Timing for rads after chemo?
I have my last round of TC chemo on April 12. We have a family trip booked and paid for in mid-June. Originally when I told MO about this when we were scheduling things out, he said that he figured I could start rads immediately after chemo was over, which gets me finished with my 6.5 weeks right before I leave for the trip.
However, today MO said RO had looked at my chart and didn't want me to start rads until 3-4 weeks after chemo ends. That is definitely out, because it will put my vacation in the middle of scheduled time.
If we wait until after trip, that is 9 weeks out from end of chemo. Did anyone wait that long after chemo before rads starting?

I just finished chemo on 3/2 and was scheduled to start rads first week of April. When I met with RO, I asked if I could start sooner than 4 weeks, as I felt fine. He explained that the body needs to recover fully from chemo as rads takes a lot out of you, but, if my WBC was good (checked on 3/19), he would start me earlier. Unfortunately, even though I felt normal, my WBC was only 2.9 on Monday (the 19th). Had it checked again today and it is now in the normal range, so I'm waiting to see when they schedule me.
I did do the simulation on Monday and the technician told me that it takes about a week from simulation to develop your individualized rads program.
So, I don't think it's as simple as "wanting" to start early (as least for me)... I didn't know that they check your WBC before starting. As for waiting, I don't know. My RO told me 4 weeks was the optimum time, just enough to recover from chemo,
I feel for you. I believe I will most certainly miss a planned trip to Florida near the end of April, and boy do I need a vacation! -
I had neo-adjuvant chemo, which was completed on 12/8. I had colon cancer surgery (suprise!) in January then breast surgery on 2/7 - I finally had my first actual rads treatment yesterday, so I am well over 3 months after chemo. I am on Herceptin, and they do labs each time for that, but RO has not mentioned needing bloodwork for rads. I had labs done today, and my WBC was quite low. I'll see RO on Tuesday, so I'll find out then what she has to say about that....

I wound up waiting just about nine weeks also. I, too, had chemo first, finished five months of it about July 7. Then I had my surgery, modified radical mastectomy, August 2. Then when I finally recovered from that, my rads started about the end of the second week in September. So, that was right about nine weeks, so I imagine your "wait" on rads will work out fine. I'm five months out from my last rads treatment and I feel great. But I would suggest, of course, checking with your cancer doc and again with the radiation doc and see what they say. If one of them says no, then hopefully you can reschedule your trip for later in the summer, this is the nature of disease, it doesn't come in a timely manner.

My onc says it's best to wait at least 3 weeks after chemo to get rad.
However, I'm on both chemo and rad at same tme. If they are giving you rad treatments separately then 3 weeks is what I've heard. Good luck.
