How flexible is the timing of radiation after excision

I have some really important work obligations for which I have to travel out of town on June 16 and July 2-8. My re-excision surgery is Monday.

I can get to both if they start the radiation 5 weeks after the excision and do it for 5 weeks, and allow me to miss the June 16 treatment.

 Is that ridiculous?

 Unsafe?

I was told that I could wait up to 3 months to have the radiation after my lumpectomy, but that was the absolute limit.  I am also a DCIS/Grade 3-er.  Once I start radiation, I don't want to compromise anything and will not miss any treatments.

I remember thinking much like you before my radiation.

It took 3 lumpies for me to get clear margins so my little plan to get all done over the summer, well,it was blown away

but the thing to focus on is getting better

it may have taken longer than I expected by 4 years out and I am still clear

I don't know what the right answer is but I did notice that here in Canada, the radiation treatments are 5 days per week -- and they are closed weekends and holidays.

So obviously they don't worry too much about an extra day here and there...

Due to a bout with cellulitis I did not start Rads until 14 weeks out. They had originally extended it out for me by 8 weeks due to a Prearranged Disney Cruise, so I would imagine you will be fine with your extended request. HOw is your staph infection doing? I recall you had posted some concerns you had about having a secondary surgery while healing from the infection.

    I hope all went well.

I had my second excision today. No sign of infection. what a relief.

I am hoping the site heals quickly now so that I can get on with RT soon. I was working 18 hours a day after the last one. not this time!

Good to hear. Your job sounds like what mine was like. I worked from home and worked a gazillion hours a day. It's time for you to heal now. I found a good vegan protein powder that I drank for breakfast to speed up the healing. I don't always like a full breakfast so this was a good substitute.
