This is the most optimistic report including three new studies and confirming previous studies.

"In particular, we show that aspirin reduces the likelihood that cancers will spread to distant organs by about 40-50%,"

Some cancers appear to respond more than others to aspirin use. Rothwell said in terms of preventing spread, their findings suggest the largest effect is in adenocarcinomas, which includes cancers of the gut, and colorectal cancer in particular. It also includes most breast and prostate cancers, and some lung cancers.

Interesting that last year, a similar study came out but indicated 3-4xweek aspirin was more beneficial than daily aspirin.  This study seems to indicate daily better than 3-4x .

Last years also indicated lower dosage better; this year full dose better.

At least they are on the same page about benefits. Wink

Here's something interesting I just came across while looking into this latest news on aspirin.  It briefly discloses Dr. Rothwell's affiliations with pharmaceutical companies, as well as posts a disclaimer re. a reverse or net affect in some cases:

Not saying aspirin may not be extremely beneficial for some -- just that some things may not be as clear cut as they appear when you only read a press release re. a study.     Deanna

My onc suggested that I start taking low dose aspirin a year ago.  Since he rarely suggests anything that isn't pretty well established, I listened.  Little did I know that I had already developed mets, but I figure it can't hurt to continue, as it's a good inflamation fighter.
