Medi Products
Does anybody use Medi garments? My PT was excited at our support meeting last night about there products. They are now making sleeves at an angle so they come up on the shoulder more. She had attended a demo and was really impressed with what they are starting to offer. She also said they had a new way of adding the silicon dots so they didn't make you feel as hot. What else she mention I can no not remember.
Just curious. LOL I want be able to get new stuff until August.

Kittty, sounds promising! I don't have personal experience with these products but look forward to any new info. An angled sleeve sounds very logical!
How's the LE in your lowers doing?
-
It is not doing well in my left leg. Despite my Dr. saying not to use my hand to put the compression on I could not stand it any longer and started back Wed. My knee pain has improved but not gone. I have fluid that builds up just below the knee. Probably lol if I washed my garment it would help but with it being streatched out I can at least get it on with out much tugging on my surgery hand.
When I see him in May and hopefully he will release me until the next surgery, my PT said to come in then and we would get it back down. Hand and arm look pretty good. I wore my sleeve today and wrapped my hand for as long as I could stand it. My larger size glove should be in next week...it shipped today.
Hopefully somebody knows something about these new items. She also mention a shirt and that if you had swell spots, they would sew pockets in it so you wouldn't have to struggle to get them in the right place. One other thing I remember her saying is that if you couldn't stand the material they would line it with silk. I really want to give them a try.

Kitty, I use medi 95 gloves to "spell" my custom Juzo gloves.
Binney and I were invited guests of Medi at a conference last year when they were rolling out their new chest compression: at that time, the fabric was too stiff.
I really like the people at medi and they are very open to listening to us and working with us. I really like the medi 95 fabric.
RE: leg LE: I'm giving a talk to the gyn oncologists, and had focused on upper extremity, and am adding in leg, and legs are TOUGH. And way understudied.
We were very impressed with the head of the medi USA and his committment to research and patients.

Kira that is great that you are going to talk with GYN Oncologist. so many of us ER-PR Positive people do have Hysterectomies. The chances are always there and if more would recognize maybe treatment would get started sooner.
My PT just went to this conference. I may give it a try and see what they are like in the fall. She too was very impressed with the companies willing to work with each patients need.
My Pt also said they were trying to get a program started in my hospital that every BC patient goes home with a sleeve on to see if it helps in stopping some of the LE from happing. Something about being part of a study.

then I'm quite thankful that my VA hospital has every one meet with the LE program before any surgery where the Nodes are involved. measurements are taken pre-surgery and we're provided with sleeves, gloves, pulley equipment, etc. not a study, just standard protocol for preventative purposes

Galsal - Is it Bay Pines you go to? I'm a native Floridian but it's been quite a while since I lived there. Bay Pines is the only VA I remember being in the area when we left there.
That's not what's done at all VA's. I was out-sourced to the local Cancer Center for all my TX and surgery. Actually, I'm only the 2nd woman with LE from mast. that my VA LE guy had dealt with. VA has been great about getting me anything I need(ed). Wig, prosthesis, bras, day garments, night garment, FlexiTouch machine, I need it I get it. I could not ask for better care than I've had through them and with them for many years but I've only dealt with Black Hills VA. -
I wonder if the VA;s are so good because Nicole Stout is based in the VA system in Bethesda? She's the one who did the study of prophylactic use of sleeves for 3% volume increase. There was no control arm, so it's not a perfect study, but it seemed to help prevent progression of ?early LE vs. post op swelling into LE.

I've been wearing medi 95 sleeves & glove since Dec 2010… actually not wearing the glove since the fall per LE MD. Seeing if I really need it. I do find them a bit hot but I need a long sleeve so these fit well. I initially was fitted with a sleeve too short and with those silicone gel thingies. I don't need the silicone (I have thin arms) and found them irritating to my skin. The glove actually is too short in the fingers for me but I don't seem to swell there so not a problem.
I wear the left sleeve all day. Right I wear when strength training and air travel.
I did try the gauntlet (not in 95 style because they don't make it). It was awful with no compression. Exchanged it back to the glove right away.
I have not tried any other brands. These were the ones my BS ordered for me.

Thank Lago. I am really intrested in the angle on the arm because most of my arm swelling is in that area. with stopping at the axila it doesn't get the area that I puff. I am willing to try. I also think it would benefit the leg since the bulk of the swelling is in the back and a smaller ankle. They could pad that area so it doesn't slide down and stay rolled up around the ankle.

KittyD I swell in my lower arm just below my elbow. It used to reach all the way to my wrist but since I started wearing the sleeve it never seems to reach my write… I can always see my veins/tendons in my wrist area now. My arm also feels better when I wear the sleeve.
BTW I do exercise daily including upper body strength training every other day. I'm using mostly 5 & 7 lb weights but on a few exercises 10lb. My left LE arm is definitely weaker but I'm also a righty.
