Homeopathic remedies during chemo
Hope this helps some of you. I use Traumeel for bumps and bruises, aches & pains. It's amazing stuff. The mouthwash is great, too.

The good thing about homeopathic meds are that they are natural, work with the body, and do not cause side effects.
Consult with a homeopathic or naturopathic physician for details on use.

Hi Tucker, thanks for starting all these important threads

I used the calendula cream during rads and no redness, rash or pain. Just reminds me that I have to get another tub of that cream because of rash on radiated breast; have tried other solutions but they're not working
Hoping Essa will weigh in on this one, she is highly knowledgeable about homeopathy and I want to go there !!

Hi Maud,
You're very welcome, my dear. Naturopaths, as you probably already know, use a combo of homeopath and naturopathic remedies along with acupuncture, etc. I really think that to 'cure' cancer we need to detoxify, especially the liver after chemo, and keep detoxing with milk thistle-liver support. I also am a believer in acupuncture because it unblocks stagnant areas in the body. The Chinese believe with their 5000 year old medicine that stagnant areas in the body lead to tumors and they have evidence about it. I will dig it up if anyone is interested.
Homeopathic can take a little longer to work. We are so used to a quick fix that most people don't want to wait for their body to balance itself by using natural remedies, but this is the holistic method, which is the belief that cancer is not just limited to one physical area of the body but involves emotions, mental, spiritual. All these things have to work together, along with an organic (as much as possible) diet, exercise and, for me, a belief in a higher power.
I just want to feel good as long as possible, as QOL is a biggie for me. I am active and want to stay that way. It may cost me about $75 a month for supplements, but it's my health, so how priceless is that?
Let's share what we have learned, or want to learn, about homeopath/naturopathic remedies.

Here's some data ....

"In 1999, the National Cancer Institute-Best Case Series evaluated the cancer treatment protocol developed by the P. Banerji Homeopathic Research Foundation (PBHRF) in Kolkata, India. The ‘Banerji Protocol' constitutes a new method of using ultradiluted natural substances classically used in homeopathic medicine through prescribing specific remedies for specific diseases.
As documented by this clinic, a group of 21,888 patients with malignant tumors were monitored by PBHRF between 1990 and 2005. This group of patients used the Banerji Protocol without being subjected to any additional methods of conventional care.
The clinic's physicians reported that in 19% of the cases, the malignant tumors completely regressed, and in another 21% of the cases, the tumors were static or improved after treatment. For patients with static tumors, the follow-up continued for at lease 2 years, and for some, follow-up has continued for 10 years1."
A study of 15 Indian brain tumor patients evaluated Ruta graveolens (garden rue) 6C and Calcarea phosphorica (Calcium phosphate) 3D. Eight of the nine glioma patients showed complete regression of tumors without receiving additional chemotherapy or radiation.
Some studies have shown that homeopathic medicines can be used to mitigate the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Research indicates that homeopathy has improved quality of life in people during and after cancer treatments into post-treatment survivorship"

Although many studies have been conducted on the role of alternative medicine in the treatment of cancer, only a few reports have been published regarding the total regression of malignant tumors. At the PBH Research Foundation (PBHRF), two of the authors have used homoeopathic therapy to treat many patients with various malignant tumors. The objective of the present study was to have their treatment procedures evaluated and validated by the United States (US) National Cancer Institute (NCI) Best Case Series (BCS) Program. Lung and oesophageal carcinoma patients were treated with homoeopathic remedies at the PBHRF according to Banerji's protocol until there was complete regression of the tumors. Case records including pathology and radiology reports for 14 patients were submitted for review by the US NCI BCS Program. Four of these cases had an independent confirmation of the diagnosis and radiographic response and were accepted as sufficient information for the NCI to initiate further investigation. These four cases are presented in detail in this report along with follow-up and outcome information. This study describes the process and outcome of a selected case series review through the NCI BCS Program. The results of the review were deemed to be sufficient to warrant NCI-initiated prospective research follow-up in the form of an observational study.

Ruta 6 selectively induces cell death in brain cancer cells but proliferation in normal peripheral blood lymphocytes: A novel treatment for human brain cancer.
Pathak S, Multani AS, Banerji P, Banerji P.Source
Department of Molecular Genetics, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX 77030, USA. pathak_sen@yahoo.comAbstract
Although conventional chemotherapies are used to treat patients with malignancies, damage to normal cells is problematic. Blood-forming bone marrow cells are the most adversely affected. It is therefore necessary to find alternative agents that can kill cancer cells but have minimal effects on normal cells. We investigated the brain cancer cell-killing activity of a homeopathic medicine, Ruta, isolated from a plant, Ruta graveolens. We treated human brain cancer and HL-60 leukemia cells, normal B-lymphoid cells, and murine melanoma cells in vitro with different concentrations of Ruta in combination with Ca3(PO4)2. Fifteen patients diagnosed with intracranial tumors were treated with Ruta 6 and Ca3(PO4)2. Of these 15 patients, 6 of the 7 glioma patients showed complete regression of tumors. Normal human blood lymphocytes, B-lymphoid cells, and brain cancer cells treated with Ruta in vitro were examined for telomere dynamics, mitotic catastrophe, and apoptosis to understand the possible mechanism of cell-killing, using conventional and molecular cytogenetic techniques. Both in vivo and in vitro results showed induction of survival-signaling pathways in normal lymphocytes and induction of death-signaling pathways in brain cancer cells. Cancer cell death was initiated by telomere erosion and completed through mitotic catastrophe events. We propose that Ruta in combination with Ca3(PO4)2 could be used for effective treatment of brain cancers, particularly glioma.

Homeopathic Treatment Helps Some Cancers
A February 2010 study in the International Journal of Oncology reports that four specific homeopathic remedies had "cytotoxic effects" on two types of breast cancer cells but not on normal breast tissue. Researchers at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (Houston) conducted this laboratory study using Carcinosin, Phytolacca, Conium, and Thuja. Thesehomeopathics are often given to cancer patients in India.
In this study, cancer cells exposed to the remedies displayed "cell cycle delay/arrest and apoptosis." The researchers call for more studies of these remedies using additional cell lines and animal models
The protocol for using homeopathics to treat cancer patients may be as important as the remedies used. Holistic veterinarian Joe Demers recommends the approach of Dr. A. U. Ramakrishnan of India. "I have had much better results using Ramakrishnan's method than I ever had using the standard classical homeopathic approach of using low potencies, LM potencies, or high potencies then waiting," he writes.
Although trained in classical homeopathy, Ramakrishnan began trying different protocols when cancer patients failed to respond. His protocol alternates an organ specific homeopathic remedy with a nosode (usually Carcinosin or, if the tumor is hard, Scirrhinum)on a weekly schedule. The protocol and list of remedies are found in the book A Homeopathic Approach to Cancer, which Ramakrishnan co-authored with Catherine T. Coulter.
Ramakrishnan does not claim that his protocol is a cure for all cancers. Since he began using it in 1994, he has observed "particularly good results in patients with breast cancer, prostate cancer, and esophageal cancer." He estimates about an 80% cure rate in his patients with these cancers. Ramakrishnan advocates an integrative approach that includes surgery and the use of modern diagnostic technology but shuns chemotherapy and radiation therapy because of their toxicity. He collaborates with oncologists throughout the world. "It's a question of mind," he says. "If you have an open mind, you can work together."

Important to note that was an in vitro, not in vivo study. It's really better to cite the abstract or actual study that was published, rather than second or third hand summaries, which get garbled far too often.
-
Kadia, be my guest
-
Hi Kadia, I agree it's important to distinguish between in vivo and in vitro. It's a HUGE difference.
As to posting research summaries versus actual studies, though, I have mixed feelings. I'm not a scientist or statistician, so sometimes the actual studies are so difficult to muddle through, that I find it really helpful to have some help translating them into laymans' terms. Of course the trick, then, is deciding which sources to trust for those translations, and being able to delve deeper into things to get to the real "meat."
So often here, people cite research studies that are completely misrepresented or simply don't support the conclusions they think they do. It's easy to go onto pubmed and cherry-pick a study that mentions "xyz mushroom" and "cancer," for example, but that doesn't necessarily translate into "all breast cancer patients should eat bucketsful of xyz mushroom to treat their cancer." Unfortunately, that very thing happens a LOT here.

Data is data. Experience, experience. Studies, studies.
In the end, everyone who reads anything on this site or anywhere in the world at all then have the reesponsibility to themselves to make their own decisions, find their experts and figure out what they will do. I am grateful to find the info shared so I can consider and do this for myself.
RUTA - I did not know that it could be used for cancer, and may be useful for some people. I did use ruta for when I had plantar fracitiis and I really believe it helped my recovery to be swifter and more enduring.
Am relearning much of what i knew before, when I lost my memory when I was so sick (could have been the bp meds that I did not need that pushed me over the edge) I lost the remedies and health resolutions they offered, but relearning so much. Will offer what I can.
My passion was the research and doing the entire reading of a person so the one perfect remedy would be apparent. That included the emotional, spiritual, physical, the illness, the basic personality and system of the person, the one concern they had or mannerism that gave it all away.
The one remedy that may work...... For instance a lycopodium signature remedy for a person is key for one who has a forgetful mind. Could it work for dementia or Alzheimers? Maybe. Would I try it to see if it would work for me? You bet I would. Did it? No, not for me, but it was harmless to try for me (not saying homeopathy is always harmless) and it was $8. Will I use my meterica media to check out the ruta? Yes, yes I will. I may be a match, especially with the cutting pain I am having today. But if not, it could be I need a different remedy or to follow the ruta with another in a few days or weeks. Like the first post by Tucker says, you need a homeopath who understands cancer treatments you are using.
For every study, trial, story, experience, news article, every video I see posted on this website, i am grateful because the info is there for me to ponder, it's in my face shared by someone in my boat and I respect that.

http://www.nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org/content/cancer-miasm-the-stain-of-perfectionism
Not for the faint of heart, I warn, as this gets to the spiritial and character of cancer people. Why some people are exposed to the same things and there are those who get cancer and those who do not perspective.
Love this website, link above, follow Dr. Sankaran's teachings and have his books, have a huge library of homeopathy books and this site is a wealth of updated info too.
Does this mean the cancer remedy will cure cancer? Cannot say, it is individual. But it can help the personality to find a better way to handle life and thus, the mind will benefit, the spirit benefit, the body will possibly benefit to a degree, from what has been witnessed in real cases, this was true (provings done) and that is why this remedy is considered for cancer people, though not all need the same remedy - it must be matched to the individual.

I strongly recommend an extract of the Turkey Tail mushroom (Coriolus Versicolor is its official name) It has a great rep. in neutralizing the side effects of chemo and radiation. In China and Japan it is ratified as an official medicine for this reason.
Have a look at this PDF; an overview of a large clinical trial with very good results.
http://www.oriveda.com/zips/PSP_TRIALS.pdf
Don't start cooking your own Turkey Tail soup now - there are several good supplements for sale. Make sure you buy one that specifies the level of PSP, not just 'contains PSP and PSK' - these are no good. More interesting research regarding medicinal mushrooms and cancer can be found in this repository:
http://www.chaga.us.oriveda.com/resources.php
I strongly advocate these medicinal mushrooms - they are very effective and can improve the quality of life significantly. Some of them even have direct anti-tumor properties and can prevent metastasis by stimulating the immune system, according to research.
Actually, several chemotherapeutic agents are based on mushroom derived components. The whole mushroom has an added quality: the synergy resulting from the natural product as a whole. In Asia people are much more aware of these qualities.
