For me this was the least Pass-overy of Passovers ever.  The first night my sister-in-law came over.  I made a simple, but traditional meal - but we didn't do a sedar.  We were invited to a good friend's house the second night.  I had been feeling exhausted from my chemo a couple of days before and in the end I sent just my husband and son.  I had been feeling depressed by my physical symptoms and could not see myself putting on my wig and sitting around the table and smiling.  So I lay on the couch, dozed, and watched a DVD of Downton Abbey.  It was a good move.  I like how having cancer is giving me permission to do more of what feels right to me rather than what I have to do.

Next year will be better - maybe in Jerusalem, but more likely in Central New Jersey.

Ok. did a food shopping on Saturday, so I made a brisket yesterday and chicken soup. Just myself and husband. Lovely meal.

Wishing my sisters here healthy wishes for all of you.

I am joining this thread late...but I hosted my first seder this year. It was a bunch o' work but beautiful!

I learned the hard way it's tough to time the food to the service.

It was semi-home made. Tiny NYC kitchen, so some was home made some was prepared. All was yummy.

    I can't believe it's almost over!

Our seder was small this year (4 of my kids only, the 2 married and the grands weren't there) and it was a lot of fun. I kept insisting that all of them sing the 4 Questions but my oldest son claimed he didn't have to since he's not single, he's divorced. Hmmm, any excuse. So the other 3 sang a marvelously off-key rendition. We sing a lot of the Haggada so they made up for it later.

Cookie, I know what you mean about timing the meal! After so many years, though, I have it down. Soup is soup and can be reheated. Since we have the custom of not eating roasted meat the night of the seder I now make brisket as a pot roast so is can also be made ahead then sliced and reheated. Everything's ready when we want it and my family figures I'm a genius at it. Don't tell them, OK?

Usually I feel a bit of a letdown when Pesach ends but this year I don't. My oldest son, who lives in Baltimore, is here for the holiday and will be staying for a week after it ends. One of my daughters was in Miami with her inlaws for Pesach but will be back a few days after the holiday. So we're having a BIG family Shabbat the week after Pesach - my son will still be here, both my married daughters will come with their families, and the singles will also be here. I love when I have them all together!

    Enjoy the rest of Pesach!

    Leah

Cookiegal - Welcome! There is another thread - Jewish warrior sisters - if you want to stay in touch year-round as well.

So I went to make my matzah lasagna this evening, and after layering the matzah, sauce and shredded cheese on two layers, I went to sprinkle cheese on the third and... out dumps this green clump!!!! Even worse, the second bag of cheese also had green fuzzies! So the whole thing had to get dumped. I was tempted to just dump the one layer since there hadn't been any green previously, and it was going to get cooked anyway, but with my luck, something would have slipped through. I couldn't believe it! That dish is the highlight of Pesach for me (well, sort of). And this was kosher, $5+ a bag cheese! Passover is the only time I buy kosher cheese. I might go buy some more sauce and cheese and try again tomorrow....

Sounds like everyone has had a good holiday. Mine has been fine other than this evening's culinary disappointment.

I had a dairy dinner dinner tonight - chopped egg, tuna, lox, cream cheese, matzo bagels, salad, and DH and I also fried up some delicious zucchini/sweet potato/onion latkes - made with matzo meal and cake meal, of course.  Everyone lapped them up.

As much as I love the seders, the family getting together, etc., I am always glad went it is OVER...  looking forward to Saturday dinner out, and changing back the kitchen.

Rachelvk - yuck on the moldy cheese -  I only buy "kosher" cheese during Pesach too, I would have thrown out the whole thing too.

Welcom cookiegal, do join us on the Jewish Warrior Sisters thread, I guess we'll all be back there since Pesach is done on Saturday night.

Caya, darn I wana get on the bus to Ontario and come eat with you. I also had a tiny mold moment.

Ironically we had a mold moment one thanksgiving with the pie.

If you buy a commericial pie and they pack it too fast, with out letting it cool, the moisture can create mold.

I had a kosher for pass tzimmis show a mold spot the night of my seder.

Glad everyone had a good Pesach. Orangemat, just noticed you were from Fair Lawn. SIL is from there and her mom still lives there. Her late father was very active at the Fair Lawn Jewish Center. That's where my brother and SIL were married.

I'm almost done putting the KP dishes away. I was tempted to box the one that go into a closet since I'll be moving in a few months, but decided to do the simple thing today and worry about packing later...

Now all I have to do is shopping so I have things to eat this week!

Glad everyone had a good Pesach.

Karen in Denver - I  would love to see you when you come to Toronto this summer.  Let me know your dates when you have booked.  Lots of great kosher restaurants here, as I am sure you know.
