OMG. I have the choice between MOMs Organic Markets and whole foods. Whole foods is more convenient but I think I'll be heading to MOMs. I don't buy frozen veggies but I'm off to check the frozen fruit labels now. Then I'll be checking them at MOMs too. This is outrageous. Thanks for posting.

USDA certified organic regardless of country of origin -- that means the produce has the same organic input regardless of the location of the farm. I don't understand the problem. As the piece notes, organic and local are not the same thing. In either case people who chose to pay a premium for the precieved benefit of either "organic" or "locally" grown produce have many choices, including Whole Foods. I have to say I was surprised that the source of the info about Whole Foods is . . . Whole Foods. Wonder who they are trying to decieve with that piece of information.

We lived in the Far East for years, China, Korea, Japan, the 2 first ones use human waste, that is bought to fertilize fruits , vegetables, etc, we were advise never to buy fresh , unless one had a vegetable garden. all had to be from cans, thank God we were able to buy in the US Army Commissary. Korea is the same.

Only Japan produce is clean and safe to eat.
