Hello everyone, I am trying to notice the moments of pure joy in my life these days. Today one came watching the dog playing in the sprinkler.

Here is a pic of some of the cats we were feeding from the balcony of the condo in Williamsburg.   I wanted to bring the long haired butterscotch one home, but they were all wild and would run the minute you tired to get near them.  I left cat food at the front office and they told me that one of the housekeepers fed the cats....they really did not look like they were missing any meals.   They said they were contacting someone from PETA to come catch them and hopefully they will tame them and find homes for them..

Marybe, the long haired butterscotch cat is sooo beautiful.  Might I presume that just like me, you will never be doing volunteer work at a local shelter.  I am afraid of how manny cats I would bring home!!

    Marybe,

You inspire me....17 1/2 years....wow!  Were you on tamoxifen if you dont mind me asking?

Yes, pets are great.  My sons GF had just gotten a dog (kya) last year.  Not really sure of the breed...just a mix of everything, I guess.  Anyway, her roomie pasted away (suicide) was in the house.  Poor thing was tramatized for several months.  My husband and I have taken her in to be a pal to our 18 year old black lab/golden retriever. (RIP, July 2011)

Kya is just too funny and has become a great friend for my husband.  I catch him talking to her all the time (sometimes more than me)  She goes to the barn with him at 4am and sticks by his side all day.  She has gotten to be a very good dog with the cattle.

We also have Boots the cat (he also belongs to the GF)  I have recently developed an allergy to him and dont know if we are going to be able to keep him.  It will be hard to see him leave as he always gets up with me in the middle of the night.  Waits for me patiently to use the bathroom and get each of us a glass of water.  then he curls up at the foot of the bed again.

Cindi,   It's been 22 years since my initial diagnosis, then they found that it had recurred in 98 so that is only 14 yrs Stage lV.....but I do feel very fortunate to have made it this long at Stage lV because I know when I first found out about the mets, I thought it was curtains.  You know I used to be really allergic to cats and then I ended up with George even though I never really wanted a cat and I just loved him so much.  Before getting all the dogs he roamed the house and he would end up sleeping with me....one day I woke up and my eyes were swollen shut.   I went to the doctor and he told me I won't tell you to get rid of the cat, but don't sleep with him or be in a closed area with him....I followed that advice and was just careful to always wash my hands after petting him and not to touch my eyes before I washed my hands and we lived happily ever after until he devolped FIP and sadly had to be put to sleep.  I still miss him.
Karen, you are so right....I never could work at an animal shelter....I would be bringing them home with me or else crying a lot at work.

I can't even stand the thought of a turtle getting hit and many times have turned around on the highway to go back and save one that I knew would not make it across the road.  I am feeding that cat up the street a little closer to my house each time in hopes that eventually she can live on my porch.

The long hair butterscotch looks like a Main Coon Cat. Just beautiul. We have a short hair butterscotch that looks like the half cat in your photo!  I itch too if I touch them and don't wash my hands, itchy eyes.

Marybe, you are my type of animal lover.  I leave the TV on for my two cats but not on the Animal Channel for fear Animal Cops will come on.  Cannot watch that SPCA ad by Sarah Macl.( I am blocking on spelling her last name) showing all the animals hurt or abandoned. The last time I went to the shelter to see a Himalayan Siamese, whose owner had to go to hospice, I brought her home.  We were just going to look.  I asked one of the volunteers if it was hard to work there, she said yes, I've been here a year and I have 7 cats and 3 dogs.

I have a two and a half year old Yellow Lab.  He needs a lot of execise.  That means me.  I take him to the dog park, 17 acres of woods and a lake.  I meet a lot of wondeful people out there who love their animals or they wold not go to the trouble of trugging off to the park.  Really keeps your spirits up being in the out doors with the fresh air and sunshine.  I have warm winter clothes (Michigan) so winter is my favorite time of year.  Dogs stay clean.  I think this is why people with pets live longer.

info, I have a 17 month old boxer/lab mix. She keeps me walking. I have conservation land down the street from me so sometimes we just take walks by ourselves. Othertimes we drive to the dog park where all the dogs play together. They have such a great time, it's hard not to be happy watching our pooches have fun. It was recomended to me to walk at least a half hour each day, so it is nice to have the incentive to get out there and do it.

My small dog is too small for the Dog Park. A bulldog decided that Harry was his "woman."   He was so fierce looking we did nothing until the owner caught up with him. Poor Harry was stunned I think.

Ginger thats too bad that the bulldog was aggressive.  Some of the little dogs at the park that I go to give my 65lb dog a hard time. She is always stunned, too. She just looks at me like what?? I want to be their friend. We have learned what time is best to go and which dogs are friendly. Since I am not working I have the choice to pick and choose the time.

Hello fellow pet lovers! I have enjoyed everyone's posts about their furbabies. We have recently lost our beautiful Siamese boy to a snakebite - Maeko was with me every step of the way through tx last year and miss him so much. My husband is taking it very badly - losing a pet is so hard! we have a Siamese sized hole in our family.

The bright spot on the horizon is that we are looking forward to picking up our new baby this weekend. I got very busy searching breeders as it is near the end of the season here and I was lucky enough to find a beautiful red point Siamese boy from a reputable breeder not too far away. My plan to to have two cats for company but it is too soon to push that with my grieving DH. He worries about abandoning a pet in a cattery when we go away on holiday but thinks two would be too much to worry about. In time!! Naming has been a democratic decision - I make a list and the DH and DD have to agree on a name from the list ( my DD has a tendency to come up with some strange suggestions!) so the little kit is saddled with "Taji" which is Japanese for silver and yellow colour.

Taji is coming along just in time as I am going for a DIEP on the 30/4 and need a bed companion during recovery. I could not imagine being recovering happily without a pet for therapy.

    Cheers Robyn

Hi Robyn. Congratulations on finding a new kitten. I know it is so hard to lose a pet, they all stay with me forever. I have had good luck with pet sitters over the years to avoid a kennel.

Enjoy, put up some photos if you can.

hi robyn, i like strange names, also.. Taji is very pretty, i think.. red point siamese, oh my!!when you get her, post a picture..

i am so sorry you lost your other one..

when i lost my "babY" 17 yrs old chiuhau, i was heartbroken. it seemed to take forever for me to get over it. Im still upset i had to move, and leave her grave.. i have her marker here, though..

after a long time, two different friends, not known to each other, got me a chiuahua.. a gitl 1st, from a puppy mill!!!(my gf didn't know any better) she's now 10-12, and went completely blind, from malnutrition, as a young girl.. she does excellent, for being blind, though..even got service dog approved, after training, for my DH impending hearing loss..

we were then "gifted" by another friend, a boy, liver coloered.. he's such ajoy to me!!by my side constantly..

at out dog parks here, they have either seperate walks for 15 lbs and under, or different times..

i never make the dog parks anymore, they just go with me, as i rarely go out, so its their treat.. we're all happy and fat lying around!!!

Love this topic...here's a little about my great dog....Suprised our son when he was 12 (now 21) with a trip to the local shelter for him to pick out a dog for Christmas, best thing we ever did...Got a mix of a big black long hair dog "Jack"..Don't know his real age but he still acts like he is a two year old, maybe because he is addicted to broccoli, has to be in his food every meal and then he takes us over to the fridge a couple times a day for extra...

Yesterday morning, I saw him down on the dock and there was something that looked like a dead fish (a little mullet had apparently jumped too high) anyway Jack appeared to be trying to use his paw and touch it, I looked away for a moment and when I came back, the little fish was gone..I just knew that Jack had pawed (pushed) the fish back into the water....I was so proud of him...Well low and behold when I looked for Jack, he was over in the yard and when I walked over to him, there he was with the little fish and he had eaten most of it's tail....I had to laugh at myself for jumping to the first conclusion, when it comes down to it!!  His appetite was stronger than his compassion....

My husband got big dog a new chew bone. Big dog eats little chunks off of new bone. Little dog eats these and pukes the back up in two places in the bedroom this morning.

Gingerbrew, too funny, though not for furbabbie's mom.  I assume large dog no longer has large bone?

Woke up to feeling this little pressure on my chest and Harley staring me in the face.  I was not ready to get up, but who can resist a face like this at close range?

I'm back from hip surgery - terrible time in hospital and worse time in rehab but I am now home with my furbaby.  When I am incapacitate, all I worry about is him.  I love him so much - I am so glad to be home and I know he is glad for me to get home.

    Cute Yorkie!

    Cute chi's.

In WNY, we are getting a snow storm, a few days ago it was 70  and Sophie was rolling in the driveway.  She usually checks the window before begging to go out, this AM she looked out the window and saw those big, fat snowflakes swirling about.  She went back to bed!

kmccraw, LOL, she got up once to eat and use the litter box, then curled up in an afghan on a chair.  Can't say I got much done either, perfect weather for reading a good book. It is supposed to be in the 40's tomorrow, hopefully it will all melt!
