Has anyone ever heard of this?

My mom went to her reg check up to her onco dr yesterday. I have never missed a appointment except for this one. Mom is 77 and does at times have some confusion. This is what her dr told her.

She has been having epsoides of hot flashes that will make her dizzy, unbalanced and out of control sweating. She mentioned it to her dr and he asked her to make a appointment with her gyn. He told her it could be a sign of the cancer returning?? He said something about she shouldnt be producing estrogyn at her age and should have this checked out. She just had all her scans and blood work done at the end of feb and was told everything is fine and NED..

Her mom did pass on eary in life from overian cancer. Dont know if this is worth mentioning.

Im just confused and was hoping someone would understand his comment.

I don't have ilc, but I do think that has a higher risk of developing ovarian mets. Did she have a pet scan done in Feb?  It would seem unlikely that she would have mets that are causing symptoms if she had a clear scan a month ago.

Hi Penny, at your moms age, her ovaries should be shrivelled little prunes not capable of producing estrogen.  I'm way younger than she and that's how mine are.  Having said that, we do produce estrogen through the adrenal glands and extra body fat (if she has any).  Is she taking Tamoxifen or one of the AI's?  They can and do produce the hot flashes and profuce sweating as SE's.  It would be unlikely that the cancer is returning if her scans were all clear just four weeks ago but she should still be checked out if these things are really bothering her.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Love n hugs.  Chrissy

    Thank you Laurie and Chrissy.

Laurie yes she did have a pet scan and all the normal blood work done and everything was fine. I think that you are right about that if anything was wrong it would have showed up then.

Chrissy mom isnt taking anything, she only had her 4 treatment of the chemo and that was over a year and a half ago that she ended that. Her onco told me back in the beginning that because she is triple neg she cant have anything more. Oh and she only weighs 135 lbs, so not over weight really.

I just wish I could have been there so I could have heard what he said to her myself. But we will do what he asked and make a appointment with her gyn.

Thank you both for taking the time to help.

Hi Penny - Is there any chance that you can contact her doctor to get the comment clarified? I  would always go with my mom, (Dee), when she was diagnosed because the chemo truly gave her issues with her memory and she couldnt remember anything.....I know some doctors will not speak to you due to confidentiality concerns, but since you usually accompany her, maybe they will understand?  I hope everything works out!

As your Mom has had a reoccurance of cancer ruled out and GYN issues also ruled out - it seems to me that it's time for a very good, thorough, medical workup. The issues you say she is having can be caused by many 'things' that are not cancer related, singularily or in conjunction - heart, lungs, kidneys, diabetis/hypoglycemia, thyroid, mineral/vitamin imbalances are one that come to my mind. I know it's hard at times to remember but cancer is not our entire body - other things do go on.

    Kicks,

That is great advise. Mom does have a few of those issues in her history. She has a mechanical heart valve which she has had for over 17 years. She is also on blood thinners due to that condition. On many occasions they bring up on her scans that she had extensive harding of the artires. I will have her bring this new development up to her reg dr that cares for her in that area. She is 77 and has had many other health concers. You are right its hard at times to remember that cancer defines are being. So scary at times. Thanks again.

I got my mother in to see her reg. dr and he will be doing a list of blood work. I have noticed for some time now that her memory is getting worse and I sence alot of confusion from her. He really dosent think its any kind of a reoccurance. (YEAH!) So she will have her thyroid levels checked and a hormone test done too. He finds it hard to believe she is producing estrogen. So we will see whats up.

Thank you all for the advise.

    Penny
