes for the first days of my  BC diagnosis too.  It does suck.  I'm sorry you are going through this.  I can only imagine, as I only had one child.  Hugs to you and your kids and family.  Sally

Hugs!  Many of us can relate.  I can tell you that once you get past treatment, life gets better.  I was DX in Dec 2010 when my son was 4.  I thought I would never get through everything.  I am done with reconstruction and chemo....life is back to normal and is better than ever.  Just tell yourself it is temporary.  It will come with emotional highs and lows but it will get better.  Hugs!

It does suck and I am sorry you are going through it now. There are wonderful women here who totally get where you are right now so come back for support/info as you need it.This is the time that you need to put yourself first and let yourself recover Just remember that you are doing this so you can be with your kids for a long, long time. Sending hugs your way!

Mamacath, you may find it helpful to join the April 2012 All Surgeries thread in the Surgery - Before, During and After forum. The month-specific threads are great places to connect with members who are going through exactly what you are.

Hi mamacath! I'm a single and just 34. Its been less than a week since my surgery. I know how it sucks. I guess the best we can do now is think of the things we can do after this drains go out and after chemo. Im making a "to do and experience" list. Little things like doing pilates, visiting this and that, to look forward to after this. Make this "uugghhhh" experience is gonna be over soon. Hugs and prayers....
