Lori--I am 49 had a great bone density test, am premenopausal and on tamoxifen.  Dr. was not sure how insurance would look at it but wanted to give it a try.  I have BCBS and when they called for approval they gave it with no hesitation.

I was 48 when diagnosed/treated and also have great bone density. My health insurance is with Kaiser Permanente HMO, which owns its own treatment facilities and employs its own doctors. Basically, if your doctor recommends a treatment, you get it. My doctor agreed to four rounds of zometa, and there were no questions asked.

    Ellen56 -

I had to whine at my onc for 6 months before he finally agreed to give Zometa a try, and I'm stage IV. Your onc may be waiting for more definitive research results OR may be concerned that insurance would deny coverage for your good bone density.  My density is crap after two rounds of chemo and Arimidex, so perhaps that tipped the scales in my favor.

Ellen 56, you're not the only one stage 3 not on Zometa; I am not on Zometa either.

I don't know. I am on Zometa, have normal bone density and am Stage IIa. My MO immediately put me on it.
