Newly Diagnosed Triple Negative

I am a 48 year old, newly diagnosed Triple Negative (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, BRCA 1 +).

My mom died from breast cancer at the age of 47 in 1986 - I thought I knew alot about BC because of that....turns out - not so much Smile I "don't know what I don't know" ?!?!?!

Chemo starts on 04/05/12 (8 rounds, every 14 days - (4) Adriamycin,Cytoxan followed by (4)Taxol) and then a double mastectomy to follow. I was coping well with the BC diagnosis and the BRCA mutation discovery - but the TN has really thrown me for a loop. Any encouragement, suggestions during chemo, statistics, questions to ask, etc would be most welcomed  by other TN survivors.

CourageouslyPink- Sorry you are hear, but welcome. You will find a wealth of info here. Come and check out the thread "Calling all TNS". We are all triple negative and have either been through or are currently going through treatment. Don't think of TN as being "bad"- it is just different and responds to chemo very well Just ask here, on the thread I mentioned or private message me if you have any questions. I am 15 months out from my last chemo.

Also, be sure to join the April 2012 chemo discussion thread.  There you will find others who are doing chemo at the same time, and many will have the same treatment.  You will learn from and encourage each other.

I know how you feel, CourageouslyPink.  I was handling everything pretty well (all the tests, plus surgery), until the onc went over the path report with me this past Tuesday.  As she pointed out the receptor results, I blurted, "You mean I'm triple negative???"  She said, "Oh, you know about that?"  Did she think I was spending the past month in a cave?  I was researching my butt off.  So, I've been trying to get back on the positive train all week, and only visiting this site and the TNBCFoundation site.  I just printed out an article about a major breakthrough in Canada regarding the genetic makeup of TN, and how this "may one day help doctors devise a treatment plan that better targets their patients' disease." I'm bringing the article with me to my next onc. appointment. I want targeted treatments NOW!
