CookieMonster, I'm going to be at Huntington. The two different reconstruction types are because the CT angiogram showed that on the right side I have a big enough vein for the DIEP but on the left side I probably don't. If the PS finds one, she'll do the DIEP on the left side, too, because that's my preference.

Prayers and (((hugs))) to you arnee!  Looking forward to hearing from you "on the other side."  I hope GmaNiki and Jennyrjd are resting easy.

My anxiety is skyrocketing the closer I get.  Been nesting, shopping, napping when completely overwhelmed, and smoking like a chimney!  I don't know how the other ladies quit smoking at a time like this but I know my time to quit is right around the corner. Calm and peace to everyone!!

Just wanted to let those whose periods may coincide with their surgery not to worry.  You just need to let the doctors/pre-op nurses know you are having your period.  Remember these people have dealt with this situation before so it's a no brainer for them.  I know it may make you nervous.  I recently had emergency surgery on the same day my period started.  I let the medical staff know and they let me keep on my pad, underwear and gym shorts I wore to the emergency room.  I brought a extra pads to the hospital as a precaution but the nurses will provide you with some if you are having your period or it starts while you are still in the hospital.  I know there is a surgery thread entitled something like this---Embarrassing question---  that discusses this very topic.

Good Luck to those having their surgeries this week and sending positive, calming and healing prayers, thoughts and energy to all!!!!

Hi Flislander! I am thinking of you too! And all the other ladies with surgeries coming up. I met with my breast surgeon today. Still don't have a date because I'm waiting to meet with the plastic surgeon. She said probably 3 weeks. I just wish it was all over.

rtnyc- they may or may not let you wear a tampon.  The best thing is just to ask because some will allow you to wear a tampon during surgery.  One of the gals on the March 2012 Masectomy thread had her period during her BMX; she got to wear a tampon during surgery but may have had to switch to a pad during her hospital stay.

Spent some time talking with a friend who went through this a few years ago - she talked me down from the ceiling...the surgery is coming up fast and I have so much to do beforehand but I get overwhelmed and then can't do anything. Thankfully I'm not working this week.

keonghi, I asked my PS today about supportive garments post-surgery and she says she doesn't want me wearing anything compressive or tight for at least a few weeks. SHe said the mastectomy camisole with drain pockets is fine. I'm having immediate reconstruction, too.

    Thanks annabelle!

Oh and for the rest of my surgery sisters...it looks like I too will be starting my period on the day of my surgery.  Weird that it is falling on that day for so many of us!

Also, my girlfriend and I were talking last night about helplessness (and how much I hate it).  She said she would be willing to feed me or even wipe my butt if she had to! LOL!  I told her that the constipation from the meds is God's way of giving us time to heal in order to be able to wipe our own butts! LOL

    Good Morning April Buddies!

I came home yesterday. Feeling a bit better today but not quite normal yet Dont remember anything from the date of surgery. I was very nervous when we got to the hospital and the nurses were so excellent, got me a room so I could lay down and gave me some medicine to relax me and take away the nauseous. Everything after that until sometime Saturday is a jumbled memory of nothingness. Came off the morphine Saturday so then things started to come more closely into focus. Now just on ibuprophen more pain from the tram than the mx. But doing good. DH asked several times if I am happy I had the surgery. Honest answer is I dont know yetl. But I do know I happy it is over on I am on the other side. Took a short walk outside this morning as it has been beautiful weather but it is suposed to get cooler and rain for the next few days. Lilac, my favorites are blooming and apple blossoms are beautiful and I wanted a few minutes of the fragrance. See the PS next monday and BS next tuesday.

Thanks so much for all the hugs and prayers, I know they are definitely what got me through. Will post again soon, now I need to go back and read all the posts since I left before surgery. Love you ALL!!!

Post-op camisoles-- Your insurance may cover the cost for a post-op camisole (holds drains).  Your BS/ PS will write a prescription for you.  Contact your insurance to see what they will cover.

So BMX is scheduled for tomorrow morning.  I'm a little anxious, but ready to have it over with.  My mom is coming into town today to help with my post-op recovery.  She's had two masectomies (one for BC the other prophylatic...5 years apart), so knows exactly what to expect.  There's nothing about my surgery that will shock her.  I'm so thankful she'll be here because she's going to be such a great source of support.  Am working from home today so I can wrap up some loose ends at work, then plan to be out for about 4 weeks.

I'm doing delayed reconstruction because both my BS and PS strongly believe that immediate TE's cause the risk of complication to increase significantly and feel that it's better to heal from the first surgery before having a second one.  My PS is a reconstruction expert (he and his partner do about 200 per year), so I trust he knows what he's talking about.  Assuming there's no lymph node involvement or need for chemo (depending on OncotypeDX score), I'll be doing TE's in about 6 weeks.

My only problem right now is my stupid allergies.  They decided to kick in over the weekend and are driving me crazy.  Nose is stuffed up and makes it hard to sleep.  I've held off taking any drugs because I don't want to put anything in my system that might cause problems with my surgery.  If I'm still having problems breathing tomorrow, I'll talk with the nurse during my pre-op for surgery.  You kind of need to be able to breath through your nose while under Wink

    Wish me luck tomorrow.

Raelan- Sending you lots of hugs and postive, calming and healing thoughts, energy and prayers for tomorrow's surgery!!!!  Sorry to hear about allergies.  I was able to take benedryl the day before my surgery and used a saline solution nasal spray to help with my allergies.  A hot shower may also help and relax you a little!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!
