I am NOT turning my facebook page pink

Received one of those things on facebook that your friends automatically send out to everyone, asking me to turn my facebook page pink to remind people about breast cancer. I am really growing anti-pink these days. We spend a lot of time at the sporting goods store and I feel like companies use it to sell their stuff - it's on everything!  I have no idea how much of the money they make actually gets to Komen and how much they really spend on helping women. My grandma and aunt both had breast cancer, so maybe I am just a little sensitive, not sure. Hmmm. I also wonder if having a pink facebook page means certain advertisers will automatically pop up in the margins trying to sell stuff and leveraging our emotions, fears, etc?

    OMG - I haven't checked my FB page yet - I SO hope I don't find that message there!

    I adore my friends and family who have stuck by me and supported me and loved me through my dx and surgery, but it may be time for a little teachable moment.

    The pink doesn't bother me so much. It's a good color for me so I hate to lose all those options at the store. :) However, Komen has bothered me ever since I learned that 40% of the funds they raise go to salaries and the cost of hosting the races... T-shirts and water bottles etc... I'm a much bigger fan of Susan Love's "Army of Women." That is an idea we should all be on board with. We need a cure, better detection methods, better treatments, better risk assesments and all kinds of things that take real research. I'm happy to volunteer for any of the trials that I qualify for.

    Oh crap ... not another one of those things.  I hope nobody sends it to me ... and they probably won't because I've posted a few things about Komen and my dislike of their 'pink fluffiness' in the past.

    I didn't even know you 'could' turn your FB page pink??  or any other color for that matter.
