New Lump after 9 Years NED

Options

Hi

I'm over 9 years NED and usually don't do breast examinations because I'm too afraid of finding something. An area of my breast has been hurting, so I got brave and checked it out. Sure enough I found a small, hard, movable lump between the size of a pea and a marble. I had a mastectomy on the other side and was going to have the other one done a couple of years ago, but never got around to it. I wish I had of.

My yearly mamo is on May 2, but I would rather see my surgeon first to see what she thinks. Getting an appointment with her may be impossible without a referral, and I don't have a family doctor at the time.

I'm freaked out and just want to ignore it. I ignored my first one for 9 months! What else could it be? Has anyone else had a lump which they figured was cancer and it turned out not to be?

Get the mammogram now!  Your doc will want that done first anyway. (Mine always do)

I agree. Get the mammogram! Hopefully it will turn out to be a bunch of hullaballoo over nothing, or just natural changes with time.

Call your surgeon and get on the cancellation list if they can't get you an appointment before your mammo on 05/02. Get pushy and explain the situation if they get fussy.

No freaking out before there is something to freak about. Laughing

I am sorry CurlyGiry but call your surgeon ASAP and get this checked out. I had pain in my other breast and it turned out to be cancer (albeit at an earlier stage than the cancer I had two years ago). This may be nothing - but only a biopsy will tell you this. Please do not ignore this any longer. Unfortunately, after any diagnosis of BC we all need to be super vigilent with our own health.

Please let us know how you get on!

    Karen.

Definitely get it checked out.  I had a bmx in August 2009 and last year found a lump which was moveable.  My surgeon said that it is a good sign that it's moveable, I had surgery to remove it and it was scar tissue.

It's impossible not to worry, but I hope it turns out to be benign. Hang in there.
