Pregnant - Delay Tamoxifen

I just found out that I am pregnant.  I completed AC+T, radiation, and had 3 Herceptin injections left.  My doctors are very concerned the effects of the Herceptin on my baby and me delaying Tamoxifen.  I cannot find any real conclusive data on women who have had a child within the 6 month window following Herceptin or while on Herceptin.  In addition, my doctors say I should not delay starting Tamoxifen.  Does 8 months really matter?  I am doing a lot of soul searching and really do not want to abort my baby.  Please help!

I don't have any valuable info but I wanted to give you big hugs and bump this up on the actives list.  Have you posted on the young survival coallition.  its a BC board for women under 40, you might get more answers there too.

    Hi Tommilyn1

First, you may be interested in checking out what the main Breastcancer.org site has to say about Fertility and Pregnancy Issues During and After Breast Cancer. Specifically, the Treatment for Breast Cancer During Pregnancy page.

There's also a helpful Research News story from 2/9/12 called Cancer Treatment OK During Pregnancy. Be sure to pay special attention to the pink box on the right called "What Breastcancer.org Says" in order to help understand what this information means for you.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I so feel your pain. It is almost impossible to find information on pregnancy and herceptin. I am barely a year in remission from stage four cancer and have had to stop my herceptin treatments because I got pregnant. The doctors will not really give me much direction on when and if I should restart my herceptin treatments during my pregnancy. I dont know anything about tamoxifen and pregnancy but I have done some research on herceptin and pregnancy that I would be happy to share with you. Even if you just want someone to talk to who has some idea of what you are going through, please message me- one of the worst parts of being pregnant and dealing with cancer has been having no one to talk to.

A couple of years ago we had a lady on our stageIII forum who went through treatment while pregnant. Not sure what she had but she's still on the boards and goes by "Pure" and I'm sure she would tell her story if you PM her. Good luck to both of you.

There is a woman who continued on herceptin while pregnant and if I find her blog I will let you know.
