I wasn't at all sure which forum to put this in...

I have been in a very contemplative mood today.  I find myself really consciously thinking about the serious life changes that I have been through since the dx.  I keep thinking about the meaning of life...no, the meaning of my life...and what I want from the rest of my days.

As I was thinking about all of this, there were three songs that impacted me deeply.  Two made me feel happy, one made me cry.

I thought it would be wonderful to share the songs that move us...

So, here goes...

First, there was Delilah, by Queen.  It just is silly and reminded me to chill out a little.

Then, there was The Dog Song, by Nellie McKay.  Maybe the point of life is really just to walk in the sunshine with my dog (and my children and my husband and my best friend...:).

Then, the Weavers, Kisses Sweeter than Wine.  That brought me to tears.  The value of our life, when all is said and done.  Definitely worth a listen...and the tears.

I would love to hear what songs speak to others out there...

Claire

Claire, Thank you for starting this thread.  One of my favorite songs is "You Are Loved" by Josh Groban.  The lines, "Don't give up. It's just the weight of the world" inspire me. I also like "Any Other World" by Mica. He says "Say good-bye to the world you thought you lived in." That is what we have to do after a BC diagnosis, but sometimes we find a good new world, especially when we find new friends like our BC sisters here.

    Yeah!!

War of My Life by John Mayer was a great one for me as I was going through the worst of things.  Here's a link for a YouTube video.  Hope it works.  Thanks for sharing some great music!

Seasons of Love from RENT. Echoes by Dar Williams. How We Love by Beth Nielson Chapman. Songs like these help me stay focused on what gives me purpose now and what I hope will be my legacy...sooner or later. That focus and the music bring me a lot of joy and breast cancer takes the backseat. October

BTW, Beth Nielsen Chapman wrote How We Love out of her struggle with breast cancer. Depak Chopra posted it on his "what I am listening to" list recently.

Blessings by Laura Story. The line, "What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near" brings me to tears....I think about all the nights I laid awake after my diagnosis, and about all the nights now that I wake up in the night and can't get back to sleep.

Lost in My Mind by Head and Heart.  You Tube link above.  This is my theme song.  I heard it right before I started chemo and it sucked the air right out of me.

"Put your dreams away for now, I won't see you for some time ..." and later "Don't you worry, don't you worry, don't worry about me".

My husband and I sing this together, it is always well received.  It makes me feel strong.

This thread was a great idea.  Music feeds the soul.

I am really pleased you all are sharing songs!!  Yay!!

I am really pleased that The Dog Song is a hit!  I have to credit my best friend with introducing me to that song.  She is the best friend anyone can ever ask for and has been there for me like no one else ever has through thick and thin, including bc.  She is wonderful.  And when I listen to that song, I think of my dog, the sun and most of all of her.

I love a lot of the suggestions...I am really glad to be reminded of RENT.  I will get Seasons of Love on my iPOD tonight...:)

CLC...Rhymn and Roots?  But of course!!!  I want to stay over night this year. I love zydeco dancing and the two step..It's always OK for a man to grab a woman to dance, a woman grab any man, a woman to grab a woman, dance alone.... well you get the picture!  Here's one of my favorite groups from there.

check out the 6 string fiddle.!

I played violin from age 7-21, then stopped for a long time.  I never play classical anymore, just fun stuff with a group of other (very non-proffessional ) fiddlers

I love the dog song!  My grand-dog makes me so happy.  I am perfect to her!  Thanks for starting this thread!  :)

This song from the duhks makes me happy.  I better stop.  I've had way too much coffee!

Sally...I am impressed...the violin seems tough.  I have no musical talent at all.  My father was a pianist...he managed to make a living in cocktail lounges in the 50's and 60's in NYC...so I have some appreciation for what it means to be a musician...but no ability at all...

Those duhks are something else!  Thanks for sharing...:)

I hope you all are having a wonderful evening...

These songs are not related to my DCIS but are about people I have lost.  I cannot bear to listen to them.  First is, Wind Beneath my Wings, about my mother. And also Pal of my Cradle Days, an old Irish song and also about my mother.  Then, Dance with my Father.

I find that when one is going through an emotional period, every song, no matter how trite, has profound meaning.  Best to listen to instrumentals.  I can't think of any songs that make me feel better but I will have to look up that dog song.

I've had a few on my iPod that I've been listening to over and over (9-yr-old son complained today, "Can we listen to something else?").

"Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" - Kelly Clarkson

"Shake It Out" - Florence and the Machine

Then I had a few on a playlist for my biopsy (breast center said they'd play whatever CD I wanted), called "Biopsy's Best".

"Last Mango In Paris" - Jimmy Buffett

"Viva La Vida" - Cold Play

    "Forever Young" - Bob Dylan

"Islands in the Stream" - Dolly and Kenny

I have more, but they start to lean a little towards tongue in cheek! ;-)
