About wigs and heat, I chose to skip the wig. I made a diva scarf out of silk, and got some large straw hats and other nice head gear. If you add movie star glasses, people will just think it is the latest style. Lots of people never had a clue that I was bald.

You gave me an idea onvacation...maybe one of those headscarves with a tail and a baseball cap on top.  The scarf could simulate hair (in my own mind, ofcourse).  I really do not look good without hair.....

Also, only walk early in the morning, great idea.....my wig is real hair, so supposedly can take more of a beating.  What's hysterical is that everyone loves my wig, without knowing it isn't my real hair...it is truely more of my natural pre-gray (I dye) color...a rich brown.  Kind of sad that I'll have to go back to my real hair eventually, lol.

Edited - Momine - yes...sort of similar idea, but an even better one...a bigger hat!

That is a great idea. I think it would look great under a straw cowboy hat!  Gotta get me one of those.  Love that you call it a Diva scarf.

Being a diva is great fun. I sewed the scarf so that is was like a hood basically, with very long ends to tie in the back. Sort of between a turban and a scarf. I made it out of purple silk that I had prewashed. I also made one for a chemo friend. Apart from looking nice, the washed silk is still comfortable when your head gets all itchy and achy. For wearing under hats, I got some smaller turban-type scarves, because you need something to cover the bits of head not covered by the hat.

I hadn't thought about wearing a scarf under a hat, will have to check it out!  Would be a great alternative to my halo under a hat!  Thanks Momine!

    Hi all

The last week has been great.  I had lots of energy to potter about the house, and I went for half hour walks nearly every day.

I didn't have this level of energy after tx1, and I think the exercising has helped me.  So I'll try to keep it up!

Tomorrow is tx3 though, so I'm sure I'll be slowing down for a little while...

PS. I love being a diva too!  I dress my turbans up with brooches and put on sparkly earrings and/or sunglasses.  Being bald has helped me develop different looks. :D

I think I have some pins my Aunt gave me - will have to dig them out and try them on my hats!  Divaness here I come!

Onvacation, that's the spirit. You might as well have some fun with it. We only have the fun we make.

Actually worked out today at the Wellness Centre!!  I was supposed to start last week but wasn't up to it at all.  Kind of a curves style workout, but I was moving and actually got my heart rate up so that's the main thing.  Man I didn't realize how weak my thigh muscles are, yikes.  Way to much lying/sitting around.

Tx3 Day 3.  I slept for 10 and a half hours last night, and woke up with a bit of energy.  So I jumped on the elliptical machine for 10 minutes before having some breakfast.

10 minutes isn't much, but it's an improvement on my usual exercise by day 3!  My poor muscles have been wasting away a little bit lately, so I'll try to keep up at least some movement every day.

Hope you're all doing well. :D

In preparation for tx#3 tomorrow, I got a good workout yesterday & today.  I am useless for about a week after tx so I try to do as much as I can when I feel good.  I'm trying to start running again (treadmill) which I have always struggled with.  I figure if I do little everyday, I'll get it.  I must say that I did feel good when I was done.

Hope all is well for everyone and that you all were able to do a little something today.

Guys!!!  Where is everyone - I finally get off my butt and there hasn't been a post here in a week?

Well, in any event, I went for a walk that was approximately 3/10 of a mile in 24 minutes before I had a nasty almost encounter with a skunk that frightened me back to my house.  I usually like to do 1/2 hour if I walk so this was definitely a short one.  But I was skeered. ;)

I am going to start trying to do something every day and report in.  Walk at the least.

I was just thinking I needed to come here and post - had a nice walk last night and did some  yoga this morning.  I've decided I'm feeling pretty good so I have no reason not to exercise!

I walked about a mile yesterday, but a week after Chemo Tx #4, I'm so tired today.  I can barely get off the couch.  I hope Taxol will be be different than AC. Start that next week.

I've heard doing no exercise is the equivalent to smoking a pack of cigarettes a day.  I suppose they would have to compare that to an exercising smoker, though.  Walked an hour today - v e r y   s l o w l y.

Thanks onvacation -  I have a dear friend that gets me out of the house!  Today we walked an hour.  Ten year ago we use to "jam" in the aerobics room - so now the shoe is on the other foot!  What are others doing?  I keep hoping to see other's exercises.....we know exercise reduces Recurrences, helps us sleep, lose weight - these facts are all great motivators!

I haven't done as much as I should! I do walk every day and do some yoga.  But I'm thinking of busting out my turbo fire workouts this weekend and getting my sweat on!  Might as well do it as long as I feel good and have the energy!

I must admit I haven't done a thing since TCH#3 on 4/12.  I didn't even jump on my rebounder which I was doing almost daily.  Just felt too blah.  I'm starting to come out of it so I will get back on the horse.  I saw a thing for Bikram Yoga which I've always wanted to try.  Unfortunately, I googled it and chemo and what I read made me back away.  This BC crap is slowing me down.  I can't wait to be fully past it.

    Well...hmmm...we need some motivation!!!!!

My MO said today that as I can, I should try for 240 minutes of some sort of cardio related exercise that makes it so "you can talk while doing it but not sing".  He just went to a conference about it and said that it really helps deal with many SE's and recovery.

The treadmill gives me motion sickness right now but I do the stationary bike and  30min private martial arts lessons on tuesdays and thursdays after I have recovered enough from chemo.  It is hard, and sucks sometimes to have things that were easy now tire me out.  I am horribly ungraceful, but I feel great afterwards for just having tried.  I wonder how my Sensi would feel about singing in the dojo?

I jumped on my rebounder today.  I would have gone to the gym for a little cardio at lunch but I needed groceries more.  I'll do something tomorrow.  I promise.

Onvacaiton - if looking at one's elliptical counts, I've done all kinds of exercise! Just saw my original MO on Monday.  He told me to walk an hour a day so I can fight the chemo fatigue.  He wants to give me Carboplatin after the dose dense AC and dose dense Taxol (on first Taxol today) and I need to be strong enough to take the Carboplatin.  The latter being an unusual, non-protocol chemo that seems to strongly affect brca cancers.

I need to walk 1 hour per day!!  How does one walk the day of chemo, though? Especially when the whole process is 6 hours plus 3 hours driving in one day!

Do you have to do the one hour all at once?  Maybe you can break it up into 2 or 3 times a day?

I need help!  I'm in a conundrum. Ok:

    1) I work 40 hours a week from 4am-12:30. (Been out of radiation since July.)

    2) I have to fix dinner by 5pm so I am not sleeping on my meal, if you know what I mean...

    3) I live on a steep hill so have to drive into town to walk (20 minutes one way).

4)I had been walking since radiation but my breast hurt so bad with nerve pain, it layed me out the rest of the day... To solve that problem, I now go to a pain management doc to deal with the pain with creams on the breast (and gabapentin).  It is still hurting... It has been raining so hard here for a month, it delayed my walking and the pain left... I started walking last week and now the pain is back... I am getting frustrated because i want to walk... but now my subconscious finds an excuse why I shouldn't walk today.

I thought maybe if I had to be accountable to someone maybe that might give me the motivation... Any suggestions besides raising the gabapentin yet again?

I did 60 min on the stationary bike today!  GmaFoley, maybe a stationary bike?  We just bought a cheapie as I don't need a lot of gizmos and at this point I am not training to be a power racer.  I just jump on it while watching tv.  I origionally had planned on using the treadmill, but it seems to give me motion sickness.

GMA - maybe you could try marching/walking in place?  I know it is lame, but it really can get the heart rate up!  I do this at the beginning of my treatment when I'm really tired and it seems to help.
