Mets found during planning scan ?

Options

I was speaking to a nice lady who was telling me that she was diasgnosed with secondary cancer after she was given her planning scan. I was not aware that the planning scan was looking for tumours and have never heard of this before. I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies had heard of this or any incidents like it.

I was told specifically that the CT was not for diagnostic purposes.  I took that to mean it is not sent to a radiologist for evaluation.  However, if it showed something obviously out of the ordinary, I would hope they don't ignore it.

Same here - I had a whole body PET/CT, a head CT, and a MUGA before any treatment (I am doing neoadjuvant chemo/before surgery)...that is just my MO's, well, her "M.O."!  LOL.  It's just part of the process for her patients. They are read just like any other scan and are used as baselines in the future (that is as far as my MO's office does things).

Thats was the same here i thought it was just for planning, she did say at her first radiotherapy planning ct scan that they did not do measurements or mark her up and when she went for her first treatment they put her in the x ray simulator and did all her measurements which seems strange.

Any other ladies heard of this ?

Maybe she was confused about planning vs. a follow up scan?

Yes it strange, she did say that she got her first ct scan 6 months ago and no mets then, seems unusual, never heard of this before,

Hopefully someone will enlighten us !

    Hi ladies

I was sent for a bone scan a few weeks ago, even though I was node negative with no lymph or intravascular (blood) invasion found. The oncologist told me that all the cancer had been taken away with the mastectomy and I had clear margins.

My guess is that my oncologist was surprised that it has not spread to date because I am HER2+ and had two types of cancer - DCIS and infiltrating ductal carcinoma with a 3.4cm lump, aggressive, grade three lump.

I am anaemic, however, and I guess he wants to find out why this is. I can tell him - I need to eat more meat/greens!

Still awaiting results a month later. I have a meeting with the onc on Monday.

My RO told me the planning scan was not for the purpose of looking for tumors, but if she saw anything out of the ordinary while looking at the she would say so. I took that to mean the mets could be found thru the planning scan if they happen to be in the areas scanned.
