secret plan for DH and me
Our 30th wedding anniversary is next month. Two years ago I got the idea that we should "run off" to Las Vegas and renew our vows at one of those drive-through wedding chapels. I was 21 when we got married and it was the traditional church wedding with family and friends that I'd alwatys dreamed of, complete with a white dress a lot like Kate Middleton's. But DH had always joked that it would have been more fun to run off to Vegas.
So anyway, the idea started after I turned 50 and did my pinup photo shoot as a present to myself. I fell in love retro pinup style clothing. I have little by little been putting things in place: have assembled most of my outfit: a gorgeous purple (my colors were purple and lavender) wiggle dress with a square galaxy neckline and a fishtail pleat in back, a black mini birdcage veil with a purple peacock feather fascinator. I got the dress and accessories custom made from etsy.
Well, between DH's own health challenges (diabetes and nerve damage to his leg so he needs to use a cane), my dx has complicated things a bit. I have no real idea if I can travel at all for the next 6 months during chemo but I doubt it. So I am postponing but not cancelling anything ( no actual reservations made yet, of course).
DH hates it that it's hard for him to get around, but in Vegas you can walk as little or as much as you want and still have fun. I'm not a real big gambler, more of a shopper, so what I'd love to also do is eat great food, take in a couple of shows - like the Dancing with the Stars show, and of course, the vow renewal. And okay, play a few slots too.
I don't have shoes for the dress yet. While it begs for peep- toe stilettos, I can't wear them any more after my bunion surgery. I've been looking for peep-toe kitten heel or flat but so far haven't seen anything wide enough in the toe.
So: if anyone is interested and has suggestions for any of this (oh, yeah, last time I went to Vegas was in 2003), I'd love to see them. This will continue to be our little project until we can go-even if it's this time next year!
Hugs! Indigo

Oh, yeah; I had BMX no immediate recon on 3/21/2012. Obviously my dress will eventually have to be altered because I am not doing DD prosthetics or implants.

I just want to wish you a very happy 30th wedding anniversary. You and your husband are so lucky to have each other. My husband and I eloped to Las Vegas 35 years ago. No regrets at all. Our marriage is still going strong.

Any favotite places to stay? Will rent a car but want to be on the strip.
We stayed at the Trop in '03 and while the value and location were good the place was on the run-down side and we said we'd stay elsewhere in future. But after I found out that the DWTS show is there now, I googled the Trop and I guess it's been completely rehabbed and updated. Looks very nice anyway.
What other long running shows did you like?
I think DH would enjoy the Mob (some kind of museum). -
I went to Vegas about 2 years ago was my first time and I am still trying to plan more trips but had a suggestion. No matter where you stay you can rent a motorized scooter for a few bucks per day. They have plugs in all the casinos to charge them up at no charge so you can pretty much go up and down the strip at your leisure! If your chairs runs out of power or breaks down they give you a number to call and someone will come to your rescue.
I had such pain from RA in my feet when I went to Vegas I almost got one of these to get around. Figured it would make everything faster to get to and I could see more.
As for recommendations, I would go to the light show in Old Town one evening if you get the chance. Those shows are so cool! Also, be sure to wander around in the evening some night, it is just such a different energy on the streets at night from the daytime.
That was my all time favorite vacation spot to date and really want to get back there again. Have fun and congrats on renewing the vows!
