Today my good food choice was...

Millet with tomatoes and chilpolte seasoning. Vit B17.
My colostrum and organic raw milk drink in am with peaches and blueberries, agave, vanilla, probiotics, some of my supplements like noni powder and sea calcium. I drink this and am not hungry for hours.
Tried kamut and that is not good with anything sweet, so going to try with olive oil, chives and garlic tomorrow.
-
Walking past the chocolate cadbiry eggs that are on sale and not buying them. Had lentils w curry powder, cayenne, olive oil, tumeric. Pit this on top of an arugula mix salad. I did have a cherry turn over. I just ask myself," Will I feel better if I eat this?" sometimes I say no and eat it anyway.
-
Ladies, masy I ask you? Do you actually lose weight with healthy diet? Because I do. I thinking sometimes; is it normal OR???????/
-
olgah, I lose about a pound a week (on purpose) but I do have to exercise and count calories as well as eat good foods to do that. I eat the foods mainly because they really make my body feel better. I just started eating this way in September after reading anti-cancer; my diet was just awful before then.
If you are losing too much weight, maybe you should look at your calorie count? There are good aids on the internet to track your intake. I use Myfitnesspal.com and I think there are some ladies on the thread who use other sites. Maybe loseit.com?
Today's good choice is an all organic omega-3 egg frittatta for dinner (no potatoes, just spinach, scallions and red pepper) with a big green salad dressed with lemon juice.
-
T hank you, SAB, where did you read anti-cancer? AND what is frittata? where to get a recipy?
-
Sometimes I wonder if we could make a BCO cookbook - so many good recipies/ideas on here (maybe as a fundraiser for the site?).
I might make that fritatta for dinner - DH is away and I can make whatever i want for myself. Sounds delicious.
-
Hi olgah! Here is a recipe similar to what I do (I leave out the potatoes and the milk, and cut the cheese in half...use omega 3 eggs and organic veggies and cheese if possible.) Basically, it is an unturned omlett! I finish mine off in the oven. There are lots of variations and you can use whatever veggies you have on hand.

Anti-cancer a new way of life is a wonderful book by Dr. David Servan-Schreiber about battling his brain cancer. After his accidental diagnosis he devoted his remaining years to cancer research. He said the pillars of self-care (in addition to your conventional care) are diet, exercise, environment and mind-body connection. I'm sure it is available from Amazon or other online book sellers, and probably in most bookstores. We lost him last summer, but I think his advice is good.
-
Olgah, woops, I think I just posted this on the wrong thread! Anyway I forgot to say use egg whites!
-
HI eveyone, found a new place to eat out at! I had carrot and chard soup! It was wonderful and the entree was grilled veggies - potato, zucchini (fanned out) and tomatoes! If I would have had my baggie of chia seed in my purse I would have sprinkled into the soup!
SAB I've never cooked chia seed? I put in my cheerios with almond milk or sprinkle on salads etc. I've seen a drink with it too, but probably full of sugar....
Olga Whole foods has a frittata "flour" from chick peas. It was so easy to make, just add water and bake! maybe a little oil too. I added the pulp from juicing that day into the mixture. It was great.
As for the weight loss, I ate strictly vegan, no processed foods, no added sugar for 8 months, didn't loose a pound but didn't gain one either. Was still in treatment though. I felt so much better though.
-
Uck, sagina, cooking chia was a failed experiment. Today was an awful food day, but I'm going to try to salvage it with a nice long walk and a fresh salad for dinner.
-
Monday and I'm going to try and cook a few healthy things to have in the house for a busy week. Some mushroom barley soup (maybe olgah's recipe,) split pea soup, curried lentils (an experiment) and some brown rice.
-
I had lunch today at the veggie restaurant my daughter loves. I never saw such an enormous or beautiful "burrito" of whole wheat tortilla folded over green and purple broccoli, green and purple cabbages, orange carrots, white cauliflower, brown rice, beans and guacamole, with a side of salad. I meant to take half home for dinner but it was so yummy I ate the whole thing. I think it must have been about 900-1000 calories (ouch) but what a treat.
-
ok everyone must be on good food hiatus?? like I was all weekend?
Will check in later.
-
Hi Sagina. It seemed too weird to be the only poster! But I've been a good girl
.
-
had a blueberry, strawberry, banana, spinach smoothie for breakfast, and a
hummus, salsa, red bell pepper, spinach sandwich for lunch.
also, tried kukicha tea for the first time today.. not bad!
-
We found this wonderful out of the way place - a bar/restaurant and I love the food. Last night I had a grilled portabella sandwich on whole wheat, with a cup of soup - carrots, leeks, red pepper, garlic and ginger - it was sooooooo good.
-
talapia and roasted veggies - what really made it taste good? my DH made it and it was ready when I walked in the door from work!
-
Green bean and white meat chicken in black bean sauce. Probably too much soy.
Whole wheat couscous with cubed, baked sweet potato and steamed brocolli.
Portabello sounds good Sagina. I'm out of ideas and just put it on my shopping list.
-
I picked up some baby bella mushrooms and will stuff them with multigrain breadcrumbs and a touch of organic mozerrella and serve them with multigrain angel hair. I have about 10 tomatoes in a bowl that must be used, so I picked up some fresh basil and garlic and will dice it all together for the pasta. It's Italian night!
-
mmmm, where's the like button? stuffed mushrooms!!!!!!!!
I made tumeric talapia! with sauted green beans, leeks and mushrooms, with a side of tomatoes and onions drizzed in balsamic vinegar.
-
Sagina I stole your idea again. I made tumeric chicken breast tonight (DH had fish) served over spring greens. Topped it with a mango and strawberry salsa. Dressed it with a lemon and a drizzle of evoo.
-
Hello out there--is that an echo I hear? Well anyway, some of my adventures:
Sprouted bean salad with brown rice.
Rice and veggie stuffed peppers.
Egg white frittata with an apple, nut and cranberry salad.
Grilled sweet potatoes with couscous.
-
Hi SAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm back.....it's been some crazy weeks over here.
I tried a meat substitute the Smart brand, mexican style ground crumbles. Wasn't so bad, and 0 fat, 0 cholesterol....not bad.
While my DH was recouping in the hospital last week, I got to read a good chunk of Anti Cancer. The best immune fighters for breast cancer are listed as garlic, leeks, scallions, and brussel sprouts. He also talks about the tumeric/black pepper mixing with olive oil and how good that is and it's an anti inflammatory. I think I'm eating too many mushrooms, making myself swell.....
-
Sagina- I'm happy to see you, and hear that your DH is on the mend.
I love that book. I don't think it's an overstatement to say it changed my life, or at the very least changed the way I eat!
My daughter uses those Smart crumbles quite a lot. She uses the unseasoned ones to make sloppy joes and chili.
This week's find was Lundberg brown rice couscous. I love couscous but it is generally made with wheat. Lundberg makes a fast cooking (13 minutes) couscous out of toasted brown rice granules. I chose the mediterranean style, and tossed some chicken breast in curry paste. Add a salad and wallah, dinner.
-
I ate A LOT of those Smart crumbles and soy burgers before my diagnosis. A LOT A LOT. Plus I used a soy protein powder for shakes for breakfast. It is all processed soy. I wonder if that level of intake contributed to my highly ER+ cancer. I do not eat ANY of that stuff now - EVER. I do eat tofu maybe twice/month but that's all. No soy milk, no soy burgers or crumbles.
I encourage other ER+ ladies to consider this as well.
-
Oh AmyIsStrong-GOOD POINT!
-
I just finished my supper which was a toasted whole wheat pita stuffed with a salsa made from fresh chopped: mango, vidalia onion, green pepper, red pepper, celery, roma tomato, avacado and crumbled bleu cheese.
-
Uncle Sams cereal. 1 gram of sugar, not bad. Added fresh strawberries. Should have used almond milk, but didn't
.
-
Breakfast was cottage cheese mixture (4T organic CC, 2T Flaxseed oil, 2T freshly ground flaxseed) topped with 1 organic sliced apple sprinkled with cinnamon and a teaspoon of honey. Lunch was a smoothie ( 1/2 frozen banana, 2% organic milk and blueberries) and salad of 1 c Romaine w/flaxoil and apple cider vinegar dressing.
-
NNBBFL are you doing the Budwig diet? I just read about it on the TN thread. How does that taste? with the flax seed oil?
Today I had a been burger for lunch from a burger joint. He left off the patty, so it was like a chalupa on a bun! pretty good, but way too much white bread, going into a carb coma right now....
