Which doctor to see??
Ladies and Gents, In Aug 2009 I was dxd w/grade 3 DCIS - had a right mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy that came back clear. I took taxox for 11 months but stopped because of bone pain. In the meantime I have either mammo's or mri's every six months. My last mri stated a birad 3 finding on the left side and so I'm scheduled for another one in August. About 5 weeks ago I discovered swollen glands near my shoulder (in the infraclavicular area) and they are still swollen; this is on the side where I had the mastectomy but not where I just got the birads 3 result.
By now two different people have told me I should go to the doctor but I honestly don't know who to see on this? My gyno? My breast surgeon? Find a new onco (mine moved out of state)? Or just wait and see if the swelling goes away and then mention it in August when I have my mri follow up and see my breast surgeon?
Input greatly appreciated.

Hi J9W,
If it were me, I would go to whatever doctor (gyno or breast surgeon) is able to see me first. With your history, I don't think this is something you should wait on, especially not until August. I hope you get it checked out soon and it turns out to be nothing of concern.

I would go to the breast surgeon. You have a relationship with this doctor. S/he can refer you to an onc if you need one and possible get you in sooner if need be. Going to a new doctor sometimes it's hard to get in being a new patient.

Hi J9W .. sorry to hear you are faced with this worry. I would see my surgeon about swollen lymph nodes.
Best wishes,
Bren

I would definitely be calling my breast surgeon and see what they recommend.

Thank you all for your input. I am seeing my BS next Tuesday. You know how it goes: at first when I felt the lumps I thought I was 'feeling things that weren't real'; then I was sure they'd go away so I did nothing; then you all starting giving good advice; but then, over the weekend I visited with my sister and asked her to see if she could feel anything (see, denial was still alive and well because I was still hoping I was 'feeling things' that weren't really there) - big sis said she definately felt the lumps so here I go to se the BS. UGH. But, again, thank you all very much for answering me.

good day All, just an update: I saw my BS yesterday and she didn't seem very concerned about my new lumps (and of course, while with her we could only find ONE lump) - she actually stated that it's most likely fat necrosis. However, for piece of mind the little fat lump will be removed in a few weeks - she'll send it to pathology but she really doesn't expect to get any surprises. It's a relief and I slept better last night than I had in weeks. Thanks everyone for your advice. J9
