Sally - I had extensive lymphovascular invasion.  It means cancer cells from the tumor have invaded the lymph and venous system.  I was so freaked out when I saw this on my path report.  I couldn't eat and was a nervous wreck.  My ONC said it is not that uncommon and was one of indicators that chemo is needed.  I got a second opinion and that ONC said it's not something they like to see on the path report, but doesn't mean a death sentence either.

May be others will chime in that had LVI and are further out than I am.

Sally, we're sorry you're faced with this worry after going through a mastectomy too. The subject of lymphovscular invasion has been discussed several times here in the forums, including in this thread:

    http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/5/topic/773676

On the main Breastcancer.org site, the Your Diagnosis section goes through every line of the information found in a pathology report. The Vascular or Lymphatic System Invasion article has more information for you, until you can get more detail from your medical team.

    We wish you well!
