I did not have a supraclavicular node but did have an infraclavicular node positive. The surgeon did try to find it when I had my mastectomy but couldn't get to it. After chemo, that node no longer lit up on the PET scan.
I think having a supraclav. means that you are Stage IIIC for determining your treatment plan.
I wish you the best. Hang in there,

Annie, how did they know you had an infraclavicular node positive? Was it swollen? I ask because last month I discovered two nodes in that area swollen - and they are still swollen. In 2009 I was dxd with DCIS and had a mastectomy on that side. At the time of surgery the sentinel nodes were clear - so at first I just let the worry go but here it is over a month later and they are still swollen.

They found it on a PET scan. It was not swollen.
As you can see from my signature line, I had many nodes postivie the first time around.

thanks. i will check what the positive node called. having first chemo tomorrow and had herceptin today. so worried about everything xx

Welcome Kate, sorry you've had to join us here. I didn't have supraclavicle node + but did have intermammary + nodes (between the breast), hopefully someone will chime in with more experience. They didn't remove my nodes but zapped them with rads and chemo took care of them also. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and hope everything goes ok. This site has saved me many, many days, I hope you come back often and find the support and info you need here. It will get better, it's so hard and scary at the beginning. We're here if you need us.

J9W, I would get your swollen node looked at. It might be some sort of infection, or a cyst, but it's also possible that it is cancerous. Find out for sure.

A clarification on my post. I did not get rads on my infraclavicular node because that area had already been radiated in round 1.
And the pos node was found on a Pet/CT. MRI did not pick it up (if I remember correctly).

i have never had a PET scan or MRI. i will ask about that . i asked today why they didnt remove more than 6 nodes and he said cos of risk of lymphoedema. but +ve lymh node in supaclavicular node. dont really get that. also how do you know if you ve ever been cured xxx

When I was originally diagnosed, I had an MRI before any surgeries.

Can somebody say how you can tell if you have either supraclavicular or infraclavicular nodes be positive? Is it just swelling, or is it also soreness in that area? I've had both CT and PET scans done that show nothing. But then during mastectomy I had 12 out of 12 nodes removed that tested positive for cancer that were considered macros. What are some typical symptoms?

Sherri - Yes, I have had two breast MRI's, a CT Scan, an NM bone scan and recently a PET Scan, as well as a MUGA heart scan.
But, I also have had a mammogram every year since 40 and as recently as six months before my diagnosis of ILC at nearly 5 cm. Nobody could find it on any scan. My husband found the lump.
Oh, and I also had 3 breast biopsies, 2 due to being on a clinical trial for six months to test the anastrozole's ability to shrink my tumor prior to surgery, which it did in half.

i have a palpable lump in my collar bone which is from the breast cancer. they said they dont operate there but the chemo will make it disappear. thats as much as i know,. wish you all well xxxx

Hi
I had a re-diagnoses in 2009 of infraclavicular nodes (2) four and a half years after original diagnoses, had six rounds of Taxotere and boost radiation to those two nodes. But just this past December another node showed up on routine CT Scan. Started Navelbine with Herceptin and just today at the half way mark of my chemo, found out that my repeat CT scan cannot detect any disease. So something is definately finally working. By the way, I was the one that found this new cancer because when I touched my chest below my collarbone it felt thicker and firmer than the other side, so I questioned the dr. about it. The tumor is also pretty deep in the pectoral muscle which made is inoperable.
