Sending prayers and warm, gentle hugs to our Monday girls: rtnyc, longislandmom, doulamom, mamabee! It's finally here and you will see what we meant about the waiting being worse than the surgery. Remember, for you, it will be like time-lapse. It's not like you will actually be aware of the surgery as it is happening whether it is 3 hours or 12 hours. Just getting through the morning is all you need to worry about. :)

Also sending warm thoughts to all of the ladies going in this week: Lisamarie (extra hug- proud of you!), Vegan Gal, Gma10, CityFi, Nighnurse & Karina!

Dianarose, I am heartbroken about your new diagnosis. Just remember that you are not alone. We are all here for you every step of the way. Sony, I am sorry you had to go in again. Glad it sounds like they they were on top of correcting the situation, though. :)

As for me, I am 12 days out from my BMX/DIEP. I had six drains that were taken out on day 8. It could have been sooner if my appt with my PS was sooner because there was not much coming out at all. (For the person who asked about the brazillion wax helping with drain removal: in my case I had been shaved in that area after i was put under for surgery, so there was no problem with hair pulling.)

I still have pain when I go more than 6 hours without meds, but I am going to try switching to Tylenol at least. Still a very irregular pooper, too, which bothers me a lot. Hoping switching to Tylenol will help with that, too. I am still sleeping in my recliner because sleeping on my side makes my stomach incision hurt. I am s-l-o-w-l-y getting back into helping around the house, light-duty only. Nothing that involves reaching or lifting/moving heavy objects, but that still leaves a lot I can do. I don't do too much at any one spurt, either yet.

I have my first meeting with my Oncologist on 5/1 (tentatively). If I remember right, there is a bone scan and a few other tests in my near future, and we will discuss chemo. I haven't heard anything about my Oncotype score, and was unable to find anything about it in my pathology reports. I am definitely going to ask them about if and when I will get that.

You ladies had me laughing about the "boobs smaller than your stomach" remarks and how it's not a good look. Even with my DIEP, my proportions are off because of the smaller chest size (I was a DDD and now I'm a C cup) and the swollen stomach (probably from constipation!) I am sort of looking funny myself. Hoping everything settles out ok.

I'm with all of you heading into surgery today and this week!

    Hi all

The nurse came round and took my drain out today, it's still very sore in that area though. This afternoon I went for a walk at the park, I was tired afterwards.

I don't know how you women with recon or double mast are coping, I had left mast, no recon yet and while not unbearable it's still quite hard.

Good luck to all those having surgery this week, this time last week I was in hospital and thankfully you seem to get through it ( if I was a man I'm sure it would be another story!!).

Hi My SS's . . . I haven't posted in forever . . . I'm so ultra behind . . . spent the weekend with my girl-possie . . . we had my big Boob Voyage party Saturday night . . . 16 of my closest friends . . . waaayyyy too much wine, food, song, craziness . . . we even had a Tarot Card Reader . . . we partied until 2:30am . . . a few of the "boys" even joined us at about 1am . . . it was soooo great. Then we went out for Sunday brunch . . . and Sunday early dinner . . . sat and ate and talked. One fun thing they did was each person bought a bra of their choosing . . . I had to pick which bra belonged to which person . . . and then one of the girls is bringing them all to a woman's shelter . . . it was such an amazing idea. Along with the chocolate tasting, the boobie cupcakes and the general funness of it all . . . I haven't been that hung over in years . . . . . . . . no better way to say goodbye to my boobs!!

oooh, Mardibra.  Must have been scary!

I know what you mean, my balance is off too.  Why is that?  I am not even taking pain meds any more.

    But, yahoo, drain out!

Mardibra- Great about the drain coming out. So glad you didn't break anything-that's all you'd need. I do those kinds of things every now and then and I haven't even had my surgery yet. Margaitas do provide for a better excuse though. I find it inspiring that you are less than 2 weeks out from your surgery though and feel good enough to go out to a restaurant. That's encouraging-thanks!

VeganGal- that was a really unique way to give the "ol girls" a sendoff. Sounds like alot of fun! Best wishes for a speedy recovery from your surgery

I'm so envious of those of you who have already had your surgerys. Hope all is going well for everyone.

Plymouth and Mardibra- I am glad I am not the only one with a balace problem lately. I thought I was going crazy.

The good news is that my pathology came back and I had another drain removed today (the one left in should be out by the end of the week or next Monday). The path said the nodes and margins are clear on the left side. YAY!  And, the margins are clear on the right (prophylactic) side. YAY!

The bad news is that they found cancer on the right side that wasn't visible on any of the scans. There was a 1cm tumor at the deep margin (near the muscle) at 12:00 on the right breast. The odds of this happening were a 1-2% chance that cancer would be found in the opposite breast - maybe I should play the lottery now. But, it was removed and the margins were clear. The doc told me it was a good thing we did the prophylactic mastectomy because we wouldn't have known about that tumor until it was much larger.  The tumor on the left side was also bigger than originally thought but removed completely.

The ugly is that since they removed the tissue the right tumor was in, there is no way to tell if it spread to the lymph nodes because there is no way to tell as to which lymph node that tumor was draining.  So, now I am facing removing all of the lymph nodes on the right side or leaving the nodes and treating them with chemo or radiation.

    Cancer SUCKS!!

Happy for the good, sorry for the bad Keo.

I have read that there is some work being done on doing SNB in patients even after mastectomy, maybe you want to ask your surgeon to refer you to some one who is working in that area?

keonghi- I'm doing the happy dance for getting the compression bandage off but boo for those right nodes.  I am assuming you'll be meeting with your oncologist very soon to help you decide what to next.  Meanwhile, keep healing so you will be ready for the next phase of treatment.  HUGS to you!!!

Keonghi, I'm glad about the good but sorry you have to be in such a state of limbo with the right side. Is there no other type of test-petscan or anything like that that shows if nodes are positive or negative? That's the kind of thing I'm uncomfortable with; that the prophylactic side won't be so prophylactic after all. Like you said, it's great though that they found it while it was still small .
