Taking Radiation-Intense Pain under Skin anyone?

I had intense pain during rads as well. Not every place that you mentioned but I had to ask for prescription pain meds to finish rads. It's true we are being burned, after tx I was basically told by my physical therapist that I was a burn victim. I was a little shocked because I didn't see it that way but she was right. I had to go through intense PT (and still do) to try to fix what rads did to me. The underlying fascia on my chest was all stuck together, my chest muscles were stuck to my ribs...she had to separate it one by one. A lot of kinesio taping to release the lymph flow underneath the skin. I hope your RO gives you something to make you feel a little better.

Hi Carla9112 - I'm a little bit new to these message boards. I don't know why the newer topics don't appear at the top of the list, it's just by chance that I found your post. Anyway, my experience has not been as intense as yours but it may be a little similar. My Thursday 3/29 treatment was #21 out of 28, I had been having quite a bit of trouble with burning underneath my skin. I spoke with the technicians and doctor and I was working aggressively to treat the area and try to stay ahead of any problems. I don't know if any more could have been done but over that weekend a whole patch of blisters broke out. It was very unnerving because I still had 7 treatments to go, I was very anxious about how things would proceed and what torture I would have to endure to get through the rest of my round. I determined to have my skin checked before I had another treatment. When my RO saw it she said that I couldn't continue treatments with my skin in that shape. She had my skin dressed and had me in every day to check on things. It seemed surprisingly long for things to respond, I had more blistering, more peeling and deeper reddening of other areas right through the week. Of course, I've only had surface skin burns in the past, with radiation the skin is burned on the inside so it can take several days for it to grow out. Anyway by the end of the week I had new smooth skin underneath and when I was checked yesterday they had me resume my treatments. I still have a lot of peeling and super dry skin but I'm on my way to finishing up with my treatments - yea! I hope things have been going well for you since your last post, have you been able to keep up with your treatments?
