    Ladies Awaiting Surgery

    Hey I know how you feel-- anxious, weepy, sad with tension in your muscles and your head just hurts.  I can't guarantee that a really warm shower or relaxing bath , a good cry, hugs from your family, yummy food and maybe a prescription drug to calm your nerves will cure these feelings but they will help get you through them.   It's a mixed bag of emotions-- you want it done and over with so that the cancer is out and you know more facts about your cancer and the future treatment,  and then at the same time, having surgery is a major event for each of you.  Each of you will get through this part of your treatment. 

    Wrapping all in a warm fuzzy blanket of positive, calming & healing prayers, thoughts and energy to help all with their journeys.  Just keep moving forward and push through the fear !!!! You can do this!!!!

    Thank you Lisamarie, having you helps, a lot.  And thank you Melrose, you have been through this and still take time to help us. That is a loving thing to do and I appreciate it very much.

    not long now.....you will be on the other side of surgery and happy that its over!  Try not to stress too much.  The anticipation was worse than the surgery....I promise.

    All,

    I had headaches for 2 weeks before surgery, but none afterwards!

    Tomorrow's surgeries are in my pocket! You will do great! Angels headed your way!

    Plymouth, Jayme, Kimmygal, best wishes for all of you tomorrow!  Stay calm, take deep breaths, and be brave!  We're all thinking of you!  Hope everybody else is doing well too!

    I had my partial mx done at scripps green by Dr Kurtzhals..who is fabulous!!!!! She listens to you and cares about all of your issues. Gave me a great big hug before the surgery..so unsurgeon like but one of the best. She took a chunk the size of my right fist out of my right breast and i still have cleavage..its a little wonky at times, but i still have it! I would recommend her and Scripps Green for any of the Br Ca procedures that involve sharp instruments..the food is pretty good too!

    Hey Indigo!! Yes my sister is a pro at it!! lol

    I haven't been on here in awhile, just been catching up, yes I take hot showers everyday, I'm lucky, my Drs,believes in them,

    Sad to say, I'm having lots of pain, but in not letting it get me down!!

    To day is a week out of my BLMX with DIEP recon,I seen my PS and BS on Thursday ,

    I'll be having chemo and rads, because of the three lymph nodes, came up positive , I was already put under when my BS did the dye test,when she came to speak to my family , my sister had said you could see she was surprised about my lymph nodes,

    I had my tubes out yesterday. My 6'4" BF passed out after the first one. Poor thing. It was a long tube and wrapped around the whole boob and came out just below my arm pit, about 14 inches. It did hurt for about the first 4 inches because he really had to pull hard. I gave up the examine table and gave it to my BF and the nurse took care of him while the doc took the other 2 out from the chair. I had to drive most of the way home, ready or not.

    My path results sucked. 12 nodes, all positive with the dam lobular. It also invaded the barrie we have between our breast  tissue and the muscle. I am so depressed. The doc says there is still a chance of curing me. That did not give me much comfort. I can not deal with chemo emotionally yet or the thought I might die from this. I am so depressed.

    Dianarose- There aren't enough words to say right now to give you the comfort you need right now.   The inital shock will wear off and you know you will be ready to take on what lies ahead for you.  It is one day at a time and one step at a time.  I'm praying you find some peace and calm and continue to heal from your surgery.  Although all of our journeys is unique to each of us, we travel together and support each other with prayer, compassion and love.  GENTLE HUGS to you and lots of positive calming & healing prayers, thoughts and energy!!!!  You are not alone ....

    I'll report from the other side, wish I could post video of the whole thing to take others fears away...

    DianaRose -  I am so so sorry about your diagnosis and for the deep, penetrating sadness you are feeling right now.  sadly, i know my words won't take either away.  scream and cry for sure...but then when you can, prepare for the next steps of this journey.  there are so many women alive with your diagnosis.  you can beat this.  chemo sucks, but all of my friends who have been through it (and that is a good number, sadly), they tolerate it and move beyond it.  you can beat this.  visualize yourself healthy.  fast forward the television flipper in your brain to a happy image and try to keep focused on that. again, sending you prayers and thoughts. xxo

    and to the rest of you ladies...plymouth, kimmi, jayme...see you on the other side. peace.

    Hi all

    Well surgery is over. Was in first thing Mon morning, I got very sick after so only got out of hospital today(WED). Have got 1 drain (a pain). No node involvement so far, good news. Mum's hear with me to help although I feel pretty good. I think sleeping might be a problem, will just be uncomfotable.

    Will get a nurse in every day to help with the drain, they do that through the hospital. I had a shower at the hospital and felt much better after.

    I will find out 1 May pathology.

    Good luck to all that like me have just had surgery and those about to have it.

    I'm scheduled for April 19.....TOMORROW!  Getting a little nervous but extremely glad to get this off my body and me on the way to healing.  I am fortunate (if that could happen) to have been detected early and the cancer is grade 1 and appears to be small.  Unfortunately it is right behind my right nipple and the surgeon said this requires a mastectomy because of the position.  On my left breast, I have two areas of atypical cells that they are going to excise (lumpectomy).  Pray for me and will be sure to keep you up to date. 

    This site has been so helpful.  I ordered three front closure sports bras from KMart yesterday and they will be delivered before I get out of the hospital.  I have my suitcase packed with all of the listed things on one of the other posts and decided to leave most of the reading materials at home.  

    Hope all that had surgery yesterday are doing OK!  Praying for health and happiness for all of us.

    Valerie- good luck tomorrow. I am a week post-op today and 90% better. It is amazing how each day you will get so much better. I hope you don't end up with too many drain tubes. They cause the most pain.

    Aussie- glad you are home. I could even imagine getting sick after surgery. Poor you. One drain tube is awesome though. Mine came out on day 6 and I hope you don't have to keep yours very long either.

    Dianarose, Glad you are feeling better!  That is a quick recovery!  I elected not to go with any of the tissue procedures and I'm going with the implant.  It sounded less complicated and the plastic surgeon said because of my weight loss over the last few years, my tummy was too saggy, lol.  He promised to do lipo and a tummy tuck later on when he is "plumping" my replacement and matching my surviving girl. I'm praying for you and all of the others here.  We are in this together!

    Dianarose, your post ripped my guts out.  I wish I could give you a real hug.  Sending warm and soft cyber hugs to you!!!  I cannot deal with chemo either, but you know if it helps in any way to lessen recurrence, or get you to the cure, you will have the strength to do it.  I am so, so sorry!!!!  We are with you, you are not alone.  :'(

    BF just came in the house and blood was running down his arm. He had a 3 inch gash and it was really deep. He really needed stitches, but insisted I put 4 butterfly strips on him instead. I really don't have the stomach for that type of stuff. It seems like it never ends.

    I keep getting little pain feelings in my breast. I said, gee, my nipples hurt and then I remembered I no longer have any. I will be totally insane if I get through this. I hope I am getting some skin feeling back and not phantom pain.

    I swept and mopped the kitchen floor and did the dishes. It felt good to actually do something.

    Dianarose.  Sit your butt down on the couch with the clicker!  You are not supposed to be doing that.  You are gonna feel like shit!!  Trust me I learned the hard way too!!!

    Dianarose: Stop doing housework! You don't want a seroma or other complication. Act like a man and exercise that thumb with the remote!

    I am jealous that all of your drains are out. I still have 2 of 4 left and they both put out 20 cc yesterday. They must Both be below 20 cc b4 they can be pulled.

    My worst time of day is morning. I cannot change sleeping position and I wake up stiff and sore. I took both pain med and muscle relaxer at bedtime without any relief. I am pretty bruised up still. My left nipple remains purple. Anybody else in this situation?

    Oh Diana - so sorry about your news.  Dont get too freaked out about chemo...it really wasnt that bad at all.  I finishe chemo on 3/1 and Im happy to answer any questions you have.

    Hi all. Went in for my pre-op stuff yesterday. CT Scan, Pre-Anestesia, Pre-Surgical Appts. It was a very long day! Made Monday seem awful colse! The anticipation is killing me and I will just be glad to have it over with, but the thought of being under for 10 hours is a little freaky. And the thought of not putting my kiddos on my lap for a month makes me very sad.
    I'm hoping that everyone is doing well. Prayers for all those with surgeries this week. You are all strong and brave and amazing.
    Quick question.. How often does the pathology report after surgery come back different than the original diagnoses? I have DCIS, but it seems common to hear about finding addtl IDC or other areas of DCIS once surgery is done. Anyone have this happen? It won't freak me out, because whatever they find won't be an issue sense it's been removed already but I was just wondering.

    Doula - here was my first surgical experience with pathology....

    Had a biopsy last September where they told me I had IDC, likely 2cm.  Pathology came back as IDC and DCIS and 3+cm's - hence my recent mastectomy.  Not wildly different but still different.  Im still waiting on the mastectomy pathology.
