Hi, I just joined because I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and am looking for on-line support . The challenge for me to connect with people because I cannot hear and am new to being online. Any others out there who are deaf? I  have started radiation for 6 weeks and am wondering how others have fared with it.

thanks,

Elaine

Hi, Elaine, and welcome to the forum!

I'm so sorry you are going through this, but the women here are awesome, and I've learned WAY more here than I ever did from my doctors.

I am not deaf, but I am wondering if you are HOH or read lips. I think it would be awfully important to have an interpreter with you at your medical appointments to make sure you are getting all the info they throw at you.

I know others will be along to add their comments.

There are many, many areas of this forum where you can ask as many questions as you want, and there will always be answers! It has helped me out so much!

Prayers for you for a smooth journey through your radiation  appointments....

Elaine - You are in good hands here.  I am sorry that you have to reach out with this diagnosis, but this is the place to be!  You don't have to have any special talents with on-line stuff!  You already have the minimum requirements down!  You have your own THREAD!  Nice job.

I am not deaf but I do have hearning damage.  My youngest was born without hearing but did develop the sense adequately around 2 and 3 years old.

So, this most beautiful place on the internet that we lovingly call BCO!  We love you as you are and welcome you with open arms!!

Radiation was tough fo rme.  But I HIGHLY recommend a product called Bag Balm (available at drug stores).  I would start using this goooooy stuff at about 3 weeks in - no later.  You can ask the Radiation Department for the WIDE LONG rolled gauze and they will give it to you everyday.  You will want to fashion a "tank top" to cover the goo so it doesn't wreck everything you own.

Have you checked out other threads that discuss Rads?

I'm adding you to my favorites incase you have more questions :)

    (((((hugs))))
