Hair Hair Hair - Another question

I used ovation cell therapy for about 4-5 months and I really think that helped my hair get back to normal texture/thickness. I didn't use the shampoo and conditioner that they sell as a set after the first purchase. You can use the cell therapy with any shampoo and conditioner. I'm almost 16 months PFC and still having to work with curls, although not nearly as tight as the curls used to be.

Sorry, I haven't read all of the pages of this thread, but am wondering if there are thoughts on shaving off the remaining little stubbles on the scalp when chemo ends. I'm assuming this is poor quality "almost dead" hair. I think it's left over from when I had my head shaved right after chemo started. Thinking maybe shaving it off at the end of chemo will give it all a fresh start. (in some Asian cultures they shave babies' heads, in theory it's supposed to come in thicker)... Any hair experts out there?
-
Jenlee, about a month after chemo ended, I had grown about an inch of hair. I was feeling good so I tried to color it with what I had always used before BC, Clariol Natural Instints (washes out in 28). The color turned out more orange then brownish red. I couldn't stand it and didn't want to recolor or wait it out so I shaved it off. I figured I could start new and the hair that grew back has been very healthy and the length is coming in pretty even.
I did go to a professional when I had a couple of new inches and paid the big bucks for her to do it right. I still miss my long locks and have a feeling I will still wear my wig when I want to feel more feminine. The short hair works, but it so isn't me :-(.
-
Rockym, I can relate to the short hair just not being you. My hair is long enough to look normal now and everyone tells me how great I look with short hair. It is kind of them to compliment me, but the short hair just isn't me. I am so eager to have long hair again.
-
Jen, I shaved my head a few weeks after chemo ended. I had weird long hairs growing randomly. By shaving it, it grew out more evenly and neatly.

Ossa - sally's product is called "One n Only Argan Oil". They have quite a few products, shampoo, conditioner, etc. I used the oil on my hair prior to being diagnosed and really liked it--my hair was dry because of being colored and hypothryoidism.

mccrimmon324 you look Fabulous!!!! I love it!!!
MamaV that's funny we named our wigs the same name! LOL
Jadegirl I remember looking in the mirror wondering if my hair was ever going to grow back. My last chemo was Oct. 27th 2011 and you can see by my picture that it's a slow process. My hair normally grows very quickly, but we have to remember our hair follicles were empty after chemo. So not only does your follicles have to regenerate, but then I read it takes 2 months to grow about 1/2 in of hair. I am a very impatient person, so it hasn't been good for me. But after 5.5 months I finally have about an inch or so of hair on my head. It came back all gray and white and it is very thick and very curly! I had it colored about 3 weeks ago and I can already see some gray roots so I know it is growing. LOL It is too short to style yet, and it's been difficult for me to get used to going to work and being out in public without my wig. But each day becomes more comfortable. It just takes time.

jeniee i never shaved my head. I had these long hairs around my hiarline that never fell out. I liked keeping them cause in a hat it looked like I had hair. As soon as I had full coverage over my entire scalp I went to my salon and had all those long hairs trimmed so everything was eveend out. Most of those long hairs actually had started to jsut break off as the new ones grew in. It's a year and four months now and it all grew in nice and even and I ahve not cut it again since. I am thinking I need a trim now though as I am seeing some split ends.
-
My new hair was on the dry and dull side. I bought a moroccan argan oil conditioner at walgreens that has worked very well to bring out some shine. It smells great too.
-
I never shaved my head either. There were a few long ones that I trimmed once I went topless.
BTW here is my hair transition link for the newbies. I wear bangs are longer and fuller now but still keep it short… so no updates from December: linky
-
I went clothes shopping yesterday and because of the short hair, I couldn't find anything that seemed to work. I keep trying to tell myself that my short hair looks fine and I can do this. I've even styled it a little, but so far I haven't reached the acceptance level yet.
I'm off to see about some new shirts today, but the wig is back on. It's comfortable and looks good, I just wish I had more self confidence to rock the short hair :-(.
P.S. I never had a confidence issue before BC. Always wore what I wanted and did what felt right.
-
Rocky, I have started wearing scarves. It seems to help with the bareness of the ultra-short hair and adds some color and interest.
-
Hi -- Same here, I have 11 Taxols behind me and one to go, which means 13 weeks beyond A/C. I have about the same amt as Dechi, and I don't wear a wig any longer. I do wear scarves, but I don't feel the need to cover the whole head. It's a wonderful thing!!
-
The keratin went in fine, my hair took to it and hopefully it will stop looking like a dandelion, but I still can't imagine going without a baseball cap or something. Maybe in a month or 2 when my bangs hit my eyebrows, but it still feels so short...
-
My hair seems too frizzy. And it it at a weird legth, not short enough to be chic and smoot and not long enough to style. I look sill in a hat and I am frustrated. And when I come my hair straight like bangs I feel like Herman for " the munsters"

Four months out from chemo, I've been meaning to post a picture. A friend caught a shot of my son and me attending last weekend's Democratic Party Caucuses here in Wyoming. It's going to be the first election in which he can vote, by the way. He's growing so fast ... and, apparently, so is my hair.
-
Charles, congrats on the hair and on the very nice-looking kid you got there. You are looking very spiffy.
-
Charles-hair looks great! Can't wait for a little more length so I can go topless! LOL. My son laughs when I say that. Made him nervous the first time.....
-
As it is on the beach, I found it much easier for me, as a man, to go "topless" during chemo. Like I said before, a lot of people just thought I was trying to be hip.
-
Charles you look great. You have more hair than I did a year ago. Handsome son. Nice to know we have another new Democrat voting in the next election
-
Iago, When my wife and I moved to Washington, D.C. to work in the Senate, we used to joke that it was the tipping point and with our departure, the Wyoming Democrat lapsed on to the endangered species list.
Fortunately, we've returned and we're a breeding pair. Philip gets to vote this year. Annika's first election is in 2018. -
Looking good Charles!
-
Wow Charles...this is encouraging !!
-
Wow. Yesterday my DHD (Darling Hairdresser) worked some magic on me. She evened out my scraggly hair and trimmed my neckline and around my ears. Gone are the corkscrew curls on the left side of my head and the cocker spaniel "mullet in the making" going on in the back. I was so ambivalent about getting it cut because it seems like it's taken so long to come in, but she did a fantastic job. Now that it's evened out it really looks much thicker than before. I feel so much better!
-
Charles, You have a handsome son. You must be so proud of him. The two of you look great together.
-
I have a question. When we say however many weeks PFC do we count from when we finished AC (my hair started growing back on Taxol) or when we finish Taxol? Just curious
-
I think most of us count from the time we finish all chemo. With dose dense taxol, my hair didn't start to grow back during treatment.
-
Charles, You look great... I like the no hair on you as well...
Carroll, YOU LOOK GREAT , how did you get through the bad , bad, bad hair days.. my hair is so heavy. It seems like it is growing outward instead of downward.. LOL I have so much hair but when I get a trim they seem to trim to much, my hair is past my ears now but very wide
-
Thanks Tracie I dn't really see any day having hair as a bad day amymore lol. When it was supre short I still wore a lot of hats and headbands in it. I actually had super fine wavy hair before chemo and now it is thicker so I am really enjoying it. The curls are annoying though, especialy when it is humid. I have been using morrocan oil to keep the frizzies down and I blow dry it every day. I have only trimmed it once in the year and a half since I finished chemo. I am starting to see split ends so I think I will have to get a trim. But overall I like it as full as I can get it.

auntienance, good hairdressers are worth their weight in gold! So happy to hear that yours has worked her magic on you.
