Second time around

I went for my 6 month mammogram on Monday and my breast specialist became concerned about a small spot near my scar from my lumpectomy. They assured me that it was probably nothing but they still wanted to do a biopsy.  I just received the news today that it is in fact a recurrence. I am seeing my oncologist on Monday and preparing for battle against this awful disease.    I really thought this would not happen again.

I am so sorry you are facing this again. I have had Ned for a year and a half, but have let those fears overwhelm me lately. At least the mammogram showed it. Mammograms never showed mine, and they felt it was there for a couple years before I found it. Saying a prayer for you.

Thanks for the prayers.  I am scared more this time than the last two.  I also had kidney cancer at the same time as my last breast cancer diagnosis. I took the more aggressive approach in my treatment because I hoped it would prevent this. I did not ever want to look back and say what if.   Do not let the fears rule your life.   Just enjoy every moment that you are given.

    Hello BabyRuth,

I'm sorry to hear that you're facing this again and so soon. I really hope this is just a blip in your recovery and that you'll get back to NED quickly. Once you've met with your onc and know more about what your tx plan will be, it will get easier to cope with this news, as you focus on getting on with tx and beating this again.

    Good luck and keep breathing,

    Angelfalls xx

Yes, deep breathing helps. Have a great weekend. Where ever you are located, hope your skies look better than mine right now. Naturally I need to clean up the patio. Friends coming Monday morning. I will not let fears rule me today.

    Thanks Angelfalls-still breathing so far!

    Hi madpeacock-waving back at you!

I went to see my oncologist yesterday and she was as devastated as I was by the biopsy results.  I will be getting  some scans done later this week to help with the staging and then I will consult with my oncologist again to figure out the treatment.  I am hoping and praying for good results!  Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, I am only thinking happy thoughts!

BabyRuth, I'm so glad I read your message as I've been on the same path as you!  First I had breast cancer in 2009 and went through 2 mastectomies plus chemo.  Then in Feb 2012 due to pain in my leg and back my oncologist ordered a spinal MRI and they found a huge tumor on my kidney.  I'd had NO symptoms and have since learned that most kidney cancer is found by accident.  I had my left kidney removed Feb 27th.

The MRI also showed spinal stenosis and herniated disc.  Figured I'd deal with the kidney cancer first and then see the spine ortho after my first scans scheduled June 4th.  However, my back was really bothering me so I made an appt last week and I was told I need back surgery (fusion).  I want to get it over with so I'll be going in for surgery (2nd in 2 mos) next Monday.

I don't know of anyone else who has had both breast and kidney cancer--both being primaries.  I'll send you a PM.

I'm so sorry about your new recurrence.  You can do this!

    HI Denali

I will be have a mastectomy .  Did anyone have immediate reconstruction and if so how long before they start chemo.  I hear that the reconstruction recovery time is approximately 5 weeks.

Not sure I will do it but don't want to be sorry afterwards.

Thanks anyone for your help.  I am still getting a second opinion this week.

I really need some major help. I had breast cancer a second time. I had reconstruction using the Latimaiss dori muscle from my back. It has been a year and my side feels like it has a band around it at all times. I have issues with my arm function and movement.  It hurts and I have been to two different PT. I am wondering if this is normal. It is it not, then who can help me? My doctor said I need to adjust to the new normal. What are my options? Do all women have the same feeling with this muscle?? i also have scar tissue that hurts. I had hoped it would go away. It has been a year April 9. I would like to hear other womens experiences. Do I have to live this way my whole life??

I  do not know if people are aware that cancer cells are found in the breast can also be anywhere in the body. Removing the breast is not really a cure. My doctor said It was a cure, however, it is not.

I went to Burtongoldberg.com and saw his videos about cancer.
