I had a lumpectomy 2/1.  Did not have clean margins on top side.  Has a re-excision 2/22.  All clean - Yea!  My plan was set.  I had the SAVI treatment dates scheduled.  The doctor wanted a diagnostic mammogram b/f we start.  Unfortunately,It showed some calcifications on bottom side, where we originally had clean margins.  Dr. wants to do ANOTHER re-excision to remove those calcifications and test for abnormality.  Has anyone else had to have 2 or more re-excisions?  Nurse said it's more common with DCIS and called it "chasing".  Would welcome any feedback.  Thanks!

Yes, I had lumpectomy and then 2 re-excisions to get clear margins.  Frustrating:(  Best of luck!

Did you have an MRI? I would insist on that before the re-excision to be sure no other areas were missed. My breast was very small so a mastectomy was the only option-- a reexcision would have really left almost nothing, but the MRI also helped me make the decision since I had multi-focal DCIS.

Yes, I had an MRI before the original lumpectomy.  Just wasn't sure if having more than 1 re-excision was common or not.

I had a recent re-excision which came back with a "close" margin. Have seen Dr. Silverstein, got 2nd opinion on pathology with Dr. Lagios, saw Dr. Esserman at UCSF and had the Oncotype test done before making any decisions.  All resources and my story can be found at my blog: www.dcis411.com

Each case is different, but good to get all the angles and options on the table. Best wishes for peace on your journey. Would love to hear what you decide. ~Donna
