Ladies in waiting, I wish you could have been with me during my surgery day. You would have been surprised at how smoothly everything went and how it seemed anticlimatic compared to the anticipation..pain is 4 on 1-10 scale at its worst. Just got up to take nucynta and valium, so off to la la land forc me. I've had more pain.after root.canal. well, that's my.3 am peptalk.

Tender hugs to you.....Valium huh? You made it to the other side!!!

Little pain? Lucky girl!!! Like I said before when I had mine BMX/DIEP flap recon,

It felt like I was beat up with a baseball bat,

Because I am already on oxicodone 15 mg, for my four degenative disk in my lower back, the hospital pain meds wasn't working.........

I wish they would have given me Valium! lol

Welcome to the other side !!!

Yesterday was day 8 post-op and I was able to sleep on my side. It took awhile to get comfy, but it was so nice. The sorest spots are where the 3 drain tubes came out. Still feels like a bad burn. Ice really helps numb it. I have a ton of appointments this week, MO, LE Therapist, RO, Surgeon, and my reg. doc. It is a lot to cope with mentally. I have to make a lot of decisions. I wish I had a crystal ball. Still waiting for the Oncotype score to be back. Stage IIIa or not, I think it will show me which direction to go.

Glad everyone seems to be doing ok.

LisaMarie - although it was a pretty easy experience, Im not sure that would have mattered to me before I had the surgery.  I still would have been stressed.  But, I wish you calming thoughts anyway.  Before you know it, you will be counseling others about how easy it was!

Just called Genomic Health and they said they overnighted my Oncotype scores to my MO on the 18th, but would not tell me the results. My appointment isn't until 4/30 and I thought about calling, but decided to stay in denial a bit longer. That is one thing I am good at.

VeganGal- Glad mother nature arrived before your surgery. I got mine the day after and it was tough.

Plymouth- yours and all the other words from the ladies on the other side are really so wonderful.  i am two days away (monday) and pretty much a wreck.  Running around doing last minute organizing, shopping, work conference calls etc...  still have a runny nose-- not sure if it is allergy or the end of my cold/sinus infection. ugh.   the drag is that since my surgery is monday, i have to go to nuclear medicine for SNB shot in morning and won't be first surgery.  probably won't be scheduled until @12- but will find out for sure today.  i am so stressed for some reason about not being able to drink any water (food i don't care about).  anyway, my surgeon promised me they'd hook me up to IV and give me some happy drugs right afte nuclear medicine.  OMG.. i just need this to all be over.  and now--even though i have DCIS/LCIS-- the anxiety about some nasty surprise turning up in Path is really getting to me.  amazing how powerful one's mind can be in creating crazy.  i am cranking up the new age music and meditation.  have anotehr massage scheduled for tomorrow.

so happy to hear about all of you on the mend.  can't wait to be on your side of this awfulness!

lisamarie68- Glad you keep posting and not giving into the urge to smoke or drink.  You are releasing a lot by coming here and talking.  Try to give yourself a BC break...... I know you are thinking "are you out of your mind" and "how do I do that?".... you know that before you got your diagnosis, you did do a lot of things and now you are consumed with the BC.  Now is the time to find the person you were before (minus the smoking/drinking) and enjoy just doing.  Try to give your brain a break, even if it's just for a short while--- watch tv, take a walk, wash some clothes, call some gal pals, etc.  I know you are ready to move forward and want to get to the healing stage which is very very positive.   You will be there shortly.   I hope you can feel the hugs I'm sending you now !!!!!  Sending positive calming & healing prayers, thoughts and energy.  You can get through this, girlfriend!!!!

Sorry that some of you are having to deal with yet more dr appts and decisions. Enough already.

For those waiting, know if you take your pain meds and muscle relaxant if u have TEs, then you will probably feel fine. Just walked 1/2 mile outside in sun w hubby.

Down side-my belly now sticks out farther than my chest, a bad look!

Lisamarie, Hi honey.  I wanted to respond to you about the no smoking.  I am a 30 year smoker.  I quit the week after the BC Dx came.  I was worried about lung functon and being intubated for surgery.  I haven't had a cig since 2/14/2012.  Prior to surgery I could have ripped off someone's face for one drag of a cigarette.  Yeah, it was that bad.   Now I have absolutely no desire for a cigarette at all.  At one point in the hospital I actually thought to myself how nice it is, to not be a slave to cigarettes anymore. There is no way on God's green earth I could have gone out for a cig, but I know as bad as my habit was I would have begged my hubby to take me out for one.  Hang in there on the no smoking you will love the freedom!!!!!  I am absolutely happy to be a non-smoker, and you wiil too!!!!!  Praying for you that God takes your desire away.  xoxox!!!

    Hello ladies,

Need to catch up on all the posts soon but really wanted to post for all the woman still waiting knowing all the anxiety you  may have still waiting for surgery.  On Wednesday I had my surgery it Started at 7:30 am took took 5 1/2 hours for BMX with TE expander's, before surgery they gave me a nerve block with a pain drip that went right int my back and after surgery was kept very comfortable, I could control my own pain medication( recommend the block it was wonderful), Have 4 drains  they are uncomfortable but doable kept in the hospital two nights. as for sleeping if I try to lye in bed my chest burns and its easier to be in a recliner chair.

I felt I really  needed to post for you that are all still waiting and wanted you all to know that waiting was the hardest part for me.  Hang in there , you are almost there!  you are all in my thoughts and prayers and soon you will be on the other side.

Plymouth and Jaymee I am thinking of both of you my surgery sisters from the same day that you are both comfortable and pain free and that you have a sense of relief over you that you made it to the other side.

Thanks to all that have been posting right along before and after your surgeries, I took so much information away from and continue to do so, and to whom ever recommended the zip up cotton sweat shirt from target with the inside pockets that I wore home from the hospital today best investment ever!!!! They really hold the drains with out pins or any worries.

Love and hugs to you all, you are all so inspirational!!

Will catch up on post as soon as I get some rest...

kimmygal - Glad you are home and healing.  YAY so glad you got the Target zip up jackets !!!! I found that they were the best drain holders for me and so soft and comfy.  I thought I'd be tired of looking at mine since my March UMX but I'm still wearing mine!!!  Thank you for giving words of support to your fellow April surgery sisters!!!!  Wishing you a speedy recovery!!!!

Hi dear sisters, I too am on the other side.  I had BMX with Diep flap.,Was in surgery about 12 hrs because there was a problem with my veins for the diep flap.  I am allergic  to codiene so I receved tramadol (which did not help at all!) And valium ( which really helped.) To say it felt like a mack truck running over you and then backing up and doing it again would be accurate for me.

I have some things I really want to share about pain management and idiot male doctors but am so tired I will do it later.  God bless you all.  BTW, had surgery Monday and was released today.

    Love, Jenny

Yay Kimmygal and Jayme, we April 18 gals are on the other side.  May you continue to rest comfortably and heal quickly.

For those still waiting, I wish I could take your burden, I feel like an evangelical preaching the ease of the actual surgery vs the agony of anticipation.

Now, if I could only poop....

Glad to hear from you Jenny but sorry you have pain.

Gabs, sorry for your pain too, I know that when you have prexisting chronic pain you have a hard time with acute surgical pain.  I wish you comfort.
