A bowl of sliced bananas sprinkled with unsweetened granola and almonds, very filling.

I made a big pot of spicy black beans this week, and a big pot of brown rice.  Served it last night with an avocado, tomato and red onion salad and multigrain tortillas.

My biggest challenge has been snacking.  I am running DD all over town for activities and find myself "out" with no healthy food in sight.  Does anybody have good choices to recommend for those days I don't have time to pack something for myself? What snacks do you order out?

Popping in quickly as I am still at work, and haven't posted on this thread before but this is a great idea! I am trying to cut out sugar and go much lower fat.  My favorite cereal now is Uncle Sam - flaxseed and no added sugar but delicious, particularly with berries.  The other thing I am trying to do is add broccoli to every salad on the salad bar (I eat out more than I eat at home.) I've never been a huge broccoli fan but I am quickly starting to really like its taste raw.

Veggie Salad at the Swedish restuarant for lunch, although I expected more veggies than I got.  On the other hand, we did have to get the swedish meatball appy since we were in a Swedish restaurant, but only 2 1/2 ones each.

And flaxseed added to my yogurt for bfast and a banana for snack instead of pretzels.

Thanks for that link stage 1.  I miss bread.  The website is sort of messy, but managed to find some bread right in my area...will try it!

Thank heavens the rice and beans are finally finished!

Been off for awhile.  Been eating okay, have been better.  I will get back into this today.  Sweets and carbs are bringing me down.  So, I purchased a lot of fresh fruit over the weekend and have it chilled, chopped and ready.  Lots of bananas too.  Need to make them into smoothies.  NOT banana bread. :)

SAB there is a great book - The Belly Fat Diet, he actually shows you in an eat this not that format with fast food places.

Today I had pasta with veggies. DH cooked, so sweet, but I have been so good to stay away from regualr pasta, I think I might go on a bender!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been loving this app on my phone too--My fitness pal.  I am back to using it.  I can tell...when I avoid this board and the app on my phone, I am being bad.  Guilt brings me back and feeling good makes me stay.

Thank god the Girl Scout cookies are almost gone. These are my downfall.

Thank you Sagina!  I am a carboholic too...have you tried the Barilla multigrain stuff yet?  It tastes almost "real!"

Corinne that is a great app and it really, really works.  Of course I ran the other way when I saw girl scouts this year Laughing and that makes it easier.

Has anyone tried the Kashi grain mix yet?  I made a veggie pilaf out of it and it was quite good.  Topped it with roasted veggies for dinner.

Corinne you are too funny, but it's true! Me too!

SAB I bought a pasta that was really good, it wan't enriched and had Jerusalem artichoke flour as well.  Not sure on the good for you though...

I also bought two packs of Ezekiel pastas haven't tried them.  The DH reached right past them and got the skinner brand out of the pantry - and admittedly so! lol.

For dinner the family had that old stand-by: Grilled cheese and tomato soup.  I used whole wheat bread, yogurt spread instead of butter and organic tomatoes in the sandwiches but didn't skimp on the sharp cheddar cheese for them.  For me, I sprinkled a little of the cheese over totopos chips instead of eating a sandwich. Served it with organic tomato soup and a nice salad.

I've been too tired to cook anything creative.  My elder DD is coming home from school Sunday to get her wisdom teeth pulled so I guess I'll make some soups and some apple sauce over the next few days.  Trying to think of soft vegetarian foods for her.

Stage 1 found and bought the Dave's Killer Bread. Looking forward to toast in the morning!

Sagina did you try the Ezekial pasta yet?  Let us know how it is!

Went to Costco and was delighted to find so many organic products!  Bought strawberries, blueberries, romaine, applesauce, mac and cheese, olive oil, peanut butter, coffee, juice and chicken breast all organic and all reasonably priced.  Thank you Costco! Also picked up multigrain bread, whole wheat pasta and almonds.  Oh yes, a couple bad things "fell" into the basket but I was pretty pleased overall. Hope everyone is well.

SAB, Costco is really good for buying stable items in bulk. We also used to get a big tub of dried mushrooms there. They give a good flavor in all kinds of things.

Yesterday we had steamed salmon and a side of mushrooms and broccoli. I can recommend it. I sauteed a sliced onion and a couple of garlic cloves, minced, in olive oil. Then I added 3 cubed portobellos and a small container of button mushrooms halved, sauteed that for a bit, then added broccoli florets (frozen ones) and put a lid on till everything was done. Salt and pepper, of course.

It was good and more filling than just a green veggie.

Good morning everyone! I had tuna for breakfast!  I used just a dab and a really small one of low fat mayo and a bunch of mustard, but I like mustard, some pickle, tomato, celery, onion and pepper.  It was good, low carb and high protein.  I think I might be on to something....fish for breakfast? lol.

Sagina, in northern Europe, fish for breakfast used to be a standard thing, English kippers, for example. I also used to work with Asians in restaurants in the US and a standard breakfast was soupy rice with flakes of salted fish on top. But what would brunch be without bagels and lox?

Oh my poor dd had her wisdom teeth out and I have been making soft food all day long.  Smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt, mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs so far.  At least her appetite is good!

For dinner for the rest of us a lowfat, organic frittata (just spinach, peppers and egg whites along with just a bit of cheese) and a green salad.

Pasta night!  Multi grain penne with asparagus, sun dried tomatoes and garlic. Big salad.  We have so many sweet lemons in the yard I've been just squeezing lemon juice on my greens instead of dressing.

SAB, lemon is the best dressing. Here in Greece, it is the standard dressing for just about any food, squeeze of lemon, splash of olive oil. Once you get used to it, it is almost addictive. Greeks also put it on simple boiled veggies of all kinds, and it really makes a difference.

Yesterday I had roasted veggies with a little feta for lunch. The roasted veggies were sweet potatoes, summer squash including the flowers, onions cut in quarters, lots of whole cloves of garlic. it is so simple, but really good. I crumble a bit of feta and scatter it over the top at serving time.

For dinner I had a grilled lamb on a skewer, with steamed greens.

Yum, you are making me hungry, for good food!

Momine, do you eat the cloves of garlic or do they just flavor the food?

Sagina, I eat the garlic. Once it has been roasted, it is soft and mild and tasty. I kept the flowers from the squash back and added them the last ten minutes, so they wouldn't disintegrate completely.

Oh I LOVE roasted garlic, but then I need some good crusty bread to spread it on and there goes my resolve!  Momine you have inspired me--roasted veggies tonight, brown rice and some salmon for DH. I think I have brussel sprouts, cauliflower, onions, and red pepper in the bin.

I am not sure what we are doing for dinner tonight, but we agreed that we wanted to bring out the grill.  Thinking about grilled veggie kabobs and rice--or maybe salmon.  However, I bet that the rest of the family is thinking about hamburgers.  If so, maybe I will have a salmon burger or veggie patty.

Confessions of a not so healthy dinner.....

Went to a restaurant tonight....A texas steakhouse, old, not very modern with the menu....usually I can create a dish......so anyway, steak, chicken, pork, liver, smothered, grilled, fried, you get the nasty picture right - I mean I used to LOVE this food....

I get tired and order fried fish and shrimp with a salad as my side - trying to stay away from potatoes- friends, without the risk of just being gross, my body punished me for eating this dinner....I quickly remember how I never want to feel again......yukie.

I should have stopped with the salad.

I know!  Its is odd how badly your body feels when you eat unhealthy foods?  Now, since we have changed our eating habits, you feel physically bad and guilty on top of it!  Sweets is my downfall though.  I have to get past this.

As expected, the family all had steaks last night and I had a pc of grilled salmon and asparagus.  While they were all belly aching later on in the night about eating too much steak and potato, I felt good.

Tonight we have to go downtown to pick up my running/racing packet for an 8k race that the hubs and I are doing on Sunday.  We will be eating out, so I am leaning towards finding somewhere with a good large summer salad, maybe with shrimp.

I am proud of this one!

I have a terrible addiction to See's Candy.  It's bad.  Yesterday I was busy and out for a long time without eating and had to go to the mall for an errand.  There it was, the wonderful See's Candy store and I was SOOO hungry!

But I forced myself to walk away and over to a grocer where I got ingredients for a yummy green salad and a fruit smoothie to soothe my immediate hunger.  I was really pleased to get away candy-free!!!

Beacon - good for you! We keep encouraging one another - celebrating victories, supporting one another during the tough times.

The thing that is SO frustrating to me is that when you have a little sugar, you just want MORE. So instead of being satisfied with your 'treat,' you are just more dissatisfied than before! Doesn't seem fair.
