ILC Detected WITH Digital Mammogram?

Hello Ladies!

We often spend time on this section of bc.org discussing the elusive nature of ILC and the many ways it wasn't detected. My question here is this:

Who has had ILC, either as a primary or a recurrent breast cancer, that WAS found with a mammogram? Regular or digital?

I know lots of IDC and DCIS is found this way, and I also know that there are lots of stories of mammograms that missed ILC. I am interested in situations where mammograms DID find the ILC. Thank you!

Coleen

I had my annual mammogram and "something" was seen on it that I got called back for. They did compression images and still couldn't figure it out, then did an ultrasound. The radiologist could only see a "pulling" of breast tissue. That led to the biopsy then a breast MRI. My MO said that it was very likely missed through at least one to two years of mammograms. She also said mammograms are useless for younger women (I'm 43) with dense breasts, they should be getting MRI's, but insurance companies don't want to cover them. If I knew that, I would have gladly paid for MRI's myself...

Mine was found with a regular mammo, but the same centre missed a cancer in the other breast that was IDC - mainly because of it's location and their incompetence.

I felt very lucky that the ILC was found so early. However, MRI is definitely the way to go and I will now have one every year.

Something on mammo lead to call back and spot compression mammo then US...so mammo is what lead to further testing and then biopsy and Dx

Regular mammo led to an ultra sound which led to a biopsy then a MRI.

Mine was detected with a mamo, actually several series of mamos.  Techs complained of too much calcification and dense breasts.

Mine also on a routine mammo. Thought at athe time to be 8mm, then an MRI showed approx. 2.5cm plus a second one. Had core biopsy of the first one, then MRI-guided of the second one, revealing it also was ILC.

I had a digital mammogram and ultrasound and both spiculated tumours waved right back at me and could see them clear as day!!

Raffomimi - just getting back to this thread. Your response made me laugh, although only on this site would it be appropriate to laugh at tumors waving. :)

The other evening I was with a group of women, one of whom had just been called that day by the women's health facility to come back in for follow-up to her recent mammogram. I asked if she'd had a digital mammogram or the older kind, and she didn't know. Whereupon I had a little mini-rant and told everyone that it was important to get digital mammograms. The difference in the quality of the images is like night and day. My cancer was outside the field that traditional mammograms captured, so who knows if it was visible or not? That area is clearly visible with the digital technology. They even capture my RIBS sometimes. Ow.

I went for a sixth month checkup on a fibroid on my left breast.  Did a digital mammogram for my right as well. The radiologist saw it as ILC right in front of her.  Not to sure if they would have seen it any other way.

Mine was found on a regular mammogram, but then, being well past menopause, my breasts were no longer dense.
