Hi ladies - I made it through surgery yesterday and was home today around 3:00!

Things I learned: period or not they will remove you underwear to put a cathiter (sp) in.

The pain was immense and still is right out of surgery. I had to go the VA hospital so my experience may be different. Be sure to have docs prescribe muscle relaxers cuz I was having major spasms for about 4 hours before they finally got a hold if doc. I have 4 drains, a flat chest now (even with TEs), pain sucks, sleep is lacking BUT my nodes, CT, and bone scan all came back clear! As far as we can tell, the big C is out if me!

So I am one week out from surgery.  woot-woot!!!  I have to say it has been one of the hardest weeks of my life. I have a very low tolerance for pain so maybe you all will not be the same as me.  I had bilateral vertebral blocks which I think was the best decision I have ever made in my life.  They put them in right before surgery.  In the pacu I was given many shots of morphine, I was also given oral percocet.  They never hesitated on pain meds.  By the next morning I felt great!!!  This was also the day of discharge.  When they took out the vertebral blocks for discharge I was in pain again.  I went home with what they call a "Q ball", not sure if that is the technical name for it but it took about 5 hours to start getting pain control.  The ride home was horrendous, so make sure that they discharge you with a shot of morphine right before they put you in the wheelchair for discharge. Have your hubby or caregiver bring at least two pillows for the ride home. You can put them under the seatbelt. I wish I could push a fast forward button for you all!!!!

I know I mentioned this before but I am going to say it again. Get some silky or satiny pajama's. You have no idea how genious this is for moving around in bed.  I never realized how much I actually move when I am in bed until this.  The sliky jammies make it so much easier and less painful.

I got my path results back.  I have only one tumor.  After the MRI they thought I had 2.  the second tumor is NOT cancer.  Woot-Woot!!!  The original tumor measured 2.1 cm which is a smidge bigger than they thought but that's ok.  I am a stage 2a. The best news is that I have is no nodal involvement!!!  I cried so hard when the news came.  I feel like a miracle has taken place.

I hope you all are healing nicely, and for those that are awaiting surgery I am praying hard for all of you!!!  You can do this!!!  Love and healing to you all!!!

    Hello surgery sisters.

Raelen just want you to know how sorry I am that your nodes are involved. This whole BC thing is such a rollercoaster. When I was diagnosed 21/2 years ago I thought I was done after radiation. Then BOOM. 8 rounds of Chemo. I know it's discouraging news but I looked at it as another life saver in my recovery. Watching the chemo go in my body I pictured all those nasty cells being killed off. Kind of like a beautiful garden with a nasty weed that needs extra killer deeper than the root so the flowers can grow and the garden can be beautiful and weed free.

Kaenghi Sorry that you are in so much pain. Hopefully the dr can get it under control. Good news about your nodes.

Judy so happy for you too.  To all my post surgery sisters I hope all of you are healing well.

Gma10 and JNS welcome. This group of ladies are wonderful and are great support. Carol it's you and me tomorrow. I will be praying for you. Mardibragood good luck friday. I will be here when you get out.

To all the rest of you.......Hugs to all......got to go....got a big day tomorrow...God Bless....Peace and Love..

I know, its really freaking me out! The scheduling nurse called me today and I asked for confirmation that it is indeed outpatient, she said the doctor left it blank which may mean 23 hour stay for observation. itmust be the way around my crappy insurance...:(

Aww Markat you can stay ... the more the merrier right ? :)

I was told that I would be in hospital for just a day , guess 24 hours as long as there arent any complications , amazing how they allow you to go home early after such a major surgery . anyway Hope all is well with everyone . :)

Added you to May 2 on the April list Markat, March April May, all the same to us.

Today I called and had a long Q and A w PS nurse, very helpful.  Did the same w bs nurse already.  Asked every question I could think of , found out things like, choice of pain meds and post op appts have already been set, even tho no one told me.  I highly recommend this for any one who, like me, is a person who wants to know everything.  Like:  most post op pain is from TE so the start you on Valium right away and you take it for 3 weeks!  Also, he is using a new pain med w fewer GI side effects called nucyncta.  From bs nurse, got visiting nurse scheduled (needs to be approved by insurance), and tlc as she is very kind.

So sorry for the pain you arefeeling. I have been so lucky to have a high tolerence for pain and this  has not been bad at all...lucky me. Also sorry about the diagnosis and chemo. Not what any of us want to hear.

Yesterday was my first follow up with bc. She came in to explain it was invasive, ER- /PR- HER2+3.Very agressive but no LN involvement. She proceeds to tell me and DH how serious this is and as she is going on, all of sudden she stops and rereads the path report again, then again and says something is not right. We already knew I had 2 tumors, different types in different areas. One was DCIS/LCIS and one was IDC. The pathologist had only sent over the report for the DCIS/LCIS which was the very agressive cancer but they had not sent over the report for the invasive. Let me tell you I would not want to be someone who messed up for her.....we heard her on the phone with the pathologist. Seems she had started the report but was not happy with one of the samples and had to start over on the invasive part and the report got sent over prematurely. I cant believe it was premature when tomorrow I will be two weeks out, but anyway, she was just at that moment working on my samples and the doctor asked us to stick around for the prelimary report, which came back with invasive ER+/PR+ HER2-. Which is good news.

I already have an appointment with MO nexy week, will need some sort of chemo or hormone therapy. Not the best of news, but definitely better than the start of the visit. Makes my head spin just trying to get a grip on it all.

Tomorrow I see the PC and hope the final 2 drains will be coming out. I am tired of carrying them around with me.

Prayers hugs and love to all recovering and to all still waiting for surgery.

Hi Jayme. I stayed overnight for my BMX but it was considered day surgery. Same thing happened when my oldest son had his appendectomy. Big difference in insurance copay.

The docs didn't try to kick me out though- they asked me several times if I felt well enough to leave. I wanted out - too many germs in the hospital and they can't leave you alone enough to get any sleep anyway!

Hi there, checking in from yesterday's lump/quadrantectomy--was back home by 6pm and feeling okay.  Gabsbaba, dianarose, photogamy, I hope you're all doing well and are back home, or will be able to go home soon.

Sony, Carol50, thinking good thoughts for both you and your surgery teams, Mardibra, you too for tomorrow.

Keonghi, congratulations on kicking C to the curb, hope the post-surgery pain is becoming manageable.  And Judy6, great news on your path report and hope you're healing well too.

I'm off to look for manual lymph drainage techniques in the lymphedema forum/threads--my affected side has some swelling already, even though I only had a SNB yesterday.

came home this morning. I am in a lot of pain on the side that had the radiation. she said it took a lot of work because the muscle was so damaged by the radiation. I hope all my other sisters are resting and healing. My daughter didn't tell me until today that I could have refused all those dam shots in my stomach. I am all needled out. I hope the pian is better tomorrow. It seems like everything hurts right now.
