post treatment MRI, Bi RADS 3

Options

hi- I just had my first post treatment MRI. I was really hoping for good news, something to celebrate, time to move on.

Well, I almost got that, but not quite.

I have 2 small foci- 2mm and 3mm- right next to the surgical area. They are rated Bi-Rads3, "probably benign".  The radiologist recommends MRI follow up in 6 months.

I don't think I can wait 6 months to see if they grow or not. I understand they are probably benign, but my inclination is to get them biopsied, now, and get the worry over with.

I have been thru 15 months of treatments- surgery, chemo, rads, Herceptin- I need some closure if at all possible.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

thanks so much-

Turtle.

I had exactly the same thing. Birads 3 just means that you likely just have architectural distortions from the surgery.  That's what caused mine.
I would suggest a nice, long talk with one of your oncologists - my rad onc ordered my MRI, so he was the one who got to peel me off the ceiling. After a couple of weeks, I pretty much forgot about it - and the 6 month follow-up diagnostic mammo remains the only post-surgery test that didn't require extra images.

Went thru the same thing with DH - he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer 2 months after that epic diagnostic mammo. His first follow-up CT had a track-and-follow thingie. Six months later, we both exhaled, when doctor called with the all-clear.

They are just overly cautious with us, that's all.
