When we have radiation treatment for breast cancer, do the technician need to cover the rest of our body, only leave the breast exposed under the rays, like we have X-ray for teeth? Thank you!

My techs uncover the breast to be treated and peak at my sides to check my tatoos.  Then they put a light cotton towel over my breast for the two minutes that treatment takes.  (They offered me my choice between the light cloth and a bath towel, but I'm always warm so I went with the lightweight one.

The reason I am asking is that my liver got exposed and injured in radiation. Thanks for reply.

Mine don't cover me unless it's cool in the room. . .then they offer a towel for the breast NOT  being treated.  Sorry to hear about your liver being damaged, Kuer1.

Always had my jeans on. Breast side was covered with a towel (or on days I was really cold with a warmed blanket, radiation side was uncovered but with a bolus for the first place. The area that was radiated had quite distinct margins - a rectangle from mid chest around to back and up side of neck. I know this because the entire area burned very bad after rads so it was quite evident where all the radiation had hit.

sorry, I just doubt since my liver has been hurt close to the end of radiation that I never had before. Plus when they did treatment, even thy marked, they use eyes to locate. I hope it is not because of radiation. It is just a temperary feeling. Thank you all.

I think you're asking whether there is a protective shield cover like the dentist uses to protect other organs, and there is not. I've not seen one around in the room either. I'd like to think that the radiation is so precise that it is not needed, but I really don't know. They don't cover my area of radiation in any way. I also get the bolus for most of my treatment. They are really targeting my skin so I think that's the reason.
