Really Scared - Possible IBC Symptoms?

Last night I noticed that my right breast was itchy, so I took a look and there is a patchy pink rash around the scar from an excisional biopsy I had a couple of years ago. There is also small itchy pink bump near it that looks like a mosquito bite. I freaked and immediately thought about inflammatory breast cancer. I put some hydrocortisone on the areas last night and a couple of times today, and there is no change so far. I am really nervous. What are the chances that this is inflammatory breast cancer? I just had a clean breast MRI and clinical breast exam in March. Could IBC develop that fast??

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The likelihood is that you have a rash from some reason other than IBC. Of those DX'd with BC, only between 1% and 5% are IBC. There are many reasons for a rash. See a Dr. for the rash - could be a bug bite.

Yes IBC can develope literally overnight. But if everyone who gets a rash was IBC - then it would far surpass all other types of BC combined in occurance which it clearly doesn't.

There are other symptons for IBC and not all need to be present. I never had a reddened 'rash', heat or pain.

Well, its been 5 days now, and the rash is definitely lighter than it was in the beginning, and it is no longer itchy. However, it is still not entirely gone. There is still a light pink area around my scar, and I'm still putting hydrocortisone on it. I'm still a bit worried that its still light pink. How long does it take for a normal rash to entirely fade away?  Should I be worried that its not gone yet?

Hydrocortozone cream may not be the right cream. You very well could have something going on that requires a different med to handle it.

Thanks for the replies Kicks.  Does it sound like it could be IBC, or just some benign irritation of some kind?  Do rashes usually take days for the pinkness to fade away completely?

As you are already registered with a breast clinic, have them take a look at the rash.  My IBC started with a rash which was deemed to be 'nothing' but then it progressed to inverted nipple and skin thickening so watch out for any other red flags but I would suggest getting it checked out to put your mind at rest.  There are so many different kinds of rashes and mostly we never know what causes them, they just go away on their own.
