Pain after mastectomy

On February 23 I had a mastectomy and insertion of tissue expander on my left breast. 22 lymph nodes were removed. I am having a complication of seroma, but the tissue is healthy and my PS is not concerned. The pain is improving each week, but I am still very uncomfortable and by afternoon start taking pain pills, which don't help much. The pain is under my arm, which I assume is from the lymph node removal, and around the expander and my ribs. The filling process has not yet started. I would like to hear from others who have had this. How long before the pain goes away? It really wears on you.

On a positive note, my lymph nodes were completely clear and I don't require any further cancer treatment. My diagnosis was DCIS Level 3. For this I am grateful as I know I am more fortunate than others.

You have had alot of surgery, it seems normal to have pain for a while. I did not have reconstruction, but on the side where lymph nodes were removed, it still can hurt, 2 years later.

At your point in healing, I was still taking ibuprophen by late afternoon too...

I just wanted to mention you posted in the" humor and games" section, you may want to find the topic of DCIS and post there...or reconstruction....and you will get more responses.

Congrats on those lymph nodes being clear!!!!!!!!

Thanks, I didn't know what I was doing. I will repost it in the correct forum.
