Do you mean a fatty necrosis after surgery and radiation?  A fatty necrosis is benign and is the fat cells that were damaged.  A fatty necrosis can be difficult to tell from a tumor and many times they will biopsy to check.  i had a fatty necrosis right after my treatments along the scar line and they biopsied it.  If it is a fatty necrosis, that is wonderful news because it is not harmful.

I had necrosis reported in my core biopsy pathology. According to my doctor, this meant that there were dead breast cancer cells within the tumor.  This could be from it growing so fast it cut off its own blood supply.  It actually freaked me out when I started researching it, so be wary of Dr. Google.  My doctor said that didn't change anything regarding my treatment options.

I think the word "necrosis" pops up a lot in the pathology reports of those with grade 3 bc...Doesn't seem to be an issue that will affect your prognosis from what I have read...I know every feature of my pathology report was a cause for alarm, and I had that scarey word appear too...but I am fairly sure you can relax about that issue...best wishes, P

I have fat necrosis, which is alarming, however, not with IDC.  Just from a previous surgery in March.  It is large, and tender.  So I will be interested in the replies here.
