SFBC...Stupid F'N Breast Cancer
SFBC...the feelings never really go away. Perhaps briefly, but then Wham, you are reminded of the seriousness of this disease. I'm 51 and my heart explodes with grief every single time I hear of a young woman with this damn disease. I am lucky..my kids are grown and I will be a first time grandparent in May. But it sickens me to the depths of my soul what younger women, young mothers, yet-to-be mothers, single mothers are facing with this SFBC. It's not fair for anyone...including me... but younger women getting this crap is just so beyond. My sister in law's friend was dx a few months ago at 25. Others are 28, 32, 36, 38, 40...raising families or looking forward to that experience. The news of a few younger gals in the past few months has truly rocked my world...don't know what to do but I am angry and ready to use it usefully...somehow...but just don't know what to do.
I wish we could get through even one month without a newly diagnosed thread, without a new chemo group thread, and without a new radiation group thread. Just one month... of nobody...none...zippo... newly dx threads. That would make me feel like there has been progress in reducing the number of people that get SFBC. We are diagnosing people earlier...hurrah and some People may live a little longer but how about reducing the number of people that get SFBC. Why isn't that happening. How do we do it? How do we advocate for this?
That's it..that's all I have to say..just needed to vent my frustration
Hugs to all
Beth

You pretty much said it all Beth and I agree with every word. I too have been noticing the younger and younger ages and that is a tragic step backwards. What we can do to help reverse the trend and make some real progress is the question I wish I had the answer to also.

I would give you a big hug Beth if I could, I am 38 years old and could never have imagined this ever happening to me. You have expressed exactly how I have felt. It seems like more and more women are getting this disease every day. Posts like yours make me feel less alone for feeling so angry sometimes. Most of the time I am so hopeful and happy in front of my little one, but there are times when I want to lock myself in the bathroom and cry. I really wish we could find a cure and soon!

I'm picturing a tshirt with SFBC on it in big letters. Now that's a BC tshirt I would wear.

Anger is a strong force to be reckoned with. Channel that anger into energy and we can make a difference in our world.
I've just come across some *stuff* that really hits home and really makes me angry. Personally, I'm going to find some way to channel this anger. So here's the "cookie crumb trail". I watched this Ted Talk and it was mentioned that the mfgr of of the herbacide was the same mfgr of letrozole. http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/en/tyrone_hayes_penelope_jagessar_chaffer_the_toxic_baby.html
It made me think. I was on an AI called Femara made by Novartis. Was there a connection?
So what was the name of the company that made the herbacide? Syngenta. Syngenta formed Novartis in 1996. http://www.syngenta-us.com/history/default.aspx
You mean to tell me that the same company that makes a herbacide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atrazine that has this kind of impact is also the one that makes Femara? Can we say "conflict of interest"?
I'm not saying that my trail of info is accurate. I intend to dig some more and see what I come up with. Even if there's a 50% chance that atrazine could be related to SFBC, then it its use needs to be halted and that's where I'm going to channel my SFBC anger.
BTW, SFBC is The Perfect acronym!
